dutchmartin··on Ask HN: What are the best computing resources for children?
Cool resources are great, but I think kids just want to have fun, which I as a kid did that by building websites, programming games and fiddling around with electronics. So buy a Lego mindstorms or build a circuit with transistors.
dutchmartin··on Penetration testing and low-cost freelancing
The only thing this article proves yet again is: if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. I mean, 100 dollar is maybe enough for 2 hours of a freelancers time. But I do not think that is enough time to find both issues and scan the server.
dutchmartin··on UK passport photo checker shows bias against dark-skinned women
This looks oddly familiar to the medical field. There they often only test on men (1). Do here we see the classic example of not having tested the product on all possible clients. Also, if they had known about this flaw, they probably had been able to build a submit for manual review option.

dutchmartin··on Benchmarking static website hosting providers
I also looked into removing Cloudflare from my github pages hosted website, but I need IPV6 support, and github pages doesn’t have that (1). Cloudflare proxies those requests to IPV4 so my website is accessible to everyone in the world.

dutchmartin··on Stripe's Political Correctness
As a European, I find it weird seeing how polarized the entire political system of the USA is. It looks almost like there are 2 religions that do not like each other on all levels. I think politics should be about making laws that make society a better place, but with a two party system only one can have the majority and thus it evens looks undemocratic to me.
dutchmartin··on Suicide Linux (2009)
It depends on culture. HN has a lot of different nationalities writing comments. Cultures differ. Like i as a Dutch person can openly disagree on things my boss or other people say, but in other parts of the world this may not be the norm. Also note that some comments may be misplaced because of non native english speakers posting here.
dutchmartin··on Cloudflare keeps sending emails over a year after account was cancelled
I’ve had this like 3 times already. You had to mail customer support for data deletion, and after that, you got a mail with ‘are you satisfied with our help?’. Well hell no, because you still store my email adress.
dutchmartin··on Logic board with 20 USB3 ports
I could see this used for livestreams where you have a lot of cameras to connect. The 3 independent video outputs also make this great for a multi monitor setup.
dutchmartin··on Ask HN: Resources to encourage teen on becoming computer engineer?
Any simple 2D game maker or software library with YouTube tutorials should get a teenager started. As a teenager, I found it cool to program something and then enjoy the fruits of my work by playing my own game. HTML canvas and JavaScript is enough to get started for example.
dutchmartin··on How I bypassed Cloudflare's SQL Injection filter
It is not. The Dutch government also sends T-shirts to hackers that disclosed a security vulnerability[0].

dutchmartin··on The sad state of PDF-Accessibility of LaTex Documents (2016)
Well, LaTeX is great for mathematical symbols. I have not seen a typesetting in the web space that can compare itself to LaTeX. This is why scientists from the exact sciences use it.
dutchmartin··on FTC Is Investigating Intuit over TurboTax Practices
Almost the same for the Netherlands, we could do that from 1996 [1].

dutchmartin··on Show HN: Healthcare Is Dumb
It is sad indeed, but I guess no manager wants to change things not be responsible for changes that fail.
dutchmartin··on Belgian experts 'shocked' as AstraZeneca seeks liability waiver for vaccine
It could be a cover up for something that is wrong, but maybe they do this to compensate on the shortened testing. Because longer testing on patients reduce the risk on unknown side effects. They obviously do not want to carry that risk and thus we here see the result.
dutchmartin··on Ketamine that's injected during arrests draws new scrutiny
I have no clue, the first time I read about ketamine was in a article [1] about upcoming partydrugs in The Netherlands. In that article they mention that ketamine is generally used as a anesthetic for horses. But having things done to your body while you cannot decide about that is just horrible and should be banned.

dutchmartin··on Ghost.org deleted my website
Well, letting customers spend money on their platform earns them money
dutchmartin··on Dear Google Cloud: Your Deprecation Policy Is Killing You
I strongly feel that you must have end to end tests while using node because of the dependency hell. Not even knowing if a upgrade of a dependency breaks your system is just hard. Also testing it by hand is just not maintainable.
dutchmartin··on A Database of Historical Cookbooks
Sounds like a great idea to start a museum (exhibition) with. You could make a 50’s restaurant with various food offerings that were popular then.
dutchmartin··on Thank You MDN
Maybe that’s why c level employees should be compensated on reaching certain targets, rather than getting at least a million a year. Because, if you are the captain of a schip, you should drown with it if it capsized.
dutchmartin··on Apple takes legal action against small company with pear logo
Just common sense laws about who pays the legal fees in cases where it is a small entity against the Goliath. Here in the Nederlands, the loser of the lawsuit pays for the legal fees of the winner. This makes sure that someone who files lawsuits that are doomed at the start will think twice about that because it will cost them a lot of money.
dutchmartin··on Greg Joswiak replaces Phil Schiller as head of Apple marketing
Phill became 60 years old, this step is just him taking a smaller role while he can educate his replacement until he decides to retire (which is certainly financially possible for him to do after he becomes 65).
dutchmartin··on Show HN: UUIDs that are Shakespearean, grammatically correct sentences
Interesting project. Getting a reading in radio spelling is easy to do. But getting correct sentences out of a random predefined length string is way harder.
dutchmartin··on Rust on the ESP32 (2019)
There are crates for that [1]. But if you are new to rust and embedded, I would recommend to read through the rust embedded book [2] and practice with the stm32 board.

dutchmartin··on Has GitHub been down more since its acquisition by Microsoft?
Well, Github introduced way more new features since Microsoft took over.
dutchmartin··on RusTLS Formal Audit [pdf]
They do, they mention it in the third paragraph of the introduction.
