elktea··on Show HN: I 3D scanned the interior of the Great Pyramid at Giza
I enjoy reading far out theories like these. I recently[1] saw one that claimed all the weird tunnels that terminate just short of the outside resemble wave guides, the big tunnel with the grooves was a low pass filter and the whole structure was basically a giant antenna

Any electrical engineers around feel like modelling it seeing how true it is?

elktea··on Commander Keen in Keen Dreams
There are a few forks with lots of activity since the original release, this one in particular seems quite active

elktea··on Toyota unveils 8.7 kWh battery for residential applications
EVs are not going to prevent fucking over the future. There is no good future where we continue to produce 70 million new cars per year.
elktea··on Kagi search and Orion browser enter public beta
I enjoy Kagi, results are great. I hope the pricing comes down a little in future.

edit: just paid, it came to about $15AUD after bank conversion fees which is about the price of a streaming service here.

elktea··on Windows Update vs. My Router
Why would you put yourself through this
elktea··on I saw a cool truck today
If you are 'slamming' on the brakes many times during a normal trip you're probably a really poor driver and you're going too fast for the condition. Please try a new style of driving in future.
elktea··on Microplastics found in live human lung tissue
That is interesting. We have the same machine, which now concerns me. However due to recently removing on some old paint which we later suspected might have been lead based I Thad some blood tests for lead levels and everything was fine.
elktea··on A Square Meal – Foods of the ‘20s and ‘30s
Logically then, the stuff they ate wasn't the cause of obesity. Modern nutrition must have got it wrong.
elktea··on A Square Meal – Foods of the ‘20s and ‘30s
Fantastic trove of information. It really shows how the modern diet with its emphasis on grains & vegetables is wildly different from how we were eating only a mere 100 years ago.
elktea··on Firefox UI/UX History
In the early mockups I saw for Proton the floating tab buttons never existed. I wonder what happened that we ended up with such odd tabs.
elktea··on Web3 is centralized and inefficient
web3 is the new ipv5
elktea··on Twitter makes it harder to choose the old reverse-chronological feed
I like both. When I run out of tweets I switch to 'Home' mode and get to see a whole new slew of things related to people I follow
elktea··on Time to run or time to walk? Your body knows the answer
this is the idea behind barefoot running I believe
elktea··on City Generator
this thing does a better job than all of the new developments here
elktea··on Uutils: an attempt at writing cross-platform CLI utilities in Rust
I am sure the authors of the uutils utlities did actually look at the GPL source code. If that is the case, shouldn't this project be GPL as well?

disclaimer: I did actually make the first commit on one of these tools, but I didn't look at the source of the original C code.

elktea··on Leaving MySQL
as we are all discussing the pros and cons of various DBs, my favourite MySQL feature has to be the pluggable storage engines. Being able to support both InnoDB and RocksDB backed tables in the same database is wonderful. Just today I made use of the MyRocks storage engine's handy TTL [1] feature instead of a tedious delete & optimise scheduled job

elktea··on Leaving MySQL
These are not typical workloads for databases, and I don't think very useful
elktea··on 32 Bit Real Estate
Which ISP are you with, out of curiosity?
elktea··on The Serde Rust Framework
Serde is great. I wish it did XML as well but that's a trickier proposition
elktea··on Hello IPv6: a minimal tutorial for IPv4 users
regarding (1), the route table growth is actually not slowing. as we run out of IPv4 addresses there is more fragmentation as bigger blocks are split up and sold.
elktea··on IPv6 Fundamentals: A Straightforward Approach to Understanding IPv6, 2nd Edition
router that do BGP are cheap, especially if you're only taking a default route which is all you're going to need for using multiple ISPs for redundancy.
elktea··on Transmission torrent client ported to C++
Does anyone know where to get up-to-date windows builds?
elktea··on Did AS8003 just disappear?

elktea··on Did AS8003 just disappear?
