erokar··on Empathy for Dummies
The premise of this piece and the way it's written gives me the feeling this applies to neurodivergent people on the autism spectrum, not dummies in general.
erokar··on Men, Where Have You Gone? Please Come Back
> but rather because so many things in our culture and society has been subtly altered to benefit women more and more over several decades to the point that men feel like getting into a relationship, or just investing in a woman at all, is a great way of getting screwed over

I'm a man, and I don't have this experience. Your comment makes me curious — what has changed and in what way to make it more likely that men will be screwed over by women? Is it that women are more likely to reject/leave a man once he has invested, or are you thinking about something else entirely?

erokar··on React 19
Practically every frontend framework uses components. The problem with React is that so many of its abstractions are leaky and forces a lot of accidental complexity on the developer.
erokar··on Borgo Programming Language
The nerve, creating a new language when you have already discovered Clojure!
erokar··on The coming long-run slowdown in corporate profit growth and stock returns [pdf] (2023)
Yes, the S&P500 could in a sense be said to implement a momentum based trading strategy.
erokar··on Kotlin for data analysis
I agree. I want to avoid the JVM. Also some functional features in Kotlin like immutable data structures are shallow and can be circumvented.

Also, practically it's only really viable to use IntelliJ as editor, since the language server in e.g. VS Code is pretty bad.

erokar··on The Forgiver's Dilemma: Can Letting Go Set You Free?
I was mainly thinking about pop psychology advice from the last ten years or so. But you have a good point.
erokar··on The Forgiver's Dilemma: Can Letting Go Set You Free?
I think it can set your free, but I don't think it's a necessity. I think it's totally possible to move on and process something without forgiving.

There's currently a cultural pressure to forgive, as if that's the only option. That makes things more difficult for those who are not able to forgive. There is no right way to process a wrong.

erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
Ah I see, the common whataboutism combined with a little bit of antisemitism accusations. Good one.
erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
> Well not like all others, this one has Jews in it, so it gets extra attention.

What's that supposed to mean?

erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
Read the law professor's interpretation.
erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
> They have an interest in this conflict that is not the same as Israel's.

You are quite right, Israel's interest is to kill and displace the Palestinians, crush them as a people. Very few human right groups would have an interest that aligns with that.

erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
Compare it to the Russia/Ukraine war. Not even close.

In any case Israel is not conducting a war, they are conducting a massacre.

erokar··on Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war
The ICJ did say that South Africa's accusation of genocide was plausible, which is also the reason they decided to proceed with the case.

This is what a professor of international law has to say about the case: https://www.ejiltalk.org/speaking-the-law-plausibly-the-inte...

And if over 30,000 dead Palestinians so far isn't enough for you, the intent is the central issue of genocide, though the Palestinian casualties will undoubtably rise.

erokar··on 'Cozy' relationship between Boeing and U.S. draws scrutiny amid 737 MAX 9 mess
Part of the answer could be that Airbus is European and regulated by different authorities.
erokar··on Ask HN: Should I medicate my ADHD?
Yet most will intuitively and immediately grasp its meaning.
erokar··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
> It's because Israelis truly feel, to their core, that Hamas has proven themselves to be an enemy that must be destroyed, otherwise Israelis are just never going to be safe again.

Has there been public debate in Israel wheter:

1. It is realistic to eradicate Hamas. 2. To what extent Israel's operation will sow new hate and resistance among the Palestinians, so that the risk of future attacks increases, whether that be by Hamas or any other resistance group.

erokar··on The pro-Israel information war
Might it be because the whole world is actually concerned about the massacre Isreal is now committing on the Palestinian people?
erokar··on Do Unforgettable Work
Why though.
erokar··on Netscape and Sun announce JavaScript (1995)
... and we could all be writing Java applets today.
erokar··on 100 Days of SwiftUI
It's a mood tracking app. Saturated market, but it was a good first app for me because it's fairly simple.
erokar··on 100 Days of SwiftUI
It's a good course, I went through it and soon after had an app published in the App store. (I assume it's still not updated with the improvements that came to SwiftUI with iOS 17, but not 100% about that.)
erokar··on Ask HN: As a developer, do you consider the carbon footprint of your apps?
It doesn't cross my mind.
erokar··on The Diaries of Franz Kafka
"Kafka was known to laugh uncontrollably when reading his work aloud to friends"

erokar··on The Never Married, a New Normal
Certainly, many married people feel lonely and irritated too.
erokar··on I don't have ADHD, but three private clinics say I do, and offered me medication
Almost anybody, ADHD diagnosis or not, will feel and perform better on low dose amphetamine like Adderall. It's not surprising there's a demand for it — and actors who know how to profit from it.
erokar··on OpenAI tech gives Microsoft's Bing a boost in search battle with Google
Edge runs on Mac too, with the chat stuff, same as on Windows.
erokar··on Migrating from Vue 2 to Svelte
SvelteKit (a meta framework) is still not at 1.0, but Svelte itself is at 3.53 and mature and stable. We've used it production for several apps (moving from React). It's been a joy to work with.
erokar··on Ask HN: Why do HN feel so negatively about Musk?
I started to dislike him after "the pedofile tweet". That kind of behaviour points to dark narcissistic personality traits.

Apart from that, where to start? He has pressured his employees to work under the risk of contracting covid in the early phases of the pandemic, and now as the latest thing he comes off as a Russia apologist, if not outright sympathiser of their war against Ukraine. Musk has an uncanny ability to fall lower with regards to moral standards when you didn't think it possible.

erokar··on Life after Heroku: What's a dev to do?
They mention their personal projects in the article.
