ericcumbee··on Starbucks in Korea asks customers to stop bringing in printers/desktop computers
I work from a coffee shop a good bit. They don’t care for the most part. Assuming you tip reasonably, be nice to the staff, don’t be annoying, don’t negatively impact the other customers, be helpful when the occasion calls for it.

ericcumbee··on SpaceX may have solved one problem, only to find more on latest Starship flight
Its hot staging. they even refer on the stream to MECO as most engine cut off.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX may have solved one problem, only to find more on latest Starship flight
when the article starts with "Musk’s impotent attempts to get his giant shiny phallus to work are the perfect metaphor for the man."

I have a hard time taking the rest of the article as a reasoned technical analysis.

ericcumbee··on My quest to make motorcycle riding that tad bit safer
I feel like I see more motorcycles doing stupid things on the roadway than I used to.
ericcumbee··on NASA to launch space observatory that will map 450M galaxies
Dragon lacks a Remote Manipulator System (Robot Arm) and a airlock. things that make servicing objects in space a lot easier. Im sure somewhere at NASA or SpaceX there is rough set of specs on what a shuttle like starship would look like complete with payload bay, robot arm, and eva airlock.
ericcumbee··on Sam Bankman-Fried thrown into solitary over Tucker Carlson interview: report
you don't have to be particularly well connected in prison to get access to a phone. Just knowing who to talk to and being able to give them something they want. phones are right up there with drugs and tobacco being smuggled into prisons.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX launches Starship on 8th test flight, tries to catch returning booster [video]
Good catch for booster, ship lost attitude control

watching the press conference and Onsite power production were mentioned. I assume this means SMRs and solar.
ericcumbee··on Lenovo has removed the TrackPoint nub from new ThinkPad laptops
I Just bought a Thinkpad P1 series laptop from the Lenovo outlet store for my father. He has always hated the trackpads on laptops, and has always used a USB mouse. He actually likes the TrackPoint.
ericcumbee··on Starship Flight 7
NASA allows them to place cameras as media on nasa property some are even permanent. and are credentialed media for launches. so I am guessing NASA is okay with it.
ericcumbee··on Starship Flight 7
If it was the FTS wouldn't the flight control systems send a message back to the ground saying "things are going sideways here, FTS Activated"
ericcumbee··on Documenting an 1115 ft radio tower climb
The part 107 exam has a question about radio towers and the answer is 400 feet above with in 400 ft of the tower. Or up to the point you hit controlled airspace.
ericcumbee··on Zildjian, a 400-year-old cymbal-making company in Massachusetts
>Since the 1970s, the Avedis Zildjian Co. has operated under the radar in Norwell, Massachusetts.

under the radar? maybe its because I'm a former Marching band kid that played the cymbals. but Zildjian is THE brand when it comes to cymbals.

ericcumbee··on 'No Problem' Word Processor Poses a Problem for Former President Carter (1981)
From my memory that would have been intrusive to the user. Saving a file meant the computer was saving the file and doing nothing else.
ericcumbee··on NASA, Axiom Space Change Assembly Order of Commercial Space Station
One of the goals of gateway is to act as a test bed for long term manned operations outside of low earth orbit. I.e. start developing and proving the technology in flight that we are going to need for a mars mission.

ericcumbee··on American Airlines is boarding flights again after nationwide groundstop
That seems like a process that could have eaisly been reverted to a paper based worksheet of some type. from my understanding thats how they did it before the software.
ericcumbee··on Test
Anyone thats managed a website before has probably done that test post and forgot to delete it after the fact.
ericcumbee··on Rivian is opening its charging network to other EVs
from my understanding this is addressed with the new v4 supercharger stations that are coming online now. its not just a rivian problem its the same with Ford EVs as well.
ericcumbee··on DEA passenger searches halted after watchdog finds signs of rights violations
I watched the institute for justice video about this months ago. If that’s a “consensual encounter” I don’t think that word means what the dea thinks it means.
ericcumbee··on SpaceX Super Heavy splashes down in the gulf, canceling chopsticks landing
Yes Musk said before one of the first flights, that they are making changes and building new hardware at a much faster rate than they could ever hope to fly it right now. pretty much something to the effect that by the time they get to fly hardware a lot of it is obsolete.

ericcumbee··on 100-MW solar farm just broke ground in Wisconsin
have you looked at the mini split units by EG4 that take MC4 connectors straight in from a bank of PVs? it might be cheaper than you think.
ericcumbee··on Starship Flight 5: Launch and booster catch [video]
I think the problem with shuttle was more fundamental. most of the tiles for Shuttle were custom cut to fit exactly one spot on one orbiter. I've read that NASA replaced about 75 tiles per mission, and that 2/3rds of the cost of refurbishing a shuttle after flight was the TPS. so the cost of trying something out was massive.
