I think what just happened here is a good example of how far to the right (and towards blatant Aristocracy) we’ve come. The political spectrum is completely blown out to one side, to the point where mentioning paying taxes is considered off brand and bad, instead of patriotic.
Either way - I’m pretty sure they want Ukraine and then there’s mutually assured destruction.
The right may criticise the left of pandering to identity politics but that’s rich. Sounds like projection to me.
Unfortunately I see “woke” as a brand the right uses to disparage compassion, tolerance and intellectualism.
Anyway, my point is that software is often what wrangles the complexity of a business process and makes it repeatable. I don’t see that going away any time soon.
But seriously - don't we have institutions that verify and reject obvious overreaches of power like this?
I don’t understand this, can you explain what you meant? Maybe with examples?
In hindsight it looks like grift. If Elon controls the payments systems and Trump can enact tariffs, it seems like they’ve set up a very easy way to take money from taxpayers and put it wherever they want without oversight.
This resonates with me, as I was just last night telling a friend about the grift that is “the singularity”. Remember that? The tech bros were really concerned about that for a hot moment, then their stock went up… …but nobody seems worried about the singularity anymore.
I’ve seen the same thing happen in my own life by listening to Vaporwave. Vaporwave’s ironic use of 90s smooth jazz has given way to me seeking out the depths of Kenny G’s discography. I actually love Pat Metheny Group now.
Be careful out there. You become the memes you consume.
They’re great for doing something that has been done before, but their hallucinations are wildly incorrect when novelty is at play - and I’ll add they’re always very authoritative! I’m glad my languages of choice have a compiler!
But I think this is the point of the article - that we start thinking with “a wartime mindset”. Which is a shame, but maybe necessary given the state of the world.
Bindless is a game changer - pun intended. It can’t happen soon enough.
Just curious, what are the three major projects that were cancelled?
I also want to mention that folks are shipping high performance games in Rust - the first title that comes to mind is “Tiny Glade” which is breathtakingly gorgeous, though it is a casual game. It does not run on wgpu though, to my knowledge. I may have a different definition of high performance, with lower expectations.
