egeozcan··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
Harnessing it? On one side people like DHH arguing ADHD is just "boys being boys", and at the other side there are people who obviously watched too many "ADHD is my superpower" reels on Instagram.
egeozcan··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
No, great, I'm not offended or anything (why would I be), and I wish I could relate back, it's just a weird feeling, that's all.
egeozcan··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
As a person who has ADHD, it feels weird when people who obviously do not have it, claim to have it, while there's very little I wouldn't do to "get rid of it" (in quotes because it makes me, me but it's very hard to be me).
egeozcan··on Jellyfin 12.0
This gave me an idea, what if I let an agent make a proxy for Jellyfin to act like Plex? Best of both worlds!

Maybe worth a try.

egeozcan··on My local model setup on an M4 Pro Mac Mini
In normal times in which hardware used to depreciate (lately that's not the case and HW even appreciates, but let's not get distracted), if you calculate only with depreciation costs, plus the fact that when you have such a setup, it'd take many 200$ subs to cover your lack of limits in the other, I think it'd not be a clear victory for any side.

If you just ask "who spent more in the first year" (100% depreciation) then even with 5-6 max accounts, buying HW will be a couple of times more expensive. But when does it make sense to ask that question?

Maybe the SotA models will need better hardware so your investment will not be useful after a year or you'd need very expensive upgrades? But then (as in Fable case) subscribers need to spend more too.

egeozcan··on Fastpotify
Anthropic can prevent people from using their models with the subscription plan outside Claude Code, why couldn't Spotify?
egeozcan··on Fastpotify
Winamp feature is great but so random, and I love how it's listed as if it's a usual feature expected from any music player.

Hoping for a future in which people complain about missing basic functionality like winamp mode being missing in their music player of choice!

Let me start: I was going to recommend foobar2000 with the spotify plugin but the lack of a winamp mode must be a dealbreaker for many!

egeozcan··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
That summarizes my whole computer use. I used to believe it was my tolerance, but then I took out a good old YP-G70CB (Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0) from a drawer and everything felt much snappier than my S25.

The only computer that's the exception is my macbook m4. This thing was and still is ridiculously snappy.

egeozcan··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
I wonder if they already use LLMs in development. However, and maybe I'm misremembering, but they were doing clean room development so it may not even be possible (because of copyrighted stuff leaking through LLMs).
egeozcan··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
When they cannot argue "but think about the children", then they start with "but think about the clueless people"!

They always have someone to protect, some holy cause.

Who are we to complain about the tiny detail of computers not being personal anymore?

egeozcan··on HTML over WebSockets: real-time SPAs with barely any JavaScript
This gives me too much <script runat="server"> or even JSF vibes.
egeozcan··on Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc
My son and we as his parents really love Bluey, but it's impossible to buy a DVD set here in Germany, with German dub, because Disney distributes it exclusively through their plus platform.

There are many more examples like these. Very sad state of affairs.

egeozcan··on AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog
People hate the false effort signaling. Photos require effort and skill to take, and while it's perhaps less than an oil painting, it's still something.

If you push AI-generated content to make stuff look fancy, it's a bad idea. If you generate stuff to communicate more clearly, I don't see a problem.

egeozcan··on Karpathy’s Pelican
Black mirror is the dark version of simpsons with a bit of xkcd.
egeozcan··on More German than many Germans
Came to Germany to do an MBA at 2009, plan was to go back to Turkey after 5 years. Still there (well currently temporarily in south Turkey for vacation).

Germans are very nice, Germany is very nice, and I applied to be German finally last year after getting the 30th "come on be German already" letter (I'm lazy af). They told me (us, together with my wife) that they need 30 months to process the application, lol.

There are many things to complain about, many things to love, lots of tolerance, AfD is scary (very similar to AKP, the party that made me leave Turkey in the first place) but these days I think more positive. I'm trying to be one of those people who try to keep things going for everyone. Adlerian stuff :)

I think staying here was one of the best decisions of my life. Here's to the next 17 years in this land of the meckerei with love.

egeozcan··on Devtools must be open source
The thing that made me pull the plug on claude subscription was that I couldn't use pi.

I can use codex on pi, deepseek on pi, I use them on different tasks and let them review each other.

Tell deepseek flash anything you want changed and a minute later it's there.

Forget vibe coding, I'm vibe-using the thing and having so much fun.

egeozcan··on Smaller, faster, safer: running Kimi and GLM at scale
> One vCPU means nothing, which chip? which SIMD? what RAM speed? what storage? what latency?

Don't forget: When will all of this change?

egeozcan··on The US is not a democracy but an oligarchy, study concludes (2014)
To complete the circle: The definition of working is vastly different among humans, and that's why we have (or trying to have) democracy.
egeozcan··on Karpathy’s Pelican
Training impossibilities aside, how would you even make an optimization loop for "fun"?

> They just have the creative instincts of a 50 year old accountant

That's oddly specific and it'd really hurt my cousins feelings :)

egeozcan··on Show HN: I'm a 15 Year Old Wannabe Engineer, This Is a Cycloidal Gearbox I Built
Let's accept that engineering has 2 different uses and that's okay. If I tell people that I'm a civil engineer with nothing to show for it, it'd be as big of a problem like pretending to be an MD. For software engineering, however, you'd just be at the start of your career.

I think it's fine.

egeozcan··on Hamburg's Stadtpark: A Park Built to Be Used
Yeah thanks for the response! We actually didn't consider Harburg exactly because of the bad reputation, but thanks to your comment we'll have another look. Cheers!
egeozcan··on DeepSeek-V4-Flash Update
Every time I want to have fun coding something with natural language processing, I use deepseek flash. It's just incredible for the price. I have a fairly popular app with 400 users that uses DeepSeek in the background and it still didn't hit even 50 bucks of usage in a month.
egeozcan··on Hamburg's Stadtpark: A Park Built to Be Used
For a family of three (2 adults, both working full time + a 3 year-old), are there places to live that doesn't require us to sell our kidneys to pay rent and are reasonable in terms of commute + services?
egeozcan··on Hamburg's Stadtpark: A Park Built to Be Used
We're living in Hesse and every time we make the long trip to go to Hamburg the Stadtpark is where we spend most of our time. You'll think I'm exaggerating but honestly, we're thinking of moving to Hamburg and the Stadtpark is the biggest reason.

Hamburg is a wonderful city, there's also that :)

egeozcan··on Show HN: Bullshit Detector – agent skills that fact-check videos and articles
That was an exceptionally fun to read slop :) Cool idea in any case!
egeozcan··on Choose DuckDB rather than SQLite
TL;DR: SQLite was doing OLAP work it was never built for (and it was okay at it, I must add), and the perf. ceiling moves two orders of magnitude when you use something that's more fit for the purpose (DuckDB in this case).

TLDRTL;DR: If everything you do is column-store territory, use a column-store.

egeozcan··on Show HN: Bullshit Detector – agent skills that fact-check videos and articles
Can someone please use this skill against the claims in its own repo?
egeozcan··on Hubble: Open-source notetaking app for you and your agents
I think it looks high quality. Perhaps it needs a way for those mini-html apps to store data? Also some additional docs and clear marketing that differentiates it from Obsidian would be cool as well.
egeozcan··on Hubble: Open-source notetaking app for you and your agents
I also have one I developed according to my use: https://github.com/egeozcan/mahpastes

It has a rest api and a cli tool, and also the possibility to make headless deployments, and it can sync clips without a sync server. It can serve folders/tags and optionally expose a read or read/write api for JSON files on the same level. It supports lua plugins, and I have a fal.ai plugin to generate/edit images already in the repo (some other examples there).

It has a lot of features so maybe it's better if I just link to the docs: https://egeozcan.github.io/mahpastes/
