emurillo510··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
proof of stake is efficient but not decentralized in design. the rich get richer in proof of stake
emurillo510··on Over 2 percent of the US's electricity generation now goes to Bitcoin
it takes a lot of computational power to secure something so important like protecting a whole digital currency. you can only make profit by creating renewable resources in bitcoin ecosystem.
emurillo510··on Ask HN: Why isn't Phoenix/Elixir more mainstream?
dynamic typing allows for hot code swaps. which is super important for systems that need 24/7 uptime.
emurillo510··on Designing Good Interfaces
why not just check the array if it's empty? post doesn't give a good example.

I argue that the "better way" has more conceptual overhead. if this was a large project. just changing oil would require to understand many ideas.

emurillo510··on IBM to cut about 3,900 workers while still hiring in ‘higher growth’ areas
costco still uses IBM products.. DB2 ... spufi anyone? I believe some companies like Gap are still using them as point-of-sale as well. It seems IBM has too many employees for the things they do.. I expect more cuts.
emurillo510··on Ask HN: Are privacy concerns around Microsoft Windows 11 overblown?
I'm currently a Microsoft employee, I feel like your data is secure, at least from my experiences. we are audited by consultants regularly and have internal teams making sure there are no security breaches. even things like log messages are scrubbed and strictly PR reviewed, but that's just my org. It could be different elsewhere
emurillo510··on Ask HN: Why is Microsoft Teams still so bad?
msft is going away from electron and will now use react native
emurillo510··on El Salvador Made Bitcoin a National Currency. The Bet Isn’t Paying Off
the title implies that el salvador is playing in a casino. They simply want to opt out of the united states controlled monopoly game. bitcoin is the currency out of the system and yet the transition phase has it still pegged since the net buyers are people who own USD. We are early it's going to take some time and education to fully depeg. I would say we are 7-25 years away from more than 15% percent adoption.

this article is clearly opinioned piece, not a "report". You can pull up facts and write a piece on the benefits on bitcoin. these guys clearly hate the president

emurillo510··on Show HN: Umbrel – A personal server OS for self-hosting
If you are reading this please take a look at start9. https://start9.com/

The major problem with Umbrel is that even though they package all in one-solutions. If something goes wrong you rely on umbrel for issues (against decentralization). You will rely on their updates for any problems.

start9 built an linux os group up. all services are individually packaged from source.

umbrel packages all dependencies together (via docker container) which could causes issues for maintenace.

emurillo510··on The Bitcoin Investment Thesis Is Broken
the us dollar system is the biggest pyramid scheme :D. Ask people in third world countries. Bitcoin is an alternative from US fiat currency. It is not country backed, but run by individual actors around the world. Will there be volatility? yes, welcome to a true free market system in a high inflation world
emurillo510··on U.S. forgives 40k student loans
what happened to the free market economy? the incentive structure is fucked. As a person who worked my ass off this decade, it is unfair :(
emurillo510··on Snowflake users can now “just turn on” real-time ML capabilities
I hear good things about this Tecton company, I wonder what tech stack they use!
emurillo510··on Ask HN: How many of you changed your mind about Bitcoin?
What changed my mind was that bitcoin is truly decentralized. There is no known founder, it has free market incentives. Technologically, it is some what exciting. But what makes it great is the macro economic side of things. Proof of work, encouraging renewable energy(people on grid don't make money). It encourages people to save due to monetary policy and has made me a conscious consumer.
emurillo510··on Ask HN: How to Seriously Start with Machine Learning and AI
right on thanks neel8986.
emurillo510··on Ask HN: How to Seriously Start with Machine Learning and AI
hey neel8986, I know linear algebra is very important for large scale calculations. But how much calculus and statistics do you need for ML? Also, if you can touch what applications of calculus and statistics are used in ML that would be awesome :]. THANKS!
emurillo510··on Ask HN: Need Advice Losing Focus and Motivation
The war of art is a good book on resistance. It is a very motivating book. The hardest part about tackling something you want to do is starting. Once you start, it's easy to get locked in get into the rhythm. Have fun, enjoy the moment, get a friend to help you; set small goals and make progress. You just got to man up and fight it.
emurillo510··on 40,000 NYU students realize they can 'reply all' to everyone
my CS department chair at San Jose State recently 'reply all' on an email and ended up sending all currently enrolled CS students information about GPA, address, phone number, and expected graduation date. All we got back was an apology letter... At least everyone has my address and I have theirs :P
