I don't know about licensing/copyright of the decks.
There are shared decks [1] and you can create your own very easily. Whenever I stumble over a new fact throughout the day, I (try to) add it to my deck. To test the system, I learned all european countries with capitals and all US states in 4 hours total (spread over weeks, just 1-2 minutes spent every other day). It's really easy and fun.
I use both the desktop and the mobile apps, they keep in sync.
MacFarlane, GitHub, meteor, reddit and Atwood/stackexchange can let the world know that "markdown" is now legacy and the future lies in Marky
What are some examples?
I'll start with heavy number crunching (Go/C) and browser-based apps (JS)

Users who need a readable URL just use the bookmarklet.
Just in case an unexperienced developer reads that. Don't do it. If you expect high read loads, better invest your time in learning/thinking about caching, fragment caching, russian doll caching and invalidating these caches. Memcached or Redis come to my mind.
Edit: and already merged & deployed less than an hour later. Contributing is fun :)
