Notepad++ is different.
39 - Silicon Valley salary, comfortable savings, six digits kids college account. Fun job, lots of respect for OSS contributions, great food, biking, fitness, luxury car. On top of that - coming home every day to kids who agree to play any online game I want! Main source of anxiety - aging parents living in a far-away country...
The only thing that would happen had they allocated more visas - more people would be brought. You will still be stuck.
Pretty sure, it would be hard for Disney to justify bringing H1s while firing locals. It is much easier for stuffing firms to justify that and then supply to Disney.
Consulting companies charge fereign workers for visa processing (they disguise the charges as training and such) - which is illegal, keep people on L1 visas without applying for Green Cards (so the employee cannot find a US job without the contractor). And Google et al seem to be perfectly fine with that.
I would very much prefer games to use Metal on macOS (Starcraft2 is much smoother on the same hardware)
Warcraft (one) was a Dune2 clone with crappy pathfinding. But they did add ability to give orders to multiple units at once!
The industrial design showcased in this article is nice. But the reality was that most “nice things” were replicas, authorized or otherwise, of the things developed in the first world. I remember in 1980s looking throw the mail catalogues people brought from abroad and being amazed on how many nice things there were in the world. Obviously, I was mostly interested in the toys section back then - but those toys were decades ahead of what we had in USSR.
Destiny2 gets a lot of hate, I don’t understand why. It is super-polished, level design is stellar (I love Nessus with the broken down Exodus One, mission on the Almighty was also really good).
Assist is "optimized" for 20mph and is capped at like 28 - I believe this is due to European laws. I have yet to breach 24 mph even with a full assist on a straight road.
I don't think you can expect high percentage from people that are not obsessed with cycling - and those already use regular bike. E.g. I need to be home early 2 days/week to drive my kids to classes, sometimes I need to go to grocery store after the work, on some days there's dentist, weather, etc. So the drop in the usage is expected.
