elromulous··on RAM now represents 35 percent of bill of materials for HP PCs
There are asics for ai. They're called gpus / tpus.
elromulous··on Terence Tao, at 8 years old (1984) [pdf]
My brain initially parsed the title as an obituary title and I was really sad for a moment.
elromulous··on Gemini 3 Deep Think
In my experience, a grad student hour is treated as free :(
elromulous··on Rust’s Standard Library on the GPU
It was ahead of its time!

When I was in grad school I tried getting my hands on a phi, it seemed impossible.

elromulous··on Ubisoft cancels six games including Prince of Persia and closes studios
Stock price by itself is meaningless. Instead what you want is market cap (number of shares x share price).
elromulous··on [dead]
"He noted that taking ivermectin and fenbendazole to treat the cancer did not work"
elromulous··on guys why does armenian completely break Claude
Reminds me of how in the original the matrix plot the humans were being used for compute power, but the studio execs decided audiences wouldn't understand it.
elromulous··on guys why does armenian completely break Claude
The Jeff Goldblum virus one?

I believe fans have provided a retroactive explanation that all our computer tech was based on reverse engineering the crashed alien ship, and thus the arch, and abis etc were compatible.

It's a movie, so whatever, but considering how easily a single project / vendor / chip / anything breaks compatibility, it's a laughable explanation.

Edit: phrasing

elromulous··on Cardiovascular disease is a solved problem
You realize correlation does not imply causation?

Edit: this was written before OP edited their comment

elromulous··on BMW Patents Proprietary Screws That Only Dealerships Can Remove
They must have thought it's _so_ clever that the screw/bit is their logo.
elromulous··on Power over Ethernet (PoE) basics and beyond
"every engineer"? Should a chemical or nuclear energy engineer have to know about PoE?
elromulous··on Rotring 600 Ballpoint Pen
Love the rotring pencils.

If you haven't already, give the Alvin Draft/Matic a try, imho it's up there along with them.

elromulous··on How Tesla is proving doubters right on why its robotaxi service cannot scale
Literally the plot of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
elromulous··on GCC 15.1
Devil's advocate: this would be unacceptable for os kernels and super performance critical code (e.g. hft).
elromulous··on The Llama 4 herd
Was this released in error? One would think it would be accompanied by a press release / blog post.
elromulous··on Waymos crash less than human drivers
Wow. Is that a typo for death? Not only do they not value human life much at all, losing multiple limbs is more than dying?
elromulous··on Alphabet spins out Taara – Internet over lasers
Fwiw, Google X predates the Twitter -> X rename by more than a decade.
elromulous··on Show HN: Bayleaf – Building a low-profile wireless split keyboard
"Sans stagger — I’m not against stagger, I just love the neat look of a pain rectangle." [sic]

What an apt typo :)

elromulous··on 3blue1brown YouTube Bitcoin video taken down as copyright violation
Pizza Hut outside the US
elromulous··on Liberating Wi-Fi on the ESP32 [video]
Fyi, while Nordic products are usually excellent, they did not design the wifi ics. They bought a company and slapped their name on the chips. I haven't used them yet, but from what I've heard they don't live up to Nordic's standard.

Edit: also afaik they don't have a mcu+wifi in one yet.

elromulous··on Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory
Fun fact, these two very similarly named diodes are completely different

<Surprised Pikachu face>

Who would have thought simpler physics are easier to regress against /s

elromulous··on No GPS required: our app can now locate underground trains
Citymapper has been able to tell you what stop you're at for many years (at least on the NYC subway). How does their solution work?
elromulous··on C++: Uncompromised Performance, Undefined Behavior, & Move Semantics [video]
Can anyone here with connections to CppNow get them to upload a corrected video? The lecture and the slides are out of sync.
elromulous··on C++ proposal: There are exactly 8 bits in a byte
Technically the smallest addressable piece of memory is a word.
elromulous··on 'NYC doesn't heart you': 80% of heart attack sufferers die due to slow response
The other part of it is the complete and total apathy of drivers. They'll hear/see an ambulance in their rearview and despite having sometimes the option to move to the side, will just sit there, expecting someone in another lane to move out of the way.
elromulous··on Flow Computing aims to boost CPUs with ‘parallel processing units’
Does anyone have any knowledge/understanding on how this is (or isn't?) fundamentally different from Intel's Xeon Phi?
