exlurker··on What's your "coworker didn't lock screen" procedure?
https://fakeupdate.net is a good one: fake windows update screens. Successful head-scratching a few times!
exlurker··on Exploring and having fun with rotary telephones
Similar in Norway. One source of frequent misdiallings were from housewives dusting off the rotary phone, accidentally dialling 111.
exlurker··on Men Arrested for Transcribing a Movie, Posting Details to a Website
Now that you mention it, I remember reading through the entire first script of of Alien from 1976[1], which was really cool. I now feel an urge to re-experience that.

exlurker··on Ask HN: Looking for discussion forums dedicated woodworking
There's one on Lemmy/Beehaw: https://beehaw.org/c/woodworking@lemmy.ca
exlurker··on Become Ungoogleable
I wonder if Michael Jackson would have even more success with his beer guides if he chose a pseudonym. https://www.beerbooks.com/cgi/ps4.cgi?action=enter&thispage=...

Here's what looks like a manual for SCUMM, with examples and all:

exlurker··on Vivaldi integrates Mastodon in its desktop browser
I like Ungoogled Chromium: https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-bina...

At least for testing, I use Firefox as my daily driver.

exlurker··on uBlock Origin becomes top addon on Firefox
I use uBlacklist, and I get a "block this site" option on every Google result. Worth a try, I hope it's legit.
exlurker··on I took a job at Amazon, only to leave after 10 months
Only if you worked for 10 years in the same company. 1 month is the regular for <5 years tenure. However, the employee may actually demand 3 months.
exlurker··on LastPass users warned their master passwords are compromised
This used to be a problem for me too, but later versions of Keepass happily syncs any conflicting databases. I use Syncthing to share my database.
exlurker··on AMP Has Irreparably Damaged Publishers’ Trust in Google-Led Initiatives
Let me push this again: Chrome, sans Google. My main browser is Firefox, but this will do in the few cases I "need" Chrome.

exlurker··on Apps Getting Worse
Foobar 2000 has served me really well for any local audio file.
exlurker··on We Switched to Mattermost
It does support multiple accounts, at least since recently.
exlurker··on Roll your own minilanguages with mini-interpreters (1989)
You might be interested to know that Another World was not Eric Chahi's first game to implement a VM. Infernal Runner (Amstrad CPC, 1985) was recently reverse-engineered to be playable in the browser. Some details and source: https://github.com/cyxx/infernal_js
exlurker··on Preparing your game for deterministic netcode
Novel and inspiring. Thank you!
exlurker··on Demoscene accepted as UNESCO cultural heritage in Germany
Oh, how I envied those PO Boxes you guys got down in Europe - Up north, it was practically impossible to get one of those for non-businesses, and especially a no-go for broke teenagers!
exlurker··on Daft Punk Break Up
Ooh. Thanks for this! RAM is my favourite, and this really appeals to me. May I recommend back; Betamaxx has a wonderful 80s nostalgic sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB5mRTkJmFA
exlurker··on I Hacked into Facebook's Legal Department Admin Panel
ESL = English as Second Language. Had to look it up.
exlurker··on Can developer productivity be measured?
Nice, I call dibs on the low hanging fruits!
exlurker··on When you tell Chrome to wipe private data it spares Google.com and YouTube
No, I haven't. Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping for something that would mimic Safari, as Apple has made things really difficult for non-mac devs.
exlurker··on When you tell Chrome to wipe private data it spares Google.com and YouTube
I also switched years ago and haven't looked back. FF is fast, solid. However, I too keep Chromium for development. But I use the Ungoogled version (I always plug it, but have no stakes in it): https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium

Does anyone know a Webkit browser that runs on Win - preferably with some kind of debugger?

exlurker··on How does a gas pump know to shut itself off? (1981)
Haha, same happened to me in Spain two years ago. I stood there minding my own business like a doof until someone on the other pump were like, "Yo!! Watch out". Wasn't much, but still surprising.
exlurker··on Ask HN: Is there any alternative to Dropbox?
Syncthing https://syncthing.net - I replaced Dropbox with it, no complaints so far.
exlurker··on Microsoft forcing Edge browser webview on Outlook for Android app users
I understand your point of view. I use Firefox exclusively in private. But I need to support Chrome in development, and Ungoogled Chromium is a good alternative for me - it's neither Google nor Microsoft. Most of us do live in capitalist societies, and therefore, I think, we have no other choice than to have to use it's tools to try to improve them.
exlurker··on Microsoft forcing Edge browser webview on Outlook for Android app users
I've found Ungoogled Chromium very satisfying lately. https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium
exlurker··on Degoogle: Cutting Google out of your life
You can !g google in DDG when you need to. I often have to do, and hopefully DDG picks this up and improves their search.
exlurker··on Game Programming Patterns: Event Queue (2014)
Many realtime online games use the same techniques today. For a very understandable walkthrough of the concept, I recommend Gabriel Gambretta's excellent 4 part series: https://gabrielgambetta.com/client-server-game-architecture....
exlurker··on YouTube now have ADs that plays sound without an user interaction
Then use Chromium without goggle: https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium
