exe34··on Dots: Always-on agents
It's a labour saving device. Just like you would use a dish washer to do the tedious work of washing dishes, use a vcr to watch tedious television for you, and an electric monk to believe things for you, you can now use an agent to doomscroll for you.

They just happen to control government. They are not a single actor, but they do want one thing: all the wealth and power.

The rich. But you knew this.

This position is hilarious, because it's the class war is the only thing they want you to avoid thinking about.

exe34··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
LEO isn't much closer to the sun, and the atmosphere probably doesn't absorb a huge amount at the wavelengths they work.
exe34··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
Presumably they get exactly the same amount of sunlight 100% of the time instead of a few hours peak on earth? I'd say 8x is in the right order of magnitude.

Old people are at least 20-30 years older than I am.
exe34··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
configuration.nix is that file for me. I gave up entirely on desktops and panels, and instead use xmonad and dmenu. I've had to adapt to exactly zero change in my ux in ten years. For me, enrichment comes from studying and experimenting, not from adapting every month or two to things that make somebody else feel good about changing.

exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
Is the question "what is a free market"?
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
> to talk about how a digital good has a nominal real cost

So once again, they can't lose imaginary income.

exe34··on Grammarly will send unhinged messages to all your users if you try to cancel
I have a rule, if I hear an advert that I didn't search for on any video site, I say "fuck off <company name>" to ensure I form a negative association with the brand. I've definitely heard "grammarly" far too many times to ever spend a penny on them.

It means everybody else should slow down to let them get ahead.
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
Isn't that the whole point of the free market? Make the total cost/effort for something lower than the alternative, and people will pay for it. I paid for Netflix for ages when they had every show/movie that I wanted to watch, instead of stuff being fragmented across 20 services.

What motives have I claimed?

exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
I'm personally happy to pay to watch without adverts. I'm not willing to pay for adverts. If they only sell it with adverts, then I'm never going to pay for it. Whether or not I watch it, they don't lose a dime.
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
No they can't be deprived of imaginary revenue.
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
What are they being deprived of when somebody who was never going to pay makes a copy?
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
In what world is everyone able or willing to pirate? I think your ad-absurdum is just absurd here.
exe34··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
The quoted text is identical to what I have received in an email from Disney+. I only tend to get a month at a time when I want to watch a given show, but if paying doesn't remove adverts, I'm not going to pay.

This sounds like you have only had a superficial contact with LLMs. They do a lot of mechanical work, but "a bit of prompting" is not how they are used for something like this.
