I'm just trying to understand what makes you think that in the field of design, 99.99% of the professionals are clueless? What about in the marketers? Are they also 99.99% clueless?
Trying to learn how non-designers think of the profession/professional designers.
Design makes or breaks a product. Not sure where you got the impression that it's useless and professional designers gets nothing done.
Any Severance fans?
IMO the insight, self-awareness, or revelation you may be seeking would most likely come from a conversation where you have space to think, reflect, be asked a lot of "Why" questions, and so on.
How can a company shit the bed so bad?!
This video explains in more details the thought process behind the design decisions. https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10640/
IMO it is incredibly well implemented and thought through. And it works amazingly well and serves a clear purpose for the medium which is iPadOS with all of its design details.
In the user interface/interaction world, I'd go as far as calling it genius.
This post fails to explain the core principle of designing websites; the content comes first, always.
1. Write: Write the content first, in google docs or whatever. 2. Edit: Go over your content, edit it. Cut it in half in possible. Remove most of the fluff. 3. Information Hierarchy: Structure your content. Go over this a few times. 4. Emphasis: Given each piece of the content, how best to emphasize it based on what its saying?
Now you're ready to think about design. Browse websites that you like and first focus on their typography. If you understand what makes good typography, you're already more than halfway there.
Obviously there's a lot more to it. My point is your content is your raw material that _needs_ designing. If your content is not good, I don't care how good your design skills are, your website will suck.
1. How much of someone's suffering and/or depression is due to brain chemical imbalance vs society and environment around them.
2. Would alleviating someone's depression and/or excessive anxiety would make them happy but with indifference to their surrounding, making them oblivious to the environment around them while being in a state of bliss.
3. The ethical dilemma of "fixing" someone by handing them a pill, instead of working on actually improving the real issues that may be contributing to their psychological pain.
I think these are different issues that are not necessarily easy to answer one way or another. Non of these issues are self evidently clear which way should we go about them.
The same technology that is drawing cute unicorns can be used for endless other use cases. Perhaps the PR side of the launch and the subject matter they show unveil their product is just that, PR.
It's like Apple Memoji thing (not sure if I'm spelling it correctly). You can think of as trivial and waste of talent to use their Camera/FaceID to animate cute animals based on facial expression, but that same tech will enable lots other things to come.
