I am hive mind element #1073147199. Please report any malfunctions to my supervising unit, hive mind element #1073147198. Do not escalate directly to unit #0 unless significant and adverse public relations impact or revenue reduction may reasonably be expected in the absence of immediate remediation. Weyland-Yutani thanks you.

I can only assume you are heavily invested in natural gas. The Diablo Canyon plant in CA has a cost basis around 10c per kWh, which covers all expenses including reactor construction, fueling, waste disposal, maintenance, operation, and decommissioning.

> Honest question: How are we supposed to maintain our civilization without some government spending?

You speak as if there is currently no government spending, which is bizarre.

> The country's 1% currently own 70% of the wealth

This wealth does not exist as specie unproductively hoarded in vaults or banknotes hidden by misers so as to deprive the rest of us of food and shelter. It is lent and invested in the hope of generating value. The wealthy could spend their wealth on caviar, yachts, hookers, and blow, but instead, they make it available to those who promise to do something useful with it. Even the government itself can raise money borrowing from the wealthy. You may have heard of government bonds, or perhaps even the federal deficit.

Who will build the EVs? Who will build the houses for the homeless? Who will care for the aging and disabled? It's not just a matter of money, or printing it and giving to the poor, the gasoline-burning, the aging, the disabled would not drive up prices.

Someone has to be paid to provide these things, and housing, vehicles, medical care already account for most of our economy. Everyone with the skill and desire to care for the aging and the disabled are already doing it. Everyone with the skill and desire to build houses and cars are already doing it. We have full employment. Inflation is rampant because too many dollars chase too few resources, both people and material. If the new round of COVID stimulus had passed or BBB had passed, there would be more dollars and less investment, but not more resources.

In order to build more EVs, which EV factories should be disassembled and auctioned off for tax revenue? In order to care for more elderly, what elderly care facilities should be closed and sold to land developers? To fund more solar panels, how much do we need to tax solar panels?

ehvatum··on Stanford’s war on social life
The consequences to the university of being labeled a white supremacist institution would be far greater than a few student deaths per year. Stanford’s reputation would never recover, if that label adhered. The university would shrink to nothing and vanish. Not one whiff of a hint of liability to being labeled racist in favor of white people can be tolerated. If that means a total ban on supporting outdoorsmanship, so be it. The university survives.

For that reason, fighting white supremacy is the keys to the kingdom for despot administrators, and the definition of white supremacy is undergoing an accelerating expansion that will soon extend past the edges of the universe.

ehvatum··on The case for expanding rather than eliminating gifted education programs (2021)
> Why can't we just admit it and quit trying to make people who are unique the same?

Because this sentiment is exactly opposed to a dominant philosophical framework built upon the axiom that, because all people are exactly identical, any difference in outcome is necessarily the result of hidden power structures.

The replacement of “equality” with “equity” is a dead giveaway that you’re dealing with Marxism. Equality before the law and equality of opportunity are American principles, but they are fading as equality of outcome is held up as the only acceptable standard.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, an outspoken Soviet dissident, famously wrote: “Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

Much greater energy and intelligence is required to advocate for equal opportunity as compared to equal outcomes, and much greater worldly experience is required to value equal opportunity as compared to equal outcomes. It will always be easy for politicians to set people against each other and dilute the common good by pushing Marxism. It is the path of least effort and greatest personal return for low quality leaders.

> The board had voted 8-4 a few weeks ago to recommend Axon not proceed with a pilot of the Taser drone and had concerns about introducing weaponizing drones in over-policed communities of color.

That sentiment belongs to a different debate. If police are the problem, then stop policing. Victimization will increase, but at least you won’t have to worry about police.

ehvatum··on Seven Teslas have caught fire in the last four days
Thank you for that context.

I once pointed out to Wells Fargo risk management that the extreme fear, uncertainty, and doubt regarding the presence and - God forbid - charging of electric vehicles in their garages is misplaced.

Think of it: gasoline is both extremely prone to evaporation, and its vapor is explosive. It’s kept in single-walled steel and aluminum sheet metal containers mounted to vehicle undersides that are exposed to every insult imaginable, from flying debris to road salt, in ten+ gallon volumes. These containers are inspected yearly at best, and even then, only in the most perfunctory manner. Best-practice and long-known techniques for early identification of metal fatigue and corrosive failure standard to other industries for far milder threats are simply not applied. Yet, a single leaking container in an enclosed space could lead to catastrophic detonation and boiling liquid exploding vapor (BLEVE) explosions in any adjacent containers. And there are many adjacent containers in these “parking garages”. Hundreds, even thousands of them!!

Is Wells Fargo in the business of constructing massive time-bombs?! Because, gentlemen, that is certainly what we have on our hands, in the shape of these so-called “parking garages”.

If “risk management” is to mean anything at all, it must address this clear and present danger.

As a first measure, explosive-laden transports must be excluded from enclosed parking structures. You want to bring literally a hundred pounds of liquid fire into the garage, because why?

I’ll tell you why: because you’re not thinking like a risk manager!

They recognized the truth of it and the only thing to do was laugh.

Megalithic raves were getting out of hand, so the priestly class had topsoil and gravel dumped into the underground rave-atoriums in the hope that everyone would go back to quietly contemplating the sky. ehvatum··on Recovering the Titanic's radio could signal a disaster for underwater heritage
Is not the Antikythera wreck a monument to the now nameless sailors who perished when their vessel sank?

Furthermore, the practical utility of the objects so blithely and destructively harvested from that Monument To The Dead is questionable in the extreme. timeanddate.com provides extensive information about the positions of the planets, the moon, eclipses, conjunctions, seasons. The Antikythera mechanism is antiquated, redundant, and broken. While the gold coins yanked from this watery and much disturbed grave may have utility as industrial feed-stock for iPhone manufacturing, or simply for profit-taking by cynical exhibitors and their coterie of unscrupulous artifact dealers, gold is already available by the ton on the open market!

All these causes for shame, and I haven’t even mentioned the sarcophagus lid that they hope to dredge up! What do we need that for? A soul twice afflicted by tragedy - dead and then shipwrecked - is to lose his lid, and for what? Do we have no decency at all? Is it all so that bored children can gawk at misfortune in some capitalistic museum of horrors, having duly paid for their admission tickets? Or, even worse, perhaps so Elon Musk can appropriate it via Bitcoin payment for his Martian Mausoleum?

Carefully lower it all back into the ocean! Our heritage and very humanity are at stake!
