dvnguyen··on I am rich and have no idea what to do
I am interested in affordable housing. Is inefficient tech the biggest contributor to housing cost?
dvnguyen··on Show HN: Self-Host Next.js in Production
Gotcha. That means if I run Next for just frontend + server side rendering stuff then I can always self host it?

How about HA and horizontal scaling? I’ve heard that MySQL excels in that area.
dvnguyen··on Pixel owners report problems after installing January 2024 Google Play update
I don't see myself switching to an Android phone but iPhone updates do break things. Since upgrading to latest iOS, both my phone (personal and work) keyboards are unusable if I enable both English and Vietnamese keyboards. Looks like there's a bug in their keyboard prediction engine. It's been 4 months and I don't see they fix it yet.

dvnguyen··on Krunvm – Create MicroVMs from OCI Images
Ask HN: what workload is not suitable for microVMs? Can I use them like a regular VM?
dvnguyen··on Ask HN: Should I use my old computer instead of cloud?
What’s your best way to talk with you? I’m building a cost effective dev cloud vms that might fit your use case. It has a granular usage based metering and you’ll be charged almost nothing when the VM is idle.
dvnguyen··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
What did you do for marketing?
dvnguyen··on Apple turns monitor height adjustment into a $400 upsell
When something is ridiculously expensive, it’s usually because you’re not the target customer. I’m a programmer and my I’ve had hard times explaining to my wife why did I need a $300 keyboard. I guess no one here would complain about $300 mechanical keyboard.
dvnguyen··on Discord is a black hole for information
Shameless plug: I’m building a QA web app where you can easily create a QA server for your projects, and users can join your server with a click. Basically a stackexchange with Discord onboarding UX. Shoot me an email if you’re interested. My email is on my profile.
dvnguyen··on Amazon Pip Horror Story
Mind sharing your company name?
dvnguyen··on Let's Settle This
Same here. Do I need to get my eyes checked?
dvnguyen··on Amazon recruiter invites CTO of Azure to apply for SDE II
Ironically it’s highly likely that the CTO was recommended to the sources by a LinkedIn “AI”, a Microsoft company.
dvnguyen··on Higher quality audio makes people sound smarter
Folks using usb mics: how do you solve the keyboard noise problem? I use a mechanical keyboard and it’s super noisy.

Sample size of one: if I create a new sub Reddit or a FB community, it’s unlikely that making money from that community is my goal.
dvnguyen··on Element AI sold for $230M, as founders saw value mostly wiped out: document
Wow $200M funding for a startup with no products. Not even sure if they were serious in building a product or just cashing out the AI hype and academic credentials.
dvnguyen··on I sold Baremetrics
$500k is staff/principal level compensation at FAANG companies. No way mid-level engineers make as much.
dvnguyen··on Simple Made Easy (2011)
What is simplicity and how it differs from ease? I haven’t got a chance watching the talk yet.
dvnguyen··on Show HN: Query 1.6B rows in milliseconds, live
Ask HN: what’s the market for a new Database? Who do you build it for and how do you sell it? Asking as an uninformed users who haven’t needed a niche database.
dvnguyen··on My 2020 desk setup
To to fair i3 is so good that having multiple becomes unnecessary. It's much faster to open a second or third window in the same screen than looking up to the other screen.
dvnguyen··on I deploy, therefore I am
When number of deployments becomes an evaluation metrics, I can imagine an engineering culture like this:

- Dev rushes to make merge requests with the cost of thoughtful design and testing.

- Tension around code review turnaround time: how dare you take hours to review my code when I'm far behind in the leader board.

- Deployment has a bug? Awesome, now I'll have 2 deployments.

- Deploy faster and break everything.

Frequent and continuous deployment is good. Making it a metrics is bad.

dvnguyen··on Good writing is a business advantage
Thank you for the story. If I have a chance teaching coding, I'll definitely steal that assignment.
