dude3··on Zenefits confirms 250 layoffs, 17% of company workforce
I think that's great you caught on to that. I used to work for a British company and they used the same lingo. Thought it sounded a little harsh at the time.
dude3··on Congress has added CISA to the federal budget bill
This is interesting too

dude3··on Alex Stamos to Become CSO of Facebook
I kind of disagree Facebook is a good force. I have noticed that I am getting really heavily tracked and re-targeted on their service now. I don't like using it any more. Your literally giving a mega corporation all your most private information. They have paired up publicly with Acxiom and many other data brokers which mine your credit card data and associate it with your facebook profile. It makes you wonder what they do in private. They definitely need a good security team to keep their secrets secret. Congrats on the role.
dude3··on Space X CR6 First stage landing
It looks like the main engines didn't cut quick enough.
dude3··on I won't be using Angular for my next project
I just started using ngReact https://github.com/davidchang/ngReact. I replaced the main ng repeaters in the app with react jsx lists and the performance improvements are noticeable even on lists that are not long (15 items) with lots of ng binds. This needs to be built into angular by default period and the integration could be improved significantly. Also filters are horribly slow and need to be fixed or not used in views at all.
dude3··on California Goes Nuts
Exactly. No high speed train ($68 billion) for now. More desalination plants and irrigation.
dude3··on Fuck It, I'm Going Back to Firefox
translate3d and CSS3 animations just run much faster on chrome. Javascript is also faster on chrome. That's why I use chrome. Newer versions of firefox are getting better tho. The debugger on firefox is sub par compared to the on chrome for complex applications.
dude3··on Immigration is about talent, not costs
Last month I was ridding in an Uber and the driver told me he was a Math Teacher. He said that all his students wanted to do was code all day long. He asked me if I wanted to come into class and just tell the kids about my job etc., they would "love that".

I was thinking to myself. Here is a math teacher in the middle of Silicon Valley asking me (no one special by any means) to come in and talk to the kids. Why don't other companies and CEO's currently do the same? Given the dire problem that they claim there is, they should be out there getting kids interested in these jobs. Some of these kids could be working in 2 years (probably before any legislation would actually go through). Bring them to the Facebook or Google offices and get them interested and motivated. Finally, ensure that they can actually have at least a median paying job in the field.

I think we should look at coding like vocational schools. You see all those programs about getting a degree to repair cars. What about getting degrees to do QA and code? It works in Germany very well, especially for kids who don't go to college. According to the math teacher, the demand and interest is there. So why don't we do something for the future generations rather than look for a short term fix?

dude3··on Immigration is about talent, not costs
True, but lawyers have the American bar associations, unlike programmers, that keep competition low. Doctors have the similar American Medical Association.
dude3··on Immigration is about talent, not costs
A blanket statement like that simply isn't true. I can look in several tech offices and draw conclusions. Are there exceptions, sure. Therefore, H1B should be reserved for the talent you speak of. Why are we bringing QA engineers on H1B? We can train a large portion of these jobs here through programs like Hack Reactor. But we aren't, we are looking for simple fixes.

dude3··on Firebase is Joining Google
The project in which I implemented this toolset is working great and it only took me one weekend to implement too. I am not saying Firebase is inferior at all.

Just, for my situation, I am not sure why I need to pay for that functionality when I can literally set it up in one day vs reading the documentation on how to set it up on Firebase in the same time.

I also control all outcomes and avoid ones like this where Google could potentially take over control of a large portion of your app.

My server side code is about 100 lines. This controls a chat server, chat rooms, youtube video commands. And its currently working just fine with 4,000 visitors a day on a vps that cost $5 a month.

Why not learn how to do it yourself? Especially if you already have vps. I am using varnish with multiple sites and it took a couple hours to set up. I am really confused on this.

dude3··on Yahoo Hacked
Interesting I saw the Y debug tool on sports.yahoo.com . It said Y Confidential and had a web bug on it and something else in red. Also, was on the yahoo.com root domain. I saw this over a few days. Did anyone else see it? I couldn't click on anything and it was on the lower right hand corner of the screen.
dude3··on Mobile Web App Checklist
One thing to add. If using iOS, use png backgrounds and images vs jpg. Even though they have a larger file size, you will see a MASSIVE performance increase on iPhone (night and day on old iphone 4's and 4s). You can even use PNG 24 but preferably PNG 8.
dude3··on What Happened to U.S. Plans to Raise the H-1B Visa Ceiling?
First, read this post and understand. If there was a true shortage, wages would be increasing.

dude3··on iPhone 6 and Android value
Apple needs to publish SunSpider Javascript and other real world browser benchmarks. The new A8 is going to be much faster than a 2.7 805 in the Note 4. The iPhone is actually a great deal when you consider performance.

For show and press. Microsoft was the first company to cave in giving the NSA total unrestricted access to user information.

dude3··on Why you might not want to incorporate in the USA
Denmark's defense budget is really small 3.2 % of government spending vs 18.2% for the United States. Therefore, Denmark has much more cash to spend and is a richer nation relying on US for defense.

dude3··on Target stores hit by data breach affecting 40 million cards
The funny thing is the day that this was happening they were trying to sign me up for their checking account program. Where I give them my checking account info and I save 5% on every purchase. They gave me the hard sell too and wouldn't quit. I then conveniently typed in my pin so I'm f'd.
dude3··on My sister's a quilter and Google mugged her
Google just plain hates exact match now in my experience. You have to build up solid reputation to get out of the exact match sort of penalty. I think they think exact match is generally spammy and elevates the spam filter. Some other factors in an algo update probably got more weight that the site was affected by and pushed the site over the edge. I tend not to change anything right away when this happens. Wait a bit and see if it corrects. Then make small iterative SEO changes and throw some youtube videos on your site that you produced. Another good strategy, and I've seen a bunch, is to change the domain name. Only do that in last resort. Watch how often googlebot accesses your site and try to increase frequency too.
dude3··on An effective eye drug is $50, but many doctors choose a $2,000 alternative
The Post conveniently left out that the Pharm company found that "Avastin patients had a 30% higher risk of serious systemic side effects than Lucentis patients did". Why didn't they include the Pharm company's side?
