elsigh··on Graphite is joining Cursor
Congratulations Tomas!
elsigh··on Weather app using Nano Banana Pro
I went to it today but it showed me weather for Dec 1
elsigh··on Pyrefly: Python type checker and language server in Rust
It's turbopack time: https://nextjs.org/blog/next-16-beta
elsigh··on Elite: "The game that couldn't be written" [video]
> mysterious aliens that pluck you out of hyperspace

This mechanic was so interesting - it would happen to me, I'd manage to survive the assualt, and then be so far away from anywhere to refuel, and without enough fuel to jump again, that I'd be dead-in-the-water every time. It was so weird to win the battle and then.. not. But I couldn't help but always get excited when it would happen! Did anyone ever survive this?

elsigh··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2021)
Vercel | Infrastructure Engineer, Engineering Manager | https://vercel.com/careers

As a Vercel Infrastructure Engineer, you will help to scale and improve our infrastructure, availability, and reliability by working closely with our backend engineers and product team to identify problems, create tooling and automation. If you have a solid background in software engineering and are familiar with Cloud Services (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, or others), Node.js, Terraform, or Kubernetes we'd like to meet you.

elsigh··on Why forgiving someone else is about you
Why not move and call it quits? That might actually enable you to forgive them (from afar). Calling it quits was the first step in my forgiveness towards my parents. You could send them occasional updates but you shouldn't feel like you're obligated to otherwise engage (at least for a period of like 6 months - and then reevaluate).
elsigh··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
Me and a friend are working on a chords/lyrics/music tool: https://Songbook.Studio

It's a PWA, based on Dropbox APIs built using NextJS & MaterialUI

elsigh··on iNaturalist is a social network of people helping each other learn about nature
"iNaturalist is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society."

It makes me pretty happy that this is not a VC-backed startup.

elsigh··on Songcraft Beta – A songwriting tool and guitar tab builder
This is cool! Me and a friend have been working on https://chartcomposer.com/ which is specifically hooked up to Dropbox and uses the VSCode monaco-editor as a front end for the ChordPro syntax. Seems like there's interest in this space which is exciting.

elsigh··on You can now run WebAssembly on Cloudflare Workers
There is such a steady stream of excellent work and innovation coming from Cloudflare these days - it's pretty amazing.
elsigh··on Moving from Native Apps to Progressive Web Apps
I'm a web developer, and excited about progressive web apps. But until we have access to sensors and video streaming that isn't subpar, and sweet/easy camera APIs - this idea is good but simply not great- and that's a big difference when it comes to making an amazing UX on your crappy little phone. At least today: * service workers only on chrome * the install prompt is totally not a native browser feature * mobile web browsers are straight up slower at rendering
elsigh··on Mutt 1.6
> Nothing to envy from Gmail.

I switched because of search, which is amazing in gmail and hard in mutt (for me). What do you do?

elsigh··on Angular 2 versus React
But it's not just about writing individual components when you build an app (you need something like a router still for instance). I say this as someone who rather likes the model Web Components espouses. Developer ecosystems matter a lot - for development, debugging and hiring. At present you have a great many more resources/communities to reach out if you go with React. When you get stuck with Web Components or polymer, and you will get stuck, you are a lot more on your own. Also, for building you are, at least presently afaik, limited to vulcanize instead of the richer set of tools out there for more typical patterns. Vulcanize is cool, but again - if you get stuck, and you will if you do something complex - you have to rely on a much smaller community to help you out.
elsigh··on YouTab: Automatically get chords for music
Certainly love the concept! And the UI flow and automatic lyrics-to-chords feature appears to have worked on my song just great.

But... it doesn't seem to play, which is kind of a bummer.. Maybe the server is being swamped?

elsigh··on MathBox 2
I viewed this whole presentation on a MacBook Air plugged into a 32" monitor, and while 1 or 2 of the slides would pause here and there, overall it was amazingly smooth. Mind blown.
elsigh··on A Reminder To Investors
Anyone who worries about this to the extent that they choose not to invest in a great idea/product/company run by females is just a bad investor.
elsigh··on Ripple.js – A tiny foundation for building reactive views
Scumbag hamburger menu - links to github instead of showing / hiding unnecessary drawer ;0
elsigh··on Bowery – The Next Generation of Web Development
I think without a free starting point of some kind, this is going to be a tough sell. Perhaps a week free or something like that would enable someone to see if they like it enough to start paying for it.
elsigh··on Bowery – The Next Generation of Web Development
+1 Not a friendly developer message at all. This point of view reeks of arrogance.
