dvduval··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
As I have watched places like x.com and Reddit it’s pretty clear to me there is some sort of weird propaganda thing going on promoting the Chinese models and casting shade on the big American models
dvduval··on I'm sorry, you're not going to die from an AI-engineered supervirus
That sounds like a good video game to spin up in Astra. Missile command was pretty cool. We didn’t destroy mankind with that one either.
dvduval··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
I think they’re gonna have to reach AGI before we’ll even be able to navigate the Facebook settings.
dvduval··on The ChatGPT/Codex app bundles a full copy of LibreOffice
My agent did it? I didn’t do it.
dvduval··on Boot a Virtual iPhone via Apple's Virtualization.framework
Will there ever be a day where I could run this on a PC or something like it?
dvduval··on "IT WoRKs BeTter in the App "
I don’t understand all the technical challenges, but I sure hope we can close the gap between what we can do in the browser versus an app. What apps do is gate communities and gate information and gate people and this is the opposite of an open Internet that should be a benefit to humanity.
dvduval··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
Party with power spends money. Party not in power complains too much money is being spent. Broken system. Those high interest rates ought to teach them pretty soon.
dvduval··on Grok 4.6
Criminal activity by which countries laws?
dvduval··on Someone is running mass vulnerability scans, spoofing AI bots like ClaudeBot
I don’t really have a reason to use WordPress anymore. I’m about halfway through switching my site over to something else that I can control with github and AI. Now these boats are mostly getting static files unless there’s a reason to show something else and even then the footprint is very small. There’s just not that much to hack.
dvduval··on Third Drone Shot Down in Three Days in Romanian Territory
The big part that I didn’t see was whether this was a Russian drone or Ukrainian drone
dvduval··on Does creatine make you smarter?
I don’t think they’re strong evidence that it does anything beyond helping you build muscle. There are some people say they think clearer, but I don’t think that’s been measured in any significant way.
dvduval··on Gemini 3.6 Flash
I find their models are pretty good for answering every day questions, and with their large user base, I’m sure they’re getting lots of usage.
dvduval··on Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber
It does seem like their releases are getting closer together. I get the feeling they realized they were trying to roll out to their entire ecosystem and now they’re focusing more just directly on the AI model itself. I think give it a little time and they’ll start to be one of the competitors too.
dvduval··on Kimi Work
The Chinese marketing blitz is on! Ha ha

Guess where the models are gonna be hosted? Hint, not China.

dvduval··on China's open-weights AI strategy is winning
Anybody can make a search engine too, but do we have them hosted on our home computer? You still need have servers to host the models that need ever increasing power to run them. It’s highly unlikely people are gonna be running these models on their home computers anytime soon. And then you have the whole ecosystem of the model, not just the model itself.
dvduval··on Codex Micro
Presentation is not clear to me. How is it superior to using my keyboard?
dvduval··on Building and shipping Mac and iOS apps without opening Xcode
What continues to bother me is just that developers who don’t have the budget are pretty much pushed out of iOS development because they can’t afford a Mac. And every time that Apple increases the price of their products, more people are blocked from being able to develop on them.
dvduval··on Morph Chess
If you move a pawn, it becomes a knight, knight becomes a bishop, etc. I’ve kind of enjoyed playing the computer. Give it a try if you like.
dvduval··on Cannabis users face substantially higher risk of heart attack (2025)
For me, cannabis causes anxiety, and it’s pretty well established that anybody with anxiety or bipolar or schizophrenia should not be using cannabis because it can make these much worse. I don’t suffer anxiety anymore, but there’s plenty of scientific evidence about the relationship between anxiety and cannabis use.
dvduval··on Qwen 3.6 27B is the sweet spot for local development
Absolutely for the average developer the token speed is just going to be too slow for it to be workable. I think we’re looking at 2028 when memory becomes cheaper again and they’ll be a lot more people using local models.
dvduval··on GLM 5.2 beats Claude in our benchmarks
If it’s not quite as good as the hype yet, I expect it probably will be in the near future. To do a lot of the primary coating tasks needed for most situations, it’s probably gonna be good enough if it isn’t ready. The harness will be there as well.
dvduval··on Anthropic updates their terms to verify age or identity
We’ve been in sort of a golden age where massive money is getting pulled in and consumers are getting a great deal. That’s not going to last, and surely surveillance and personal information are going to fit into the formula for success for these companies. It’s very similar to when Google was a brand new search engine.
dvduval··on Identity verification on Claude
So when the FBI comes to Claude, it will be that much easier now to track down exactly how they have been using the LLM. Maybe a political candidate for the opposing party has something embarrassing there for example.
dvduval··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
Part of the security risk also is the number of different models. I’ve been tempted to try some other models, but how many do I want to give access to SSH or even my repo? Obviously there are ways to work with this, but it’s gonna run through some people‘s heads.
dvduval··on Shift will clean homes for free to train future robots
It seems to me, they could train the bot to do most tasks like the laundry and vacuuming and dusting and so forth without needing a large sample of homes. And we have the situation where one robot can train all the others so you need the robot in the home not a human unless it’s just supervising the robot.
dvduval··on GitHub Actions down again today
Yes, Thais can be be really frustrating when you’re trying to get work done. There needs to be more competition and better alternatives and the LLMs need to offer easier connection to these alternatives.
dvduval··on Shipping a laptop to a refugee camp in Uganda
OK, that’s great, I don’t know the logistics part real well either but I think if we talk to her, we could work everything out. I also don’t know how to contact you but you’ll see if there is a domain name listed in my profile, and if you go to the info address for email on that domain, you can message me there and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. I was just talking to her just now and she said she would love to show her kids and teach them how to use it. She’s been here for I believe 12 years in the camp and came from Syria.
dvduval··on Shipping a laptop to a refugee camp in Uganda
I know a lady with four children who’s in a refugee camp in Jordan and could really use a laptop. It would allow her to teach language online and maybe get some side jobs and I think it could help her get out of the camp. If anybody has any ideas or wants to send her one please let me know.
dvduval··on AI is just unauthorised plagiarism at a bigger scale
The broader problem of original sources not being given credit in a way that rewards them remains. Websites owners are paying to host their content so that spiders can come and crawl them and index it into the AI and then if they’re lucky, they might get a citation, but otherwise there’s very little reward for being a provider of content. And of course, this is something that’s getting worse and worse. Why look at a website when it’s all in AI? And then the counter to that is maybe we need to start closing the website to crawlers and put everything behind a login.
dvduval··on GitLab Announces Workforce Reduction and End of Their CREDIT Values
I recently switched everything from bitbucket to GitHub mostly just because GitHub is more integrated with the AI tools I use. I feel like they’re probably still pretty big in Europe, but they’re losing in some markets more than before.
