dzonga··on Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating?
AI assisted coding all the way.

for someone like me who doesn't like to write tests - I could easily have an agent write a test for me.

I could lay the bricks then also have the agent do ornamental design that I'm not good at.

dzonga··on Most people prefer traditional architecture
the tragedy is that architects (experts) prefer the modernist buildings. while common people prefer the classical buildings which makes cities more livable. the other tragedy is before 'regulations' normies designed buildings - they didn't have architecture degrees. don't know if that's still possible anymore.

& buildings shape lives.

the only way to reverse the modernist trend is to have laws that incentivize classical buildings otherwise we gonna keep getting ugly buildings.

dzonga··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
if she was eating sweet potatoes how can that be ? unless she wasn't eating the sweet potatoes at all ?
dzonga··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
I have a shitter account, I don't use the app but just the web app on safari iOS.

recently with videos I can't change playback speed. so I have to use xCancel.

before I just used to use Tweetdeck. but that went away or went pro.

dzonga··on Oracle’s 6am layoff emails hit staff amid new wave of cuts
oracle could've cruised nicely but nope greed and Larry Ellison's ego (add his son's too) - they bit off more than they can chew.
dzonga··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
this is a welcome ruling.

most of these search engine like companies including metasearch etc benefit from scrapping data on the onset, but then want to bring up TOS when they get scrapped.

in the age of agents - if your agent does work on your behalf on a particular site that should be legal.

dzonga··on Temporal raises $550M at a $12.55B valuation
btw does restate run on Cloudflare workers ?
dzonga··on Temporal raises $550M at a $12.55B valuation
in the age of agents, surely durable execution is a must.

but the money being raised - what is it for ? go to market ? sponsorship & I like that temporal sponsored Crystal Palace.

we've so many good durable execution engines.

this is the type of VC pollution that will cause companies to end up being acquired by an Italian silverware company (bending spoons).

dzonga··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
or underestimating the value of partnerships.

nike thought they were the storefront. reality and history proved otherwise.

dzonga··on Nvidia dismisses "circular financing", says every $1 it invests brings back $100
I'm not saying the bet is against Nvidia the company as in how it executes, or enters new markets.

the bet is against the high margins in inference - when other capable players have entered the market as models become commoditized and the inference serving chips as well. Cerebrus ai etc are already showing custom silicon can make a dent while being served cheaper & faster.

dzonga··on I spent $220 on Google app ads and 60% of the installs were robots
this is why people are going native / retail media. & some people i.e those with a lot of money are going to CTV as well.

search ads have negative ROI.

Facebook/Instagram & linkedIn work to a certain extent.

dzonga··on Nvidia dismisses "circular financing", says every $1 it invests brings back $100
80-90% of AI costs are related to inference. Once zAI served their new model entirely on Chinese chips for free then the nVidia jig is up.

who is going to pay back the money nVidia invests in AI labs, AI datacenter companies if the models are being served dirt cheap.

the Chinese are not the only competitor - Amazon with their Trainium, Google with their TPUs etc.

Nvidia might have a moat on training but on serving it's gonna be a blood bath.

But for now they're capturing 80% of all the AI spend so they gonna keep making money.

dzonga··on Ask HN: Did Google kill its enterprise workhorse model?
2.5 flash was also good to use with as the llm layer for voice products.

but google gonna google.

dzonga··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
the Houthis won't desert as they're fighting an ideological war vs the Saudi backed forces which are just mercenaries.

idealogical fighters fight to the death. & in almost every case besides the nazi's etc they always win. whether the ideology is right or wrong that's a conversation for a different day.

dzonga··on CIA Releases President's Daily Briefs in Commemoration of 9/11
what's worrying is they knew they were going after an operator whose organization they recognized as competent in terms of carrying out operations, recruiting and passing down information.

& they sat on it.

that's gross negligence honestly - if your adversary seems competent - you've to destroy them at the earliest chance before they amass more resources.

dzonga··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
that's my only gripe with deepseek honestly
dzonga··on Automattic's board forces CEO Matt Mullenweg into leave of absence
em-dash by Cloudflare looks interesting in terms of replacing Wordpress.

by garnering enough of an ecosystem to cause a migration will be the bigger challenge.

of course some people will say in the age of agents will people need to visit websites ;)

dzonga··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
in short they're TRUST networks.

which is also why crypto bros get confused.

dzonga··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
I agree. things like tailwind etc should come out as by-products of products making money.

react was not facebook's product. rails was not 37signal's product. Kubernetes was not google's product.

blaming AI is not facing the reality of how tech products / open source is financed in our industry.

dzonga··on iPhone Duo
for a first foldable iteration - apple has hit it out the park compared to other foldables on the market.

when the google & Samsung ones first came out they were plagued with problems.

but I think apple should've also had a foldable in the form of a razr ultra since they already have an iPhone air.

dzonga··on One decision put Ruby into a downward spiral. It's not too late to fix it
the issue is largely with the community not cz of UI libraries.

ruby is largely built around Rails. so when rails was hot & the trade-offs were worth it grew. now that Rails has a lot of controversy and not really worth then of course users dropped off.

within the JS community - the only two things that have a large market share are a express.js & React. but then again not everyone is forced into using them so even if the authors of React were racist or tryna be based - the market would largely move to other frameworks without blinking an eye.

with Rails - a lot of devs stayed away. & drained the new blood.

I love ruby by the way - such a fine expressive language.

dzonga··on Mistral raises €3B
I also think their business model is interesting in that they can also serve Chinese models e.g GLM and fine tune them for enterprises.

which is a market Chinese labs won't get into.

they only other company they compete with is probably palantir in that regard.

dzonga··on Doomscrolling ourselves to death
mass literacy without critical thinking begat communism - which had massive detrimental effects on the world.

maybe the elites like the journalists e.g author above - who wanna control thought & media - in a roundabout way unleashed a beast they can't control - social media - which turns people into passive consumers. now the people can't be controlled at all - massive apathy due to social media. Trump 2016, Brexit etc was the result.

dzonga··on AI, Tools and Transformation
systems of record & vertical integration wins time and time again.
dzonga··on If a Tesla Cybercab fleet were profitable, Tesla wouldn't sell you one
people r tryin' to equate this to a franchise model, some the amazon 3rd party model.

nope - this is just Elon raising money without going to the stock market or government but directly to Elon worshipping idiots.

he benefits two ways - interest free Capex, then higher stock prices by reporting higher number of cybercabs on the road. & guess who takes a punch to the mouth - the Elon worshippers.

with the amazon model | franchise models there's shared risk - not exactly equal but shared risk.

with Elon - one person is eating the risk, while one person eats 90% of the gains.

dzonga··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker
BillG discovering the negative effects of BigCo's not having a Directly Responsible Individual.

in the whole email thread - no one owns up to fix it - they're just passing the hot potato around.

26 years later - windows is still a mess.

dzonga··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
with wasm and v8 isolates -- the world should move away from containers.

you literally have a sandbox environment that behaves the same everywhere and is very performant.

but I guess people don't know shit anymore since they delegated thinking to 'llms'

dzonga··on Isar Aerospace reaches orbit and deploys payloads on second flight
congrats - this is massive. created in 2018 and already delivering payloads to space in 2026 - less than 10 years.
dzonga··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
to me the biggest event more than deepseek launch was when zAI served their latest model on all Chinese chips.
dzonga··on The Rust React Compiler is now native in Vite
rewrite it in rust might be a joke -- but damn most the massive improvements in dynamic language toolchains have come from the toolchains being rewritten in rust - Python, JS
