erodingvar··on Microsoft's new foldable keyboard
Or maybe you need to be more productive. Or maybe "a life" isn't the same for everyone.
erodingvar··on Microsoft's new foldable keyboard
I use a Microsoft keyboard at the desktop, because it's curved. For tablet, I cannot go back to flat like this. I use the Goldtouch Go!2, which is foldable and curved, and the Twiddler, which is handheld.
erodingvar··on Tunneling Internet traffic over FB chat
This is the kind of hacking I find to be abusive. Finding clever uses for things is fine, but not when it's misuse with potential for harm. This reminds me of when someone exploited TinyURL to make TinyDisk.
erodingvar··on Reasons not to use Facebook
> if you talk about your friends in Facebook, you're ratting on them

This statement reveals the paranoid perspective behind this publication.

While there are many valid reasons why some people may not want to use Facebook, I think it's as interesting to wonder reasons why people would be so opposed to everyone using it.

I think had Stallman been less weird, he may feel differently about Facebook. For someone like him, any personal details visible to others is likely to result in harm to him.

When you don't fit, everything hurts, and it's easy to feel like all those institutions are evil. But that's just you Richard. For most people, Facebook isn't much of a threat.

erodingvar··on Your Most Important Skill: Empathy
> I only dream of being that good.

You mean, that _bad_.

erodingvar··on Your Most Important Skill: Empathy
> the best way to get things from others is to understand where they stand emotionally and to show reciprocation and support, i.e. empathy.

This is the dangerous line this article is suggestive toward: empathy as a tool for manipulative gain.

I wonder if someone truly naturally capable of understanding differing perspectives would even write such an article. It sounds more like a robot discovering a trick they can utilize to score points.

I think empathy is a sense. When I read some people talking about it in this way, it feels like deaf people thinking they're able to hear music because they found a trick of feeling the speaker's bass.
