What's flipkart incubator (the url is "flipkart-incubator.github.io"). I know flipkart is the Amazon of India.
enscr··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
A CTO with polarized vision would tank the company faster.
enscr··on Amazon Preparing to Release Smartphone
Their culture is different from Apple. They didn't get a perfect product first time. But their revisions have been awesome and the beat Apple on price. Combined with Amazon prime, it does offer some advantages on content.
enscr··on Spouses of H-1B Visa Holders May Soon Be Allowed to Work in the U.S.
>education is questionable

Don't you think that generalization is stretching it.

>local economies that they didn't "pay into"

What would you like to say about millions accumulated as social security & medicare by H1B workers that they can't redeem. If one returns to their home country before certain conditions are met, all that money goes to the US.

Is there a startup that can help automate custom attacks on websites? Like guide the webmaster to look for holes in their setup. I'm guessing some security expert can do a good job educating new businesses on how to prepare for the big bad world.
enscr··on AeroMobil: Flying car
Safe air corridors is an innovation that should predate flying cars. Safe for occupants & safe for surroundings. Fender bender in air can cause a lot more damage with gravitational force.
enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
This is a must have until they can figure a better way to give selective permissions.

If someone comes to fix my house, I don't give them a free entry for lifetime just for convenience.

enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
> Facebook is limited to what its privacy policy and TOU allow

That's an utopian interpretation of how corporations work. Most of them have a motto : "It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission"

Proof : A lot of genuine lawsuits...

enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
> If you give everything fine-grained permissions, you'll have to be a software engineer to understand how to use the application

No, that fine grained permission can be intelligent & automated to protect the non-tech user. That's where Android needs to innovate. Going forward with giving blanket permissions to anything being the only way to install an app is a bad idea, even if it's a reputed company like Facebook. I don't want 10 different apps accessing my SMS just to enable easy 2FA. I also don't trust many reputed companies into doing what's best for my privacy & security.

No, creating dark profiles does not mean it'll suck data out of your device. It just means it'll gather existing data from web/pics etc.
enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
Proof? What do you want them to say. Right in bold red that we WILL read all your SMS & sell that data to advertisers.

Will I agree that the article is sensationalizing, but if history is any indication, Facebook can & will use all this data against your wishes.

enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
Their classic 'break things fast' mode. Keep infringing on user's privacy until they shout.
enscr··on Facebook for Android and Why Zuckerberg now owns your ass
I believe this is something where Android can provide a better experience by not giving a blanket permission to read all SMS. How about only allow SMS with a pre-defined header to be read by an app.
enscr··on Google Now for Chrome
Privacy concerns. They accumulate a lot of personal data for customizing your experience & providing more contextual information. This problem has been compounded by Google using subtle trickery to get more out of you.

P.S. Android phones do not have a problem with battery life

enscr··on Google Now for Chrome
With the recent push (shove) of Google+ down everyone's throat, I find myself avoiding the use of Google services that collect & store too much personal data about me. I've tried Google Now but couldn't convince myself to stick to it. The negatives outweigh the benefits. Plus I love a tighter control on how my phone battery is drained. Google Now doesn't let me do that. I see an additional 20-30% drop per day with Stock Android & Google Now enabled. So long.
enscr··on How Twitter users can fake a verified account
Twitter does not make it convenient to report accounts that are impersonating someone. Moreover it should be fairly easy for them to run a check on the background image to catch for violations of 'verified' user.
enscr··on Show HN: InstaMotor – Taking the pain out of selling your car
> Transferring vehicle ownership is confusing; that's why we take care of it.

Care to explain. I've found it extremely straight forward.

enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
So personal hygiene is a no-no until you can prove that you can get sick?
enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
Socks doesn't fix the problem completely. Unfortunately, visitors don't like being told that they can keep the socks on while walking on the carpet, but if they are to sit on the bed or put the feet up on the couch, they should take it off.

Don't even feel like discussing how clean are fresh are everyone's socks.

enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
I think OP meant that washing is good for personal hygiene i.e. not carrying pathogens smeared around on your skin/clothes.
enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
For some, it's not an option.
enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
I've yet to visit a house in India where people have separate slippers for washroom & house. Strange.
enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
- Plus squatting is a better posture for properly emptying yourself.

Although sitting for longer than 5 minutes is painful and gets worse with age.

enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
If you remove your shoes outside and walk barefoot, you're just sharing the sweat, dirt & germs of your foot with everyone else at home & guests. You'll probably take that to bed with you and sometimes sleep on it. If you must leave your shoes outside, wear an 'inside-only' slippers.
enscr··on Japanese Toilets: The Future Called 30 Years Ago
You've used correct logic but you missed the point OP was trying to convey.

Some good comments here that I feel like implementing

@ColonelPanic001 : dark cube, overhead lights off, monitor at minimum brightness

@jisaacstone : large monitor, big font, keep it far away. Relax instead of leaning in toward the screen. I am often mentally tired at the end of day but no eye strain.

@a8da6b0c91d : get sunlight

@xbonez : try http://justgetflux.com/

@djb_hackernews : Personal experience on why taking timely care is important

enscr··on Exercising for Healthier Eyes
Any reference on working with lights on vs off? I've seen 1 or 2 people do that in office. I've been told that lack of ambient light might cause more strain. Is there any study supporting what you've said?
enscr··on After reviewing about 30 YC applications, here's some general advice
All good except :

> if you can't get growth, then you should probably hang up your boots and retire from founder life

Don't let anybody tell you when to retire.

enscr··on Should "Yes, delete it" be red, or green?
I've found Undo prone to failure. E.g.

- In Android's gmail, sometimes undo does not recover the message (probably a bug)

- When I'm swiping pictures in Android and accidentally delete a picture and by the time I realize, the momentum of my action has already dismissed undo.

- Gmail undo : disappears after a time span. What if I delete & suddenly get distracted by something. By the time I return, I've to dig through trash to recover my action.

They won't be of any real help. It's better to get to popular blogs in India like nextbigwhat, trak.in, etc. A coverage on TOI will get you a lot of mileage.
