etchalon··on Dots: Always-on agents
At some point a designer is going to come up with a visualization for an agent that isn't "amorphous character blob".
etchalon··on FTC chair suggests AI developers should be liable for conduct of agents
Yes. Duh.
etchalon··on Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos
lol no it's not.

I asked it to make a site for my TI4 reference project: https://axiomvortix.com

It produced a video about an AI startup with the vague goal of centralizing data.

etchalon··on Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error
Your argument is essentially that the Executive can ignore the Judicial branch, and the process of law, if they say they have a good reason.
etchalon··on Unknown number of Texas voter registrations went unprocessed due to DPS error
It'll be the least shocking thing ever to find out this "error" disproportionately affected Democratic leaning districts.
etchalon··on Americans' Drinking Remains at Record Low: Gallup Poll
Cocktails, on average, are like $15.

What did the industry expect?

etchalon··on I built the fastest PHP webserver in the world
I haven't used PHP as a daily workhorse in a decade, so I guess I don't understand why I would want a web server in pure PHP? Nginx exists.
etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
We didn't accidentally blow something up.

Our military murdered 170 children due to incompetence.

I am aware of Iran's activities. Everyone is. The regime is murderous, and hostile to our allies in the region.

And absolutely nothing we are doing, right now, has changed or will change that.

etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
At no point have I said Iran is a good country doing good things.

I have no control of, or say, in how Iran operates.

I am a US Citizen who votes in the US and who is concerned with the actions my government takes on my behalf.

If Iran shouldn't "need an agreement" not to build nuclear weapons, what exactly is our current aggression seeking to accomplish? How does it end? How do we know its over?

When there is no longer a single person in Iran?

etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
It was admitted incompetence in target selection, potentially due to misuse of AI, acting on out of date intelligence.

This has been heavily reported on and no counter-story has been proffered.

You introduced a whataboutalism. I pointed out whataboutalisms are ridiculous when it comes to dead children.

The frustrating part of all of this is we had a working agreement with Iran, with numerous mechanisms to ensure compliance, that was torn up because this administration, without any offered evidence, said Iran wasn't in compliance. And this was despite multiple international partners disagreeing and saying they were absolutely complying.

etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
We didn't just do it by "accident". We did it through incompetence. This wasn't the unfortunate result of a necessary attack on a valid target. This was the result of stupidity.

"Hey, we're not as bad a literal terrorist regime!" is not a metric by which I think we should measure our own country.

I'd believe we'd actually accomplished our goal of stopping their nuclear program if this specific administration hadn't told us, before this attack, we had successfully stopped their nuclear program with a previous attack. Once you've lied to me once, my standard of evidence is a great deal higher than "trust us, bro." and this administration has already shown incompetence at judging the effectiveness of their attacks (or shown a willingness to lie to us about it).

The entire problem with this strategy, from day one, was the completely ahistorical belief that we could punish a country into behaving exactly as we want, in a way that specifically aligns with our interests.

Bullying nations has a tendency to harden them against cooperation and negotiation, as we've seen with Iran.

etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
So your argument is its cool that we killed children because they've also killed children? Hell of a take.

The evidence we bombed their nuclear facilities is essentially this administration telling us we bombed their nuclear facilities.

This administration does not have a track record of providing the public with honest assessments of their success.

If we've successfully stopped them from developing a nuclear weapon, which was stated as the point of our preemptive aggression, I'd need a very good reason why we continue to spend billions attacking them.

etchalon··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
There's zero evidence its less possible, including counter evidence it remains possible because we keep being told we have to attack Iran to prevent them from attaining a nuclear weapon.

So apparently, we've yet to do anything to prevent them from doing it.

We've just killed children.

etchalon··on Rock band Muse lose social media handles to Meta’s new AI tool
Just the absolute worst company always doing the worst things.
etchalon··on iPhone Duo
The Surface Duo was a great idea with mediocre software and essentially no developer support.

The curse of doing anything interesting with Android.

etchalon··on iPhone Duo
Developers will design apps for Apple's foldables.
etchalon··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
It's almost like, and hear me out, Tesla's internal diagnostics might have been manipulated.
etchalon··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
Scam or not, "Robot kills human" was always going to be news.
etchalon··on No constitutional right to clean water, federal court finds
Turns out, if the government does it, no.
etchalon··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
I mean, plenty of men have done the same thing. No imagination required.
etchalon··on GOP issues stark warning to AI companies
Weird how, in our representative republic, one of our major parties has decided a better strategy than listening to the public is to demand money and assistance from companies less those companies be forced to stop doing things the public would rather those companies not do.
etchalon··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
I wonder if it's less projection than permission.

They believe that all government is corrupt and thus they're not doing anything wrong by being openly corrupt.

etchalon··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
It's just hilarious the degree to which people see a thing happen sometimes and begin to believe, despite not just evidence but plenty of counterfactuals, that it's happening every time.
etchalon··on Nebula Sans
There are so very, very many things you're missing here.
etchalon··on Nebula Sans
"Why bother doing something original when there's something generic that's good enough" is certainly one way to approach things.
etchalon··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
Macs have a smaller marketshare for Business than Windows machines, but iPhones are ubiquitous in enterprise.
etchalon··on Show HN: Screen memory without screenshots, just text to Markdown
I experimented with this exact same approach earlier this year.

It's barely sufficient, because, bluntly, most apps just aren't wired up right.

So you end up having to hand code a lot of specific profiles for specific apps to make this work well, and even then, you don't quite get the right level of detail to make it work out.

Will try this app, to see if it improved on my own approach, but man, the hope levels are low.

etchalon··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
I look forward to hearing how we have to let more children starve so Trump can build more ugly monuments and we can drop more bombs on school girls in foreign lands.
etchalon··on The Amazon tax
If you know the exact product you want, Amazon is great.

If you don't, it's absolutely horrible.

etchalon··on Meta faces 'astronomical' consequences as legal fight reaches critical moment
