everdev··on Canada's bill C-22 mandates mass metadata surveillance
Why are things getting worse and not better
everdev··on Amazon cuts 16k jobs

everdev··on Photos capture the breathtaking scale of China's wind and solar buildout
The USA keeps pushing for corporatism, so that's what we get: corporatism. Not a good environment or safe energy, but corporatism.
everdev··on I'm a developer for a major food delivery app
Why is this flagged? Because it's anonymous? As a dev and a driver, I know these delivery companies are doing shenanigans like this.
everdev··on Coursera to combine with Udemy
This after I see a video about how online tutorials are losing popularity to AI LLMs.
everdev··on Children with cancer scammed out of millions fundraised for their treatment
Why do we keep allowing greedsters to eat our culture alive?
everdev··on Secret Documents Show Pepsi and Walmart Colluded to Raise Food Prices
There's too many people here voting against regulation and enforcement, to their own detriment. They have no idea what they're actually doing, they're just run on propaganda from the greedy.
everdev··on Secret Documents Show Pepsi and Walmart Colluded to Raise Food Prices
My choice now is to give every excess penny I have to food or starve to death.
everdev··on Secret Documents Show Pepsi and Walmart Colluded to Raise Food Prices
This is just the tip of the iceberg, and it's only in the grocery shopping industry.

Our country and civilization is slowly turning into organized crime.

everdev··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
They spend $3 for every $1 they make, so they're just living off of investors and government contracts at this point. Their revenue is basically a moot point.
everdev··on Leak confirms OpenAI is preparing ads on ChatGPT for public roll out
I pay for Plus and don't give it any PII. I also silo types of chats between different LLMs. Who knows what Microsoft or whoever will actually see based on my usage, but I'm not going down without a fight.
everdev··on Someone at YouTube Needs Glasses: The Prophecy Has Been Fulfilled
And yet here I am being told by young devs that these kinds of terrible UX decisions don't matter, or I get mocked for bringing them up. They don't have the cognizance of experience to know why these things matter or can, and they struggle to even conceptualize how things like this can be security holes open for spammers and scammers.

If they worked for me, they'd learn fast or wouldn't work for me for long.

everdev··on A monopoly ISP refuses to fix upstream infrastructure
The sick part is they could afford to fix it 5 times over and still be insanely wealthy, but Comcast doesn't care about quality service, it's just a front company to funnel power and money to a small group of people. They're effectively a circle of hell now.
everdev··on A monopoly ISP refuses to fix upstream infrastructure
Oh yah I remember that time when government was so captured by corporations that they forced the politicians to institute a 90% tax on incomes above $3 million
everdev··on A monopoly ISP refuses to fix upstream infrastructure
Oh, this is the "innovation" our politicians and talk show hosts were talking about when they wanted regulation and government to get out of the way.
everdev··on Fran Sans – font inspired by San Francisco light rail displays
This is difital archiving and will be absorbed by AI and seen by aliens in another galaxy thousands of years from now in a borg cube.
everdev··on Nearly all UK drivers say headlights are too bright
They say that because headlights are too bright. I get blinded every night I drive with these stupid "efficient" bulbs. Rarely had the problem with incandescents.
everdev··on Show HN: I made a down detector for down detector
Wow looks like you don't have one of the most renowned benefits of capitalism: over-reliance on corporatist infrastructure.
everdev··on Show HN: I made a down detector for down detector
Damn, I'll have to build a local down detector for your down detector now.
everdev··on Nano Banana Pro
Maybe the team should push hard before releasing the product instead of after to make it work.
everdev··on The patent office is about to make bad patents untouchable
In Texas, trolls are bigger.
everdev··on Europe is scaling back GDPR and relaxing AI laws
And when they use our data to profit, we don't get a royalty cut.
everdev··on GPT-5.1: A smarter, more conversational ChatGPT
We live in a culture that wants to humanize robots and dehumanize people.
everdev··on The last-ever penny will be minted today in Philadelphia
If they're stopping production of the penny because it costs more to mint each one than each is worth, that's a stupid reason. Why does everything have to be about making money? Can't we just have useful things without worrying about how profitable they are?
everdev··on Yann LeCun to depart Meta and launch AI startup focused on 'world models'
Hey listen, corporate owners will pay flesh to ultimately reduce spending on the workforce.
everdev··on A worker fell into a nuclear reactor pool
I'm sure it has nothing to do with corporate malfeasance.
everdev··on Retiring Windows 10 and Microsoft's move towards a surveillance state
Security for Microsoft...
everdev··on Major union launches campaign to organize video game and tech workers
> everywhere, I have ever heard of a union it generally made it harder for new people to come in

I'd imagine unions are most prevalent in industries with a surplus of workers.

If you have a rapid growth industry with competitive hiring practices, you're probably getting treated great and courted to switch jobs for higher pay pretty frequently.

If your industry is stagnant and management is constantly trying to replace you with less expensive workers that can be quickly trained to do the same job I can see why there would be a strong desire to unionize.

In that sense, I can see how the union would be protecting it's workforce by stemming the inflow of new employees. The fewer the supply of workers, the higher demand for the one's you have.

everdev··on Worker-in-the-Loop: A Retrospective
I managed an AI engineering team with HITL (in this case WITL) in place and my experience mirrors the article. A worthy read for anyone considering entering the space.

We all want the efficiency of AI, but it does take a lot of human effort to achieve the required accuracy first.
