elAhmo··on FTC is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies over product risks
Do we really think that FTC under this administration, which is in bed with top tech billionaires giving gifts for inauguration will do anything against them?

Let's not kid ourselves.

Good riddance, if you are such a high profile person and spread misinformation causing deaths of children and elderly, then you deserve no voice online.

I assume you think that yelling fire in a theater is also a heterodoxy?

elAhmo··on Gemini 4 Argon
> Quantum algorithmic optimization: Argon is helping our quantum computing researchers optimize the spacetime resources (qubits × gates) of subroutines that bottleneck important applications. In one example, it beat the published baseline by 40% in a matter of minutes.

Amazing breakthrough! So useful in day to day life, glad they put this as the first bullet of how it is making changes at Google.

elAhmo··on GitHub has not removed malicious imitation software after 3 weeks
It is a problem they could solve if they want to. They have billions of profits per quarter.

They just don't want to. Not malicious, just ignorant and disrespectful of their users.

elAhmo··on GitHub has not removed malicious imitation software after 3 weeks
Describes pretty much any of the big companies. For example, I have seen numerous times people got their account locked on Google, or their app stuck in limbo at Apple, and then after post becomes viral all problems get solved.
elAhmo··on OpenAI agent hacked Australian government website, PM says
It is ridiculous to say it is agent from a company, like it is a legal entity on its own doing something.

Imagine if I committed a murder, and then say it was my guy who did it acting rogue.

It is time for these companies to start being responsible for all the shit they are doing.

elAhmo··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
This is not AI killing poeole, this is US government killing poeole.
elAhmo··on I don't like passkeys
Ecosystem is not mature yet for individuals?

Probably hundreds of millions or even billion people have devices that support biometric auth. How is that not mature?

elAhmo··on macOS 27 Golden Gate – Review
Interesting list. I think you are very detached from what a normal user of computers/laptops today need. If you think features such as AudioCD ripping are in the top 100 features someone might ask from an OS today. Last time I saw someone using a CD was probably more than 10 years ago.
elAhmo··on macOS 27 Golden Gate – Review
Someone who does need a window system can use many of the hundreds of tools available, or use something custom. Regular uses don't really care about window management systems.
elAhmo··on macOS 27 Golden Gate – Review
Well, it is easy to be excited on a system that is lagging on features.
elAhmo··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
This is Mr. comedy is legal and free speech, and public town square, right?

I understand that he is a vile POS, but I don't understand people supporting him and using his products.

elAhmo··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Because they make money of them.
elAhmo··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
There is nothing to disprove as you don't understand what does a word mean. Deterministic is not a spectrum, they can either be deterministic or not. In both cases, they are not.
elAhmo··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
Are you saying scripts from agents are deterministic? :)
elAhmo··on Bending Spoons buying Miro for $1.355B
NO, this is referring to more than 750 customers with (large) $100K ARR, not Miro's ARR in total.
elAhmo··on Bending Spoons buying Miro for $1.355B
BS is slowly but steadily growing their userbase. Knowhing how did it go for their other purchases, of which I was using many (Komoot, Eventbrite, Meetup), not a single one has avoided constant nags of prompting for upgrades and dark patterns, so this will most likely end up in a similar way.

As many share, I used Miro and found it quite nice.

elAhmo··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
Fair enough, but they are not really cycling for 45 hours :)
elAhmo··on iPhone Duo
I also usually just carry laptop if I need a bigger screen (and usually never use it on trips or holidays), but I do remember fondly of time when I had an iPad mini (not sure which gen), and it was very often in my jacket's pocket and was a really enjoyable device for consuming content, reading stuff, etc.

So when I was watching the keynote, I got those vibes of 'this is actually a form factor that I used in the past, if the price is not too wild I might get it'.

elAhmo··on iPhone Duo
Was the 4-6% figure officially confirmed or just speculation?
elAhmo··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
I haven't met anyone who is serious about cycling and not using a real bike computer.
elAhmo··on I resigned from Anthropic today
Neither does an LLM model.
elAhmo··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
Wholesome read. These guys are enjoying life and I loved reading the FAQ in the end, as well as them acknowledging they are very lucky!
elAhmo··on Mistral raises €3B
Apple is a hardware company.
elAhmo··on GPT-6 Astra
Is this official or based on people's reports?
elAhmo··on GPT-6 Astra
Could you share more about 5x/20x? I missed that
elAhmo··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
Google cites them too. As a user of both Google and Perplexity, they are just showing what information is out there to the user. This is just sad reality of what internet has become.

Similar example is Google Images and nearly every picture being from Pinterest, as they have figured a way to manipulate rankings.

elAhmo··on I Don't Have a Smartphone
> When I buy something, from a small kitchen appliance to a car, I’m now forced to get formal confirmation by the seller that I will be able to use it without installing one, two or three different apps.

I have no idea where is without buying stuff, but other than a car I bought more than a dozen of appliances or devices in the past years and other than obvious ones (label printer), none required an app, or it was pushed by a vendor.

elAhmo··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
More like zero. No one wakes up and decides to fight one of the richest companies in the world.
elAhmo··on AnkiDroid: Google Play no longer allowing Open Collective donation link
If you think average person buying an Android smartphone will use something like Komi-Store, obtanium or anything like that, you are in for a treat.
