I hate how some sites now (including NASA's) make finding the article text a mystery in its own right.

Actually his real worry is the lack of any kind of oversight and regulation - that the inmates are allowed to police themselves.

erickhill··on Tim Curry has died
I know most folks think of other films, but his performance in Ridley Scott's Legend as the grumble-cackling lust driven red-faced demon is a core memory for me. Grew up watching and admiring that film and especially Mr. Curry's portrayal of that character so many times. Because of him.

I smell Amiga, especially if it is "designed to run Workbench."
erickhill··on Casio F-B100W-1A
Only available via that link in the UK or Ireland for £55.00. Quick jump over to Ebay US? $189.62 (And FedEx will have a word after they deliver it.)

US, for now, can keep getting the unconnected F91W $25 lookalike. IIRC, the F-91W has a really small strap. Almost a "ladies watch" size.

Vibration is precisely what made me sell my brand new (sold out) Pebble watch. No matter the firmware or options (un)chosen, it would randomly vibrate at odd times of the day. Couldn't stand the constant distractions.

Casio G-Shock GW-M5610U back on my wrist where it belongs.

erickhill··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
It does a pretty good job. But to be honest I don't use that feature often. I also have the keyboard for it but don't use that often, either. I really mainly use it as a notebook.
erickhill··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
This is why I use a reMarkable tablet for my notes. I noticed a few years ago that when I wrote down my notes I actually remembered them more easily. Something about the hand/brain connection helped etch my thoughts more deeply.

I still use Apple Notes, but more as a place to store copy/paste info I want to save or checklists. But for meeting or game design notes? Writing those down 100%.

UI drag/drop is a little clunky at times, but I love the overall vibe. Doesn’t really feel like a daily game, though. Feels more like it is being shoehorned into that model rather than just being a solo Game Game (like Tetris).

What I mean is as a player, I'll likely not notice the difference in a Friday puzzle vs a Thursday puzzle. And I can replay to my hearts content anyway. So why not simply randomize the board on each replay? Which I'd do anyway.

I'll be trying this out on my 500Mhz Powerbook Pismo running 9.2 tonight!
erickhill··on Commodore Releases Flip Phone
There are several phones that fit the description, but I was thinking specifically of the Sonim XP3plus 5G.
erickhill··on Commodore Releases Flip Phone
The skepticism isn't around the concept (for some) - it's the bonkers $500 price tag when you can go get a 5G military grade waterproof flip phone with a very robust removable battery and much more impressive tech/stats for $200.
erickhill··on Commodore Releases Flip Phone
My wife and I got a flip phone for our daughter when she was in elementary school. It was inexpensive, allowed her to text us when on the school bus - gave us the connection we all needed. About a year later the pull of a phone that could run Spotify won, but for that year the flip phone really was great. And cheap.

I'm not familiar with the OS on this phone, but it sounds interesting.

But $500? Really? DOA

erickhill··on Commodore Releases Flip Phone
Did this story really get flagged by some anti-Commodore Gen-Xer? Can't we bury the hatchet with Atarians by now? Lord have mercy.
erickhill··on Rich Sutton on AI creativity and discovery
(For others like me who need to look it up.)

Stochastic: describes a process, model, or system that involves inherent randomness, meaning its future states or outcomes cannot be predicted with absolute certainty but can be described using probability distributions.

Quite possibly one of the most lackluster WWDC's I can remember. And I've been a fan of Apple/Mac since the late 80s.

Hmph.

That said, I'm THRILLED they claimed to "fix" the border radius snafu of Tahoe. Go ahead and push that now with the next Security fix. We won't mind at all.

erickhill··on U.S. to dismantle system tracking Atlantic currents that are at risk of collapse
Wouldn't take very many at all, we've now learned these past four years (and even the past 2 months). All you need are drones, that are pennies on the dollar cheaper than trillion-dollar militaries. Depending on the munition, a single bomb we drop on Iran could cost between $40,000 and a couple million dollars. Think of all the high-end drones you could buy instead.

Everything is changing. Including our influence.

erickhill··on Jef Raskin, the Visionary Behind the Mac (2013)
Sometimes these interviews are done via a single email filled with questions and are not performed in-person, so the answer of a question isn't always carried forward into future questions, which can seem awkward from afar.
