ekusiadadus··on I Prefer RST to Markdown (2024)
I’ve never used reST since Markdown has usually been sufficient for me. However, I recently had a situation where Markdown became frustrating to work with. Indeed, once a document exceeds ten pages, I feel that reST would make managing it much easier.

It would be nice if emphasis and other inline formatting worked smoothly even in agglutinative languages...

ekusiadadus··on Safari vs. Chrome: The best browser for Apple users in 2025
Safari is the best browser on Mac for sure. But when it comes to with browser extension, it's awful. You could not find useful extensions.
ekusiadadus··on Ask HN: How are you teach your kids programming in 2025?
I don't have direct experience yet since my son is only 0 years old, but I'm absolutely planning to introduce him to competitive programming when he's older.

I personally got hooked on AtCoder and Codeforces when I was in middle school. Back then, many contests started around 2 AM Japan time, which was tough, but it was incredibly fun. That experience is what led me to become a software engineer.

This hasn't changed even in the AI era. I now have Claude Code write most of my code, and I don't spend nearly as much time actually writing code as I used to. However, the underlying data structures and algorithms still excite me immensely. There's something deeply satisfying about understanding the fundamental concepts and problem-solving techniques that no AI tool can replace.

Competitive programming teaches you to think algorithmically and break down complex problems - skills that remain valuable whether you're writing code yourself or directing AI to do it for you.

ekusiadadus··on Show HN: VibeTime – Track your Claude Code usage and see how you rank globally
Hey HN! I built VibeTime because I wanted to know how much I was spending on Claude Code and how my usage compared to other developers.

It started when I realized I had no idea how much I was actually spending on AI coding assistants. The ccusage tool by @ryoppippi was great for local tracking, but I wanted to:

- See my usage trends over time with charts - Compare my usage with the community - Access my data from anywhere - Track usage across multiple machines

Technical details: - CLI: TypeScript wrapper around ccusage with cloud sync - Web: SvelteKit on Cloudflare Workers with D1 database - Auth: Lucia Auth with OAuth (Google/GitHub/Facebook) - Privacy: All ccusage features work offline, sync is optional

Quick start: npm install -g vibetime vibetime daily # Works immediately, no setup

The web dashboard is at https://vibetime.ekusiadadus.workers.dev

I'd love feedback on: - The onboarding experience - What other metrics would be useful to track - Ideas for the ranking/gamification aspects

Happy to answer any questions!

ekusiadadus··on Ask HN: How can I grow as an engineer without good seniors to learn from?
You seem to be feeling limited in your current work environment. A new workplace might offer an exciting environment that makes you feel energized. Indeed, it's important for engineers to gain various experiences and acquire different technical skills. Following your feelings, it would be better for you to change jobs.

Hi, I'm the original commenter.

There was absolutely no negative meaning intended. It was simply a really interesting project, and I was the first to discover the post.

As someone pointed out, in my country, it doesn't have any negative connotation at all.

If I made the original poster feel bad, I apologize.

ekusiadadus··on A mistake that killed Japan's software industry? (2023)
Japanese game companies became successful because they owned the patents for gaming systems like Nintendo and PlayStation.

However, even though Japan invented the Walkman and early mobile phones, they couldn't keep control of the smartphone market.

This shows that having patents for gaming machines worked well, but patents for music players and phones didn't help Japan stay on top.

ekusiadadus··on The English Paradox: Four decades of life and language in Japan
I'm Japanese.

Speaking English in Japan is very challenging. All my friends and family speak Japanese, and everything from social media to news is completely accessible in Japanese.

I'm an entrepreneur, and I use English when talking with international clients and overseas VCs. However, I lack confidence, and the communication tends to remain superficial, making it difficult to effectively do business internationally. In this environment, it's hard to feel a real necessity to communicate in English. Since elementary school, we've been told that being able to speak English is extremely important, and I studied hard. Yet in this environment, there are rarely opportunities to actually use English.

When foreigners tell us about the importance of English, they may not fully understand that it doesn't really matter much to most Japanese people. Japanese people might start speaking English when they truly need it.

Rather than that, I'd be happier if AI could provide real-time translation for everything.

ekusiadadus··on Ask HN: How to structure Rust, Axum, and SQLx for clean architecture?
It looks good... But what I want to know is the DDD (or clean architecture) based project.

It seems that bionic-gpt is not based on them :(

Anyway, thank you!

ekusiadadus··on Ask HN: How to structure Rust, Axum, and SQLx for clean architecture?
Thank you. Indeed, that's true. I'll create this and use it as a template to avoid focusing too much on directory structures in the future.
