The default behavior of Notepad++ is a very real security risk. So many system admins and developers will throw passwords and API keys into there and just forget about it. The scratch files are all sitting there unencrypted and with easy to exploit permissions.
Alas, my first thought after seeing TextAdept was that it could serve as a more secure alternative to Notepad++.
It also reminded me of all the multiple times I tried to warn InfoSec "risk managers" about the danger of malvertizing and how it could be used to track company employees. Why wouldn't those techniques be used to gather intelligence for surveillance operations? Especially with so many security professionals ignoring the risk.
No matter who you are, immigrant or billionaire oligarch, you will be tracked if you fail to take basic actions with your online hygiene.
Use it as an opportunity to promote the "Ubuntu Core" architecture (i.e., "immutable" Ubuntu) just like Microsoft did with Windows "S" editions.
Best we can hope for is Microsoft dogfoods the feature first.
Is that assembly really in the US? Asking because the woman in the first shot appeared to have Chinese letters on the left side of her uniform.
The judging an optimal balance between organization and descriptive naming is a hassle that makes me allergic to information hierarchies. I have to decide if it was the right level of abstraction, if the inclusion of details should be done consistiently or as a one-off, evaluate the tradeoff between copying vs. moving data across parts of the hierarchy, etc. Tag-based approaches for filesystem and note management have been very attractive to me and I'm glad to see Heaper extends this even further with the "block" concept.
Self-hosting, synchronization, and support for Restic are also great bonuses.
There are three reasons why I'd get this:
1. The trade-in value on the Pixel 7 is depreciating with time. Upgrading today should save more money vs. upgrading down the road.
2. It's on-par with Pixel 7 and significantly less expensive than the standard Pixel 10.
3. My goal is to replace the Pixel 7 with something that has USB-C display output so I can finally use my AR glasses with my phone.
All of these points are my initial impressions of the phone. Hopefully they turn out to be true of anyone who decides to go this route.
Here’s a comparison between the Pixel 10a and the Pixel 7: https://store.google.com/us/magazine/compare_pixel?hl=en-US&...
The one thing that wasn’t clear from the comparison was if USB display output is supported on the Pixel 10a. If it is, then I’m sold.
