epitrochoidal··on [dead]
Not here to comment on the general topic of his post, but to point out that asserting that "none of these graphics contain even a glancing reference to gender" when several include the common symbols for male and female is disingenuous.
epitrochoidal··on “Harbinger households” consistently buy products that get discontinued (2019)
Shopping for cycling shoes sucks. I've had the very same experiences, from the poor selection in stores to the differences between instances of the same shoe model from different years. Last time, I got a second pair and told myself it was ok because now I can rotate shoes and let them dry between daily rides like I do with helmets.
epitrochoidal··on How to Vote in the 2020 Election
> Personally I think that the US should go the route of a national voting holiday.

Agree. Voting is important, and a voting holiday calls that out.

epitrochoidal··on Stitch Fix is laying off 1,400 in California, 18% of workforce
Austin, TX (where I currently live) and Minneapolis (where I have lived in the past) are not cheap places to live. Lower COL than SF, sure, but hardly inexpensive.
epitrochoidal··on How does coronavirus kill? Clinicians trace a ferocious rampage through the body
> apparently dying in excessive numbers

No agenda there whatsoever, of course.

epitrochoidal··on Ask HN: Have you been laid off?
>I don't think we should excuse the many failures of our leaders, but I also don't think the now-obvious economic impact of this crisis was that clearcut even a month ago.

Good way of looking at it.

epitrochoidal··on Ask HN: Recommendations for Working from Home?
>make sure you check what your camera "sees" in the background, and clean that up.. wall=OK, pile of laundry 3 weeks old= NOT ok

I can only assume that's why Teams has the "blur background" option.

epitrochoidal··on Ask HN: Recommendations for Working from Home?
It's definitely not for everyone. I've been doing it exclusively for three years, and I love the commute (walk upstairs) and the flexibility. I don't like missing out on deskside chats with co-workers. In my ideal world, everyone on my team would be remote, which, as of today, they will be for the next week, maybe longer.
epitrochoidal··on Jack Welch Inflicted Great Damage on Corporate America
Even if that responsibility exists, and a number of individuals have questioned whether it does, it doesn't necessarily follow that such maximization needs to be solely focused on short-term gain.
epitrochoidal··on 49% of workers, forced to change passwords, reuse same one with minor change
I tried that one, but it doesn't work when there is another policy that says you are only allowed one password change per day.
epitrochoidal··on My Sudden Trip to Hell
I don't know how it is in Europe, but those sorts of things are not typically covered by insurance in the US, except in cases where the reconstruction is related to a medical condition or accident (I got a nicer nose after breaking the original in a bicycling accident; the reconstruction was covered by health insurance). I assume those coming from EU to US for treatment would be self-pay for the treatment, yes?
epitrochoidal··on Insured, but Still Owing $109K for a Heart Attack
You mean, like Medicare? OK, it's not with every provider, just anyone who wants to be a provider.
epitrochoidal··on The day I accidentally killed a little boy
The procedure later, away from the accident scene, probably was more involved, but at the scene, unless there was evidence of negligence or bed intent I wouldn't expect an arrest. She didn't flee. Apparently didn't appear impaired. What would they possibly arrest her for?
epitrochoidal··on Ex'Tax – The big idea
Just curious, how do you identify a "real conservative"? Fiscal policy, social policy, what's the differentiator?
epitrochoidal··on Hemingway makes your writing bold and clear
irregardless, you knew what he meant, right?
epitrochoidal··on Square Slapped With Cease And Desist By Illinois State Department
From the C&D: "Consumers obtain said devices, free of charge, either through U.S. postal mail or by picking them up at multiple retail locations throughout the State of Illinois." Seems like the real issue may be the "free of charge" part. No charge, no sales tax revenue for the State of Illinois. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I can see this as a bureaucratic rationale.
