dzonga··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Consultative Selling - by Mack Hanan.

pretty much you've to sell dollars to high up decision makers. and promise ROI. pretty radical.

just have to put what I have been reading in practice.

dzonga··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
yep - very few know or acknowledge the damage the Iran war has done to the US GDP and war fighting (i.e weapons, industry) etc

largely due the us gvt hiding information, suppressing. e.g all the bases in the Middle East are toast in range of missiles or drones. that means the us will withdraw from them silently.

weapons stockpiles are almost depleted. and replacing them takes years.

so 10% of Iran GDP vs that --

dzonga··on NASA asked several former SR-71A staffers to help secret restart
people behave like engineers grow on trees.

or processes can be restarted if they were not preserved and actively practiced.

dzonga··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
the more integrations are made to enable 'a.i' the more use cases for document databases.
dzonga··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
Dario n sama though smart n driven individuals keep trying this game of tryna one up competition by regulatory capture.

maybe they will succeed just like how it was done with the Interstate Commerce Commission.

but likely now competition is global thanks to the Chinese labs and other small model providers like Mistral.

dzonga··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
why don't Japanese auto-makers embrace the super+ hybrid that was embraced by Chinese auto makers. having electric motors and a small engine to constantly charge / drive the motors.

Japanese auto makers are already good at hybrid power trains, small engines.

surely extended range vehicles - 1000km+/700mi+ shouldn't be limited to Chinese brands only.

dzonga··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
just for context -- watch the video which expresses the ideas really well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7AfAcQwLW0
dzonga··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
glad you pointed out something very few people point out in these conversations - the cheap uranium fuel France gets has a very large hidden cost.

the coups that happened recently in west africa are largely due to that largely hidden cost.

dzonga··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
tldr:

dhh says 37signal's apps for Hey (their email platform moving to native)

backend for their email platform is now Rust - written by agents

says Rust produces small binaries - cutting number of servers needed from 110 to 10. hell they could serve peak traffic on a Raspberry Pi

says now that agents write all the code - use faster / native languages.

rails or ruby hardly get a mention besides that they might be well placed to capture web apps written by agents.

dzonga··on Strands Harness
is anyone using strands ? I looked into it and ended up picking mastra as it had a better story / seems more complete for people making agents in typescript.
dzonga··on Fertility rate dropped over 50% within 10 years in Argentina
children of men becoming prophetic day by day.

funny enough before people used to make estimates of how earth won't have resources to carry a large population. hence some people would need to settle in space or that there needs to a massive drive in birth control, which led to Chinese 1 child policy which has had a devastating effect.

dzonga··on DoorDash Spent $1.4M Trying to Stop Mamdani from Becoming Mayor. Now We Know Why
services like door-dash are literally built on a concept of a sucker pays more. you order a meal that costs $10. total charge comes to $25. then delivery worker made $5 on that order. + the delivery worker expects a tip.

which means the company sees both the delivery worker and the person who ordered as suckers. no wonder ride-share companies jumped onto food-delivery.

dzonga··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
having experienced the UK & US markets - I can tell you within the startup cohort those using lever / Ashby etc - it's not that they have multiple positions - but they're tryna pull an illusion of growth specially in the UK market.

because luckily in the UK market - companies books are open to the public.

dzonga··on Side-stepping the Secretary Problem, unwittingly
this is how hiring at a small or early stage startup should be done.

however - seems a lot of people these days are into performance theatre. maybe the blessing of A.I is it took away the need for leetcode.

if you're a startup with less than 20 people, hell even less than 100. why do you have 4 interview stages. 2 calls should be enough. hire quickly, fire quickly if need be.

dzonga··on Transit rewards
at times I wonder all that money pumped into uber & Lyft to subsidize rides could've been pumped into electric buses that run 24/7

how much cheaper and accessible transportation would be. on the other side uber Lyft etc enabled plenty of people who were perennially unemployed to gain income. while the subsidized rates are gone, seems the ride share companies are making some of their money on food deliveries instead (another place robots could take over ??)

anyways this is a good move from Waymo if only the program can be maintained for 20+ years.

dzonga··on 9 Ads per Minute: FIFA Cup 26 – "the price of the beautiful game"
and the Italian league.

honestly I think it's not a bad move - as it allows for tactical flexibility.

dzonga··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
thanks for the resources.
dzonga··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
companies like Costco, Patagonia etc are rare why ? because deliberate actions & care have been taken to go against the grain of what a company should do.

just like the USA at it's founding - deliberate actions were taken etc that were counter to the normal. & going against the wind takes a lot of energy.

at a certain point in time - you run out of energy or you've to keep keep reinvesting to not run out otherwise barbarians are knocking down at the gate.

dzonga··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
companies aren't human beings with morals.

companies exist for the sole reason to make money - not to make the world better - that's a side effect.

but unfortunately a lot of people wanna see the world as they wish it to be, not the way it is.

dzonga··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
once again judgment comes into play.

judgement + taste is the difference maker.

dzonga··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
I have been considering using my other laptop as a place to run my agents in production since 1. my laptop is more powerful than the vps I can rent for cheap.

then just use Cloudflare tunnels to connect to the laptop.

dzonga··on Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chairman, Names Son to Replace Him
for the downside - countless cultures have had preventative mechanism for that.

if your biological child is an idiot/wasteman - then you could adopt - the Roman Empire ran on adopted children, with biological children seen as wasteman.

the other way it's done e.g with Japanese businesses - again adopt your son in law and give him your surname.

the thing about giving helm to the sons - is usually you would've had a whole lifetime to evaluate the candidate 20+ years. do mistakes happen yeah, but honestly the risk is overblown.

dzonga··on Replacing Pull Requests with Delta
for a lot of teams that do pair programming etc and pairing with agents - this makes sense.

hell dare I say better than the pull-request model - since you don't have to wait on people to review the code and deal with the nonsense of merge-trains.

dzonga··on Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chairman, Names Son to Replace Him
there's nothing wrong with leaving things to your kids to run.

that's the point of the effort after all.

warren as smart as he is was tryna go against the grain of thousands of human evolution. if you train your kids - then most likely they would've values similar to yours. hit or miss but most times a hit.

dzonga··on Astra for Law
open-ai have proven they can make good / decent models but business strategy is just spray and pray.

they need to pick a lane and optimize for it. coz at their size they can't serve the application layer (a.i startups who can fine-tune models will eat their lunch)

if they gonna do a consumer play - then go ham on that.

otherwise they're gonna get caught in the dreaded middle valley.

dzonga··on How GLM built its own inference infrastructure
very few people comprehend - how much of an asteroid level event for western AI labs this is.

china has cheap abundant power, now they can make their own inference chips (which was supposed to be a chokepoint), their models yeah can be 6 months behind the frontier - but most people don't need frontier models - small models r more than enough.

my only wish was labs like Mistral would make their own inference chips or partner up eg with established / new chip makers or companies like Oxide.

dzonga··on Xiaomi Mimo 2.6 live post-training dashboard
the open burial started when zAI served their latest model on all Chinese chips.

now we r just noticing the grave getting dug deeper.

dzonga··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
black swan events.

this is one of one of those things - were in the current era either a cloud provider should provide automatic backups in another geographic zone.

if you're in us-east, then your back-ups should ideally be in eu-west + africa for redundancy.

dzonga··on Java 27
yeah the performance, reliability & ecosystem of the JVM is unmatched.

if you gonna work in a big team or need a project with lots of devs then yeah go for the JVM.

but if you're doing things on the smaller / small scale side. - just use JS/TS or python. you benefit from cheap runtimes such as Cloudflare workers.

dzonga··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
people on the ground know that small models are enough, since llms are good at directed work (i.e handholding) not the let loose go wild that the labs try to hype on.

the only thing that few people are willing to admit is that humans are the bottleneck as humans are needed to handhold / verify output - which puts a dent or might I say pause on the excessive valuations of a.i companies as that's against the narrative.
