evan_··on Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude
not once did I ever understand what the difference was between Claude Chat and Claude Cowork. I use both and I mostly just guessed when to use Cowork.

JerryRigEverything will deploy his hardness pick test in short order I'm sure.
evan_··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
If you think a Nathan Fielder project is going to rehabilitate someone's image then you don't know who Nathan Fielder is.

evan_··on Texas Data Center Map: See where data centers are operating or planned
I predict "data centers" are going to start being built but they'll say it's a distribution warehouse for motorcycle parts or a factory or something. There'll be a token amount of floor space set aside to manufacture pen cartridges but then there'll just be an incidental 200000 sq ft of server racks.

Actually I'm sure they're already doing that.

evan_··on Show HN: Git-knife – Edit commit messages, authors, and dates like a spreadsheet
If the AI (or the person) ran into a non-obvious constraint, or some externality, or there’s a plan that just isn’t implemented yet- then the comment wouldn’t be able to be divined by the AI. But yeah just pointing the AI at something and saying “write me docs” will get you something at best equally good as what’s going to be available.
evan_··on Show HN: Git-knife – Edit commit messages, authors, and dates like a spreadsheet
I’ve left so many PR reviews in the last few months that are essentially “this looks good but delete 80% of the comments.”
evan_··on You might want to build your WebApp in Canvas instead of HTML
Ah, so literally a word.

I was thinking you could probably get a fair bit of accessibility by using <div>s for your text rendering- or by maintaining a separate, hidden outline of DOM elements mirroring what’s on screen.

evan_··on 'Crush this lady': how eBay harassment campaign led to $56M payout
It does seem like they were treating it as a team-building exercise almost. Which just makes me wonder because my first impulse would have been to go to an escape room or ropes course or something like that.
evan_··on 'Crush this lady': how eBay harassment campaign led to $56M payout
Why should anyone who's not a Klingon care about "honor"?

evan_··on 'Crush this lady': how eBay harassment campaign led to $56M payout
I assume this has been investigated but it's difficult to believe this stopped at one pair of critics. There are plenty of people online critical of eBay. Were they running similar campaigns on anyone else?

> Seven members of eBay’s security team, including former police captains, “worked together to harass and intimidate the Steiners”, according to prosecutors.

I hope someone's looking into the careers of the "former police captains" here. Again, difficult to believe they just woke up one day and decided to fly cross-country to vandalize someone's house with no prior history of intimidation.

evan_··on US DOT deleting bike lane references
if a government spokesperson provided that statement 20 years ago the story would be about the unhinged partisan DOT spokesperson, what maniac hired them, why hasn't the whole office been fired yet, and how a bizarre grievance-based policy ever got out the door in the first place. Now the media gets crazier stuff than this on an hourly basis and they just shrug.

evan_··on Mexican government unveils a prototype for a new homegrown, ultra-affordable EV
> They obviously won’t face pushback entering the US from a legal standpoint

I suspect the current federal government might push back on a Mexican EV just for ideological reasons.

evan_··on U.S. pulling ocean sensors a 'shock' for Canadian research as El Niño nears
Aren't you in any way concerned that you can't give a real example of the sort of thing you're talking about, and have to make one up? This should be the wake-up call that makes you re-evaluate your priors.

The reality is that reactionaries often describe "useless" scientific endeavors like "condoms for worms" that end up being the only thing stopping parasitic screwworms from infesting the US cattle herd, which will end up costing us hundreds of millions of dollars to resolve- and spike the already-high cost of beef for decades.

evan_··on Large etchings of numbers signaling opposition to Trump appear on National Mall
I'm impressed at how precise the construction of each numeral is for something that must have been done by hand, covertly, without much equipment- probably at night. By my estimate each numeral is at least 100' wide and 140' tall.
