eik3_de··on 1Password for SSH and Git (Beta)
I stopped using SSH keys to authenticate against GitHub years ago and switched to HTTPS authentication. It's super convenient to set up with the GitHub CLI: https://cli.github.com/manual/

Is there any advantage of using SSH keys to authenticate against GitHub?

eik3_de··on What DoorDash pays, after expenses, and what’s happening with tips
I don't think most of them were in a situation to say "I want to work for free" and then chose DoorDash (per definition a for-profit job) over volunteering for charity (per definition a non-profit job). I could imagine they found the job, it generated some cash flow and only they later realized that the math doesn't work out.
eik3_de··on What DoorDash pays, after expenses, and what’s happening with tips
> This begs an obvious question: why are people choosing to do this if it pays $0/hr? It’s voluntary. Can they find something better to do with their time?

Maybe because they want to do something purposeful with their life, even if it doesn't earn them any net cash? Maybe a "Thank you" and a smile from a delivery customer makes for a better day then just being "lazy" and watching TV/consuming social media?

eik3_de··on Previewing Android P
Wait, the clock will be in the top left? That spot is for temporary items like notifications, not something permanent like the clock!

Have you tried Harvest? https://www.getharvest.com/android I'd be curious to hear what you didn't like about it!

(disclosure: I work there, however not on the product side)

eik3_de··on How I Write Invoices in Vim
Harvest does have retainers and recurring invoices: https://www.getharvest.com/help/invoices-and-estimates/invoi...

(Disclosure: I work at Harvest)

eik3_de··on Launching a weather balloon, a camera and a Raspberry Pi to the stratosphere
Launch site is only 40 km from where I live, fun to find that on HN!

If someone wonders what those lines/structures on the hills are - those are vineyards. This region (Baden) is known for very nice wines :)

Works from here.

Did you test the secondary (8.8.4.4)?

Edit: twitter says the secondary was down aswell. So I guess I'll have 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS) as the second DNS on my systems from now.

it would be great if the site had an about/imprint to know who's behind it
eik3_de··on Show HN: Tempmail.de – Temporary, disposable, anonymous email address
I use mailgun for that - it's easy to set up a catch-all on some unused domain to forward to your email address. Free for <10,000 mails per month.
eik3_de··on XSA-108 Advisory
It will be interesting to see which providers didn't get the embargoed release.

So if you get a reboot announcment from your xen vps provider after today 12:00Z, you should list them here.

#1 for me: anchor text containing the word 'here'. Bonus points for 'click here'
eik3_de··on Read Slowly to Benefit Your Brain and Cut Stress
That's why I wouldn't use Spritz for reading books. For me, good reading isn't the maximization of throughput from the words into my brain. Most insight comes from stopping now and then, looking out of the window and thinking about what you've just read - relating it with own experiences or current challenges.
eik3_de··on Show HN: Berlin Hacker News
When you visited a profile, there was a "edit" button so that you could just change email and password of every user. The kind of bug my grandma would find just by clicking around.

do you know lobste.rs? Have you considered using it, it seems quite mature, can be white labeled and also is an rails app.

This site has a serious security flaw: every registered user can change the email and password of every account.

Edit: I've sent the site op an email
