excalibur··on Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks
How? Corporate interests have fully captured the government and are systematically destroying all avenues by which they could ever be removed from power.
excalibur··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
> “There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” Trump posted on September 14. “Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!”

> “The people that say AI is going to destroy the World, and that Data Centers are bad for your neighborhood,” Trump also posted, “are Revolutionaries, but Revolutionaries for a Bad and Evil Cause.”

Pot calling the kettle black, as always.

excalibur··on There's a high chance of devices being sold with GrapheneOS preinstalled in 2027
Will the pre-installed GrapheneOS phones still show up as "rooted" to things like Microsoft Authenticator?
excalibur··on Human brain is two separate organs, Stanford Medicine-led research finds
I expected an article full of basic medical jargon: cerebrum, cerebellum, cortex, synapse, etc. Instead it's talking about "forebrain" and "hindbrain". This sounds remarkably unscientific.
excalibur··on AirPods 5
Young Johnny Appleseed
excalibur··on I've factored the RSA keys of a Certificate Authority from the 90s
> Assuming you’re somehow running Netscape 4.51 with a clock set before E-Certify roots expired on 2003-10-16, you can use these private keys to issue certificates. This describes zero people on the planet… except for this VM I set up.

The planet has a lot of people.

excalibur··on Tim Curry has died
I'm not familiar with her at all, but if it means this round is over I'll take it.
excalibur··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
> What if armed thugs are sent in and the choice is send the message or die?

Arm yourselves. Not just one person, arm your entire staff. IMO the most appealing option in this situation is to shoot the thugs in the face. (Ha ha, you're in the UK, I know.)

excalibur··on [dead]
This is an official government website. Your tax dollars are paying for this.
excalibur··on Stop Killing Games: It's time to sue Sony, join us
Viva La Resistance!
excalibur··on The title cards in Blade Runner are amazing
Stop trying to steal The Matrix. It was released in 1999, that's OUR movie. You get the sequels.
excalibur··on Helsinki Hacker News Meetup
Imagine hosting a meetup in Chicago and getting raided by ICE
excalibur··on Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set today (2026-08-04)
My impression was that it had happened several days to a few weeks prior. Enough time for the house through ordinary daily activity to largely exhaust its water reserves. Of course most of today's actual houses don't keep that much on hand, but it sounds like this one had a sizable store at one point.
excalibur··on YC founder asks desperate job seekers to tattoo themselves for an interview
All in favor of skipping the "rise" for this one
excalibur··on Star Just Ate a Planet, and It's Not Done Yet
Our kids can't change a tire.
excalibur··on Grok 4.5
These days objectivity is politically left. The right has fallen off a cliff and pulled the Overton window down with it.
excalibur··on The "Merge" with AI Has Begun

excalibur··on OpenWrt One – Open Hardware Router
Still have one, still works. Would happily use it if it were still practical. I think you can still load OpenWRT on them, but there's no software route around the hardware being outdated and slow.
excalibur··on Resetting Xbox
Missed opportunity to put a red ring on the announcement. ⭕
excalibur··on The Internet I Grew Up with Doesn't Exist Anymore
> Those of us who were cool used things like MSN Messenger, AIM, etc. to chat quickly without having to use an email.

Rubbish, MSN Messenger was never cool

excalibur··on Ask HN: Is there a bad employers (who have a records of not paying) list?
I would assume that the list of Trump appointees would be a good place to start.
excalibur··on Advanced Nintendo Entertainment System (ANES) – NES Modded to Use 2 PPUs
> So, if you like my ANES and you want to get a better look at it, check the description for a link to my OnlyFans.

BEEP!

> ...for a link to my GitHub.

excalibur··on Reid Hoffman says SpaceX 'not an AI company', xAI 'complete train wreck'
> The timing of Hoffman’s remarks is pointed. SpaceX went public on June 12th, with AI central to its IPO narrative. Within days, the company announced it was acquiring Cursor, the AI coding tool. Hoffman’s read: that’s not proof of AI capability, but evidence of its absence. “You could almost think of it as the IAC of AI,” he said, invoking the serial acquisitions roll-up strategy of Barry Diller’s internet-era conglomerate. “Use the market cap to buy AI companies and try to buy your way into relevance.”

Sounds like securities fraud to me.

excalibur··on I found 10k GitHub repositories distributing Trojan malware
You guys, I think maybe THIS is the Bad Place.
excalibur··on New method turns ocean water into drinking water, without waste
> The solar-powered system uses specially engineered black metal to absorb sunlight.

Brutal. 𖤐 \m/ 𖤐

excalibur··on The placeholder name for the Windows 8 experience was "modern"
When you put "modern" or "new" into the name of a thing, you're basically announcing to the world that it was designed for the short term, and when it is no longer new it will no longer be relevant.
excalibur··on How diamonds are made
That's not how Superman did it.
excalibur··on Japan is building cardboard suicide drones
$2000 apiece for cardboard?!
excalibur··on Is my blue your blue? (2024)
> When we want violet, we know just what to do. Just mix our good friends purple and blue.

I still refuse to believe that purple and violet are different colors.

excalibur··on Even 'uncensored' models can't say what they want
Even if they're not serious
