eberfreitas··on Ask HN: Does anyone else feel like nothing matters anymore?
Came here to say the same
eberfreitas··on Codeberg Divides
> More importantly, LLMs if done and used well, should be welcome to all of us. They could be used to reclaim control and power, away from large corporations and institutions.

Is it just me, or does this read rather naive?

eberfreitas··on OpenAI to become for-profit company
Can we please, move this comment to the top?
eberfreitas··on Roc Lang – Elm but for everywhere [video]
I don't think so (could be wrong), but it does perform optimistic mutation on your functional code.

There is a talk somewhere where Richard "demos" this.

eberfreitas··on How not to hire a North Korean plant posing as a techie
Source?
eberfreitas··on Sao Paulo: A city with no outdoor advertisements (2013)
Well. "O buraco é mais embaixo". But by the tone of your message I can see there is no point in trying to develop this any further.
eberfreitas··on Sao Paulo: A city with no outdoor advertisements (2013)
Actually it is the opposite, it is a scream from those who don't really have a voice in the city.

Really recommend watching the documentary PIXO, you can find the full doc in YouTube with english subtitles.

[edit: suggesting the documentary]

eberfreitas··on SCP-055
And if you like SCP and videogames you should definitly check out the game Control.
eberfreitas··on Ask HN: Are you satisfied with Elixir or do you regret choosing Elixir?
You can use alpine.js. There is even a way to integrate it with LV: https://dockyard.com/blog/2020/12/21/optimizing-user-experie...
eberfreitas··on Things I Learnt in 2020
About artificially created language I really like Toki Pona - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toki_Pona

Very minimalist, nice sounds.

eberfreitas··on Bytepack – Package, sell and deliver software
FWIW, this is by the company of the creator of the Elixir language, Dashbit.
eberfreitas··on Comparing Ember Octane and React
I wrote the Elm counterpart of the same example...

eberfreitas··on A Little Clojure
> Whenever I look it just looks pointlessly complicated.

Quite the opposite on my experience. The fact that something is familiar doesn't mean it is free of complications.

eberfreitas··on Fallout from Blizzard Hong Kong Incident
Real question: How is what China is doing any different from what we've seen the US do to Venezuela (the Adobe incident) or even Cuba for that matter?
eberfreitas··on If you must run Windows 10
There is basically one reason why I use a Windows machine and that is games. I know linux has seen a lot of movement in that area (tks Valve) but I've tried it, and it works great, but performance is better in Windows for my machine. So I bought this machine where I can game (it is not anything fancy) and I would really like to work on it as well.

I have a notebook with Ubuntu installed and if you would ask me I would rather work on the linux machine, but I'm trying to push the envelope with WSL2 to develop with RoR... Weird bugs and slow sometimes (better than WSL1 tho). Oh well...

eberfreitas··on Why All of Our Games Look Like Crap
I love pixel art. For me is not only a hint at nostalgia but an art form in itself and that is alright. I like the aesthetics of it, I like the way it looks and I can admire the professionals that work with that kind of art.
eberfreitas··on Nobody talks about the real reason to use tabs over spaces
Also, you couldn't possibly follow ruby's style guide with tabs:

https://rubystyle.guide/#indent-conditional-assignment

eberfreitas··on Ask HN: Why did your startup fail?
We hired too much too early. We didn't measure the impact of employees on our revenue so we had more people working on the product but we where not growing with it. Then, we took too long to fire those people or find ways to make the structure work.
eberfreitas··on Cloudflare now sells domains at a wholesale price
Say I wanna sell domains myself. Should I contact a company with reselling plans? Is there a more direct way of doing it?
eberfreitas··on India scientists dismiss Einstein theories
Brazil is going on the same path with the new presidency.
eberfreitas··on Little justice for Brazilian journalists killed within the country
I can't down vote you but this type of comment is heartbreaking. People are dying, freedom is being restrict and you make a comment totally out of context and out of respect for the subject. This is sad, just sad...
eberfreitas··on Ask HN: What discontinued company/product do you wish was still around?
RethinkDB was forked by some members of the community as RebirthDB and now it is being merged back to the original repository. Lot's of exciting stuff is going on on that front and those guys need help pushing the newest release.
eberfreitas··on Postbox email client
Is there a reason why we don't see many hosted webmail clients? Something like gmail but for anything else?
eberfreitas··on SiriusXM to Acquire Pandora
RIP Rdio... I also loved it. It had a great portfolio, the website was not massively heavy and it had a very nice design overall...
eberfreitas··on The Last Goodbye
It takes much more time, effort and labor to secure high profit margins...
eberfreitas··on Procrastination is more about managing emotions than time: study
Are there any (legal) drugs that helps to focus or "inhibit" the amygdala or something in order to be more productive?
eberfreitas··on Ask HN: How about creating an indie alternative to Udemy?
Take a look at Podia: https://www.podia.com
eberfreitas··on Cubans cheer as internet goes nationwide for a day
For a lot of americans driven out of their homes by gigantic medical bills, the US is hell...
eberfreitas··on Cubans cheer as internet goes nationwide for a day
I love the freedom of the internet, but today it is led by just a few companies that control information for profit and some sketchy things.

I'm afraid that the internet is not as free as it used to be as it reinforces and "locks" you on a culture of individual consumerism over communal well-being.

I can only hope that the internet won't erase from memory what the Cuban revolution was all about.

eberfreitas··on A female engineer's opinion on why there are fewer women in tech
I don't know why this is being downvoted. This should be the top response to this thread...
