edavis··on Drupal 10.0
Ah, gotcha. Great stuff here to start digging into.

Thanks for taking the time!

edavis··on Drupal 10.0
Were there any resources (books, websites, videos, etc) that you found especially helpful as a WordPress developer trying to learn Drupal?

I sling WordPress everyday and like it for the most part, but I'd like to have some Drupal knowledge in my back pocket. WordPress isn't always the best fit for some projects.

So I'm on the hunt for "Drupal 101 for advanced WordPress developers" type material.

Thanks in advance!

edavis··on Ask HN: I have diagnosed ADHD and cannot work with Slack anymore – advice?
System Preferences > Accessibility > Display > enable "Reduce motion"

Though I think this reduces motion on everything, not just the virtual desktop animations. I don't mind that but YMMV.

> It's Latin so it must be smart.

It's perfect, in a way, that the full quote is "Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit." which translates to "And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness."

edavis··on RSS is wonderful
HN proper doesn't, but I run hnrss.org which can do this:

https://hnrss.org/newest?points=50 (100 and 150 also supported)

edavis··on Hacker News RSS
Hey everybody, hnrss maintainer here.

Just FYI, I’ve recently added a (what else?) RSS feed for hnrss if you want to stay updated: https://hnrss.github.io/updates.xml

If you're using hnrss in interesting ways I'd love to hear about it! Reply below.

edavis··on Show HN: Second-Chance Pool
https://hnrss.org/pool is now available.

Also, forgot to mention this before, make sure to subscribe to https://hnrss.github.io/updates.xml if you want to be notified of project updates!

edavis··on Show HN: Second-Chance Pool
For any RSS heads out there, /invited is available via hnrss.org: https://hnrss.org/invited

I'll try to add /pool to hnrss.org this weekend, too, if time allows.

I'll take that bet :)

This post is on https://news.ycombinator.com/invited, a partial list of posts given a second chance at wider visibility by the mods.

edavis··on Ask HN: How do you deal with high-volume RSS feeds?
Bookmark the homepages of busy feeds and then toss them out of your feed reader.

I did this a few weeks ago and it's been great.

BBC World News would be a good one to start with, I imagine. Bookmark the homepage and then unsubscribe from the feed. Click the bookmark once or twice a day, or whenever. Click through to full articles of stuff that interests you. Rinse and repeat.

Keep doing this for each busy feed as needed. Eventually you'll be left with just the quiet feeds.

edavis··on Show HN: Ten seconds to ponder if a thread is worth it
In a similar vein, does anybody know of a browser extension that lets me throttle bandwidth for a defined list of domains? Or some piece of software I could run on a Mac that would accomplish the same thing?

For the longest time I've wanted to make Twitter load at a snail's pace. Make it so everything takes just long enough that I don't mindlessly scroll for long periods of time. In my mind, it's a nice middle ground between blocking entirely and allowing full access.

I can mimic it via "Throttling" in DevTools > Network with a custom profile (or one of the 3G profiles), but I'm looking for something that doesn't need DevTools open all the time to work.

edavis··on U.S. Capitol Locked Down Amid Escalating Protests
Regarding "the Constitution says only the legislature sets the election rules," David French had a good post debunking some falsehoods about this line of thought: https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/debunking-the-frivolou...

In a nutshell: Yes, state legislatures are responsible for deciding the "Manner" used to appoint Presidential electors. And in most states, the "Manner" set forth by the state legislature is "general ballot at the general election."

And as long as that process occurs, stuff like disputes over deadlines, drop box locations, signature verifications, etc stay squarely in the realm of election administration. As Judge Brett Ludwig (a Trump appointee) put it:

> But issues of mere administration of a general election do not mean there has not been a “general ballot” at a “general election.” Plaintiff’s conflation of these potential nonconformities with Constitutional violations is contrary to the plain meaning of the Electors Clause. If plaintiff’s reading of “Manner” was correct, any disappointed loser in a Presidential election, able to hire a team of clever lawyers, could flag claimed deviations from the election rules and cast doubt on the election results. This would risk turning every Presidential election into a federal court lawsuit over the Electors Clause. (Internal citations omitted.)

Reading this just made my day!

Doubtful... I don't think I ever managed to snag "edavis" as a nick on IRC. Sorry!
edavis··on Hacker News RSS Feeds
Ha, it's all good. FWIW, the validator is now giving me a "recommendation" on the feed that I haven't seen before.

I wouldn't have checked the validator without your comment so in the end it all worked out!

edavis··on Hacker News RSS Feeds
1) If you add `?link=comments` to any URL, that'll set the `<link>` element to point to the Hacker News item.

2) Good catch. I'll take a look.

edavis··on Hacker News RSS Feeds
Good catch. It seems to be coming out valid now but maybe there was something invalid in the feed earlier. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it pops up again.

Thanks for the report!

edavis··on Hacker News RSS Feeds
Yeah, /frontpage was mostly added for completeness but you can toss filters like `?points=50` or `?q=javascript` onto it which might be helpful.
