egonschiele··on Apple violated antitrust ruling, judge finds
> you do practically have to keep records of what you are doing to comply

I would argue that the text the parent comment has pulled out is not part of the record keeping you need to do to comply. Lawyers will tell you to have certain conversations in person, and it is surprising that some of these conversations happened in text instead of in person.

egonschiele··on CSS Hell
I'd love to plug Josh Comeau's excellent CSS course https://css-for-js.dev/ Expensive but worth every penny.

egonschiele··on Whistleblower: DOGE Siphoned NLRB Case Data
Could someone outline the implications of this?
egonschiele··on Parser Combinators Beat Regexes
The idea of functions returning functions makes a lot of people's heads spin! I've struggled to get people using this library too, but I use it in personal work and it is an absolute joy. One of my favorite things I've made.
egonschiele··on Parser Combinators Beat Regexes
Hey! I love parser combinators and wish they were more mainstream. That's why I wrote Tarsec, which is Parsec for TypeScript: https://github.com/egonSchiele/tarsec

I have a short and a long intro, both illustrated: https://github.com/egonSchiele/tarsec/blob/main/tutorials/5-... and https://github.com/egonSchiele/tarsec/blob/main/tutorials/th...

It also has a neat debug mode, and a way to benchmark performance. I've loved using it, hopefully someone reading will use it too! Use this as a chance to learn something cool (parser combinators)!

nit: same-origin policy is the restriction. CORS isn't the restriction, it's the thing that helps you. CORS is the solution, not the problem.

Would illustrated blog posts interest you? I just started `Old Man Yells at Cloud` to try to cover AWS: https://www.ducktyped.org/p/a-mini-book-on-aws-networking-in...

egonschiele··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Cool, thanks for the response!
egonschiele··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Sorry, to clarify: I did read that part, but I'm saying, can you expand on that?
egonschiele··on Trump wins presidency for second time
What do they care about, then? I have no connection with people like you're describing, so anything you can say would be interesting to hear. My understanding is based on the news is the economy, and gun control.
egonschiele··on StreamPot: Run FFmpeg as an API with fluent-FFmpeg compatibility, queues and S3
I see there's a paid version of Streampot. My understanding is the ffmpeg license is pretty restrictive, and doesn't allow for any commercial use unless you sign a contract with them. Is that something Streampot has done? Just wondering because I have looked into using ffmpeg in a commercial project and the license stopped me from doing so.
egonschiele··on Gems of Tailwind CSS
That is like a surprising limitation! Any idea why?
egonschiele··on Gems of Tailwind CSS
Really great list, I didn't know about most of these. `line-clamp` is finicky though, and often doesn't work the way I'd expect.
egonschiele··on Lessons after a Half-billion GPT Tokens
I haven't tried response_format, I'll give that a shot. I've had issues with function calling. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just returns random Python code.
egonschiele··on Lessons after a Half-billion GPT Tokens
I have a personal writing app that uses the OpenAI models and this post is bang on. One of my learnings related to "Lesson 1: When it comes to prompts, less is more":

I was trying to build an intelligent search feature for my notes and asking ChatGPT to return structured JSON data. For example, I wanted to ask "give me all my notes that mention Haskell in the last 2 years that are marked as draft", and let Chat GPT figure out what to return. This only worked some of the time. Instead, I put my data in a SQLite database, sent ChatGPT the schema, and asked it to write a query to return what I wanted. That has worked much better.

egonschiele··on Natalie – a work-in-progress Ruby compiler, written in Ruby and C++
Cool, that was my read as well. Just making sure I wasn't missing something!
egonschiele··on Natalie – a work-in-progress Ruby compiler, written in Ruby and C++
What's the goal of the project? It's not clear from the Github repo or the site (natalie-lang.org).
egonschiele··on Unlimited Kagi searches for $10 per month
A lot of comments mention privacy. Could someone explain who can see my searches at Kagi? My experience working at startups is that companies are very lax with customer PII. With a product like this, I have to assume every engineer at Kagi can see every search I make.

Looks like the Minnesota chapter is not very active, but if there are other people from the Twin Cities on here, I'd be interested in meeting up. adit.io is my blog.

I agree with everything except the last bit. I have purchases on Apple TV, and I'm not a subscriber, but when I launch the app, all I see is subscriber-only content. Apple Music is similar.
egonschiele··on Meduza co-founder's phone infected with Pegasus
I read that if Pegasus is on your phone, even a factory reset will not get rid of it. Could someone explain why?
egonschiele··on Meduza co-founder's phone infected with Pegasus
You also need to jailbreak your phone to use MVT.
egonschiele··on Hundreds of thousands trafficked to work as online scammers in SE Asia, says UN
This is not as simple as your argument makes it out to be. The US has a long history of imprisoning people so they can be used as slaves. Netflix has a good documentary on it:

egonschiele··on ToDesktop – Web app to desktop app in minutes
To that point, though, aren't those services $10 - $30 per month? If they're able to sell this for $99 - $240/month, surely they'll see competition, leading to a race to the bottom?
egonschiele··on ToDesktop – Web app to desktop app in minutes
This looks interesting to me, but the cheapest tier is $99/month. Why is it so expensive? Isn't this just building an Electron app for you?

Consumer Reports doesn't have this issue I believe. The write-ups aren't as good but they've been around for a while.
