erfgh··on Aspartame sweetener to be declared possible cancer risk by WHO, say reports
You're seeing half the picture. Cancer is, in the large majority of cases, a preventable disease. It is caused mainly by environmental factors, i.e. the modern way of a sedentary obese lifestyle.
erfgh··on Sweden wants to build an entire city from wood
You mean they pay to live in that 1 out of 100 buildings of that age that is still standing and on which multiple extensive renovations have been conducted.
erfgh··on Sweden wants to build an entire city from wood
A concrete building has a lifespan of about 50 years. Even so, most people wouldn't want to live in a 30 or 40-year old building anyway.
erfgh··on Moving fast with the core Vim motions
Numbers are mostly useful in macros and scripts.
erfgh··on Moving fast with the core Vim motions
I don't see any of those features as improvements. Even when I had to use an IDE (java...) I never enabled any of that.
erfgh··on My Day Away from Reddit
If you can't remember what you read yesterday on the newspaper the problem might not lie with the newspaper.
erfgh··on Google doesn’t want employees working remotely anymore
"Work" is not always a production quota assigned by the local commissar.

I agree that working from home can be more productive but your argument is not convincing on its own.

erfgh··on Google doesn’t want employees working remotely anymore
Fully expect most people in the discussion to be pro-remote-work. But does anyone have hard evidence that working from home is as productive as working in the office?
erfgh··on Modding Age of Empires II with a Sprite-Diffuser
Why do people want constantly new games otherwise they think that something is dead? This is like saying basketball is dead because basketball people only play basketball and not something else.
erfgh··on The U.S. birth rate has fallen by 20% since 2007
I don't understand this mentality. Who told you that you need to own a home to have kids? I don't understand this connection that everyone seems to be making. To me it sounds like an excuse.
erfgh··on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Release
They can't control the experience you will get on your PC. PCs vary so you could get a bad experience and blame it on Nintendo.
erfgh··on Automakers are starting to admit that drivers hate touchscreens
The problem is that people love touch screens. I could never figure that out. I have always hated touch screens. They are imprecise, dirty, they inevitably hide information when you have to place your hand over them and they make packing information tightly really hard.

But, people love them because they have what appears to be zero learning curve and people hate to learn even the simplest of tasks.

erfgh··on Capturing the Flag with GPT-4
Hum... maybe it runs the scripts and sees the output?
erfgh··on The case for banning children from social media
I am Southern European by the way and I played more soccer than most kids. Even so, it wasn't possible for me to take soccer out of my pocket when I went to the toilet or when I was in bed and should be sleeping or when I was in class.
erfgh··on The case for banning children from social media
I didn't know any kids who were addicted to soccer in the sense of spending 15+ hours 365 days per year playing soccer. It's just not feasible physically.
erfgh··on The case for banning children from social media
That would probably be difficult to enforce. Just ban smartphones if you're so inclined.
erfgh··on The case for banning children from social media
How would you define advertising? If there were no advertisements how would people know about products? They would have to read discussions and recommendations but how would those discussions and recommendations not be considered advertisements?
erfgh··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
Where do you live where young people give a damn about the climate? I find this amazing.
erfgh··on Apple Music Classical
Has anyone used Apple Music on Windows? Probably the worst experience of my life.
erfgh··on GPT-4
Unless the patient agrees. I know that for most things that can go wrong with me I wouldn't have a problem with people knowing.
erfgh··on We can't all use AI. Someone has to generate the training data
Yeah but what's the alternative?
erfgh··on The age of cargo cult Agile must end
What the hell is Agile? I started professional software development 13 years ago and ever since I have been hearing and listening about Agile but I never found out what it is. Can someone explain?
erfgh··on They say that stocks go down during the day and up at night
Probably due to labor unions.
erfgh··on Google to reduce workforce by 12k
Hindsight is 20/20.
erfgh··on ‘Breakthrough’ obesity drugs that have stunned researchers
You just don't want it bad enough. You like food more than you like being thin. That's all.
erfgh··on Kids and music lessons: why do many promising players quit early?
Sorry to be an ass but it doesn't sound to me like you had any talent in music.
erfgh··on Chrome, 10 Years Later
That's not what a free market is. A free market is merely one that is not regulated by the state. Stop perpetuating this strawman please.
erfgh··on What it's like to live in Monaco
I just knew that the word "iconic" would pop up, I just didn't know where. You had me guessing until the end.

Spa and Suzuka are great tracks. Monaco and Monza are horrible tracks. The only reason they don't remove Monaco is that it has this air of glitter.

erfgh··on My building has replaced our keys with an app
Just turn it off at the fuse.
erfgh··on Why it’s hard to buy deodorant in Manhattan
Throwing shoplifters in jail results in other people afraid of trying shoplifting because if they do they might end up in jail.
