I'll probably say something you don't like. Deal with it kiddo. Independent eCommerce Shop fulfilling fun, hard to find items for 14+ years!

ecommerceguy··on Dots: Always-on agents
I feel like these companies are pushing on a string, they are getting desperate to have a profitable product. I'll continue to use my $10 subscription to an AI studio noone here has heard of that has over 150 models. And still use all the free ones, until they quit working.

I really am beyond maxed out at the availability of AI's. They all are so similar now.

ecommerceguy··on Show HN: Doom or Bloom, map your AI worldview
I couldnt get past 30%. Useless.
ecommerceguy··on Back and shoulder surgery is often worse than useless
I've had a searing rotator cuff for over 2 years. Someone recommended peptides called Wolverine Blend. It is now healed after 3 weeks of injections.

The thing is, this seems to be rather common.

ecommerceguy··on I asked Meta’s Muse for its filesystem and it sent me 6.8GB
Will Muse cut down on scrolling? I've read about people using it to summarize FB Marketplace listings, cutting down on time spent there.

I of course won't use it.

ecommerceguy··on Make your first edit to OpenStreetMap
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've made my fist OSM updates. As a former gis guy, this is awesome!
ecommerceguy··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
Well, as a bar owner, I use Toast surcharging.

https://support.toasttab.com/en/article/Toast-Surcharge-Over...

Any other questions?

ecommerceguy··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
Correct, Toast specifically will not allow it under any circumstance.

Debit cards issued by smaller community banks or credit unions are exempt from the cap and carry higher interchange rates (often 1.0%–1.65% + $0.10).

All merchants should either do Surcharging or Cash Discount.

ecommerceguy··on Starbase, LA
Hmmm. Aquire all these properties under the guise of reviving things for racing and oopsie it failed what ever shall we do with all these properties now? Oh yeah do what we do best – build data centers.

"health insurance is really expensive when you have to cover it yourself."

Not necessarily, often it is much less.

t. I am a partner in an L&H insurance agency.

ecommerceguy··on Neo Radar: A browser-based orbital mechanics engine with 41k real asteroids
Very cool I'm going to share with our NEKAAL group at Farpoint Observatory.
ecommerceguy··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
Is there really demand for 4000 plus data centers? I have a feeling that's shooting a bit above the mark (10x).
ecommerceguy··on Land Atlas – soil, farmability, and crop analysis for land listings
Relying on soil surveys at 5 acres is typically not advised. Soil samples will always yield best results. Your State Ag School usually will process them gratis or for little cost (they may ask to add the sample to a database). The more samples the better!

One of the best:

Homeowners, if you care about your grass looking great, not a bad idea to get a sample.

ecommerceguy··on Land Atlas – soil, farmability, and crop analysis for land listings
Former GIS guy here, I've modeled and mapped hundreds of rural jurisdictions so I'm familiar with what you are trying to accomplish. Not sure how comprehensive USDA soil surveys are these days as soil conditions can be hyper local (down to the feet).

Many of large ranch lands and farms are going to be listed exclusively by a certain broker which may require website scrapping at minimum and or heads up data entry at worst.

Colorado:

For general usability, I'd suggest at a minimum adding State and County lines, and further, census place points for labeling.

You've included some interesting filters that's for sure.

And of course my usual plug for a great mapping book - How to Lie with Maps - https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/H/bo274005...

I'd be willing to give you input.

ecommerceguy··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
At Farpoint Observatory, this is a major concern for those keeping an eye out for near Earth objects.
ecommerceguy··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
Does this ring true in California?
ecommerceguy··on Google Chrome Installed a 4GB AI Model on Your PC
Memory prices will adjust accordingly as this becomes the norm.
ecommerceguy··on Claude Fable 5 Promotional Access
Yawn, after Toasts AI provided me with very incorrect sales numbers, I'm scaling back ai use. Its glorified search for non coders at best.
ecommerceguy··on GPT-5.5 hallucinates 3x more than MIT-licensed GLM-5.2
It's very much looking like OpenAI will be bailed out, along with all the other Capex'ers. I say this because the trump admin (I feel partially at fault because I voted for him) has indicated they will be bailing out the entire ai stargate from intel and amd to amazon and anthropic. I know alot of everyday folks that absolutely hate - passionately HATE - anything and everything tech bro. Downvote all you want, that's the reality. They see Palantir et al as evil and demonic.
ecommerceguy··on Show HN: An 8-bit live gamecast for baseball
This is great! Thank you for coming up with this.

ecommerceguy··on CrankGPT
I wasted many hours this weekend chatting with ai, so I did my business in excel using https://udm14.com/ to find relevant pages "old school". AI slops out fast.
ecommerceguy··on Alphabet announces $80B equity capital raise to expand AI infra and compute

ecommerceguy··on Anthropic confidentially submits draft S-1 to the SEC
Really seems that this entire industry has been told it will get a MASSIVE bailout. And with Fink basically confirming so means, Hillary was right? Trump is a tyrannus dictator?
ecommerceguy··on The dead economy theory
My 2 cents is in 3 years the inference products will be a commodity, extremely competitive with diminishing returns, seeing that the open weight models are getting so good and nearing par with sota.

I feel 90% of sota for 10% of cost / compute is good enough for 80% of workloads.

Question is, do we need all of this hardware? Are build outs going to get canceled. 4300 new data centers seems excessive. I personally haven't experienced any service disruptions...
