They mentioned paper trading which means it isn't using actual money.

duck··on Bob and Van
It is still like this in most neighborhoods in the US, but it does require being outside and actually talking to them... which does seem rarer today.

duck··on Dolly Parton has died
Yeah, it is such an amazing program that was just executed in the right way. She didn't see it hit the billion books like she wanted to in her lifetime, but I'm sure they will get there. I would love to know other examples of philanthropy like that are similar in impact?

duck··on California leaders report four to six weeks worth of gasoline and diesel supply
True, but the gas blend requirement is state wide which I think was the point being made.
duck··on Some Words on WigglyPaint
I think it was actually just a straight mobile clone as I see "WigglyPaint" in the screenshots and the original Android app was called WigglyPaint as well based on the url (/apps/details?id=io.wigglypaint.android). Probably got more popular than they were expecting and decided to pivot a bit.
duck··on Show HN: I made paperboat.website, a platform for friends and creativity
Congrats on the launch! I love ideas like this, but curious how this is different than https://bearblog.dev which has been around for a while?
duck··on Elon Musk – "In 36 months, the cheapest place to put AI will be space" [video]
I can't believe they talked to Elon for almost 3 hours and didn't ask about the GPU heat exchange issue with data centers in space.
duck··on Employers, please use postmarked letters for job applications (2025)
What was the "additional effort" you've had to do before?
duck··on Reading across books with Claude Code
Discussed earlier this week: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46567400
duck··on Ask HN: Share your personal website
Happy 50th birthday!
duck··on T-Ruby is Ruby with syntax for types
Yeah, I think it would be great if this project made it clear how this compares with Crystal in terms of the syntax.

duck··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2025 – Show and tell
Yeah, just sponsors. I hope to use it as an outlet for other projects in the near future.

duck··on Benjie's Humanoid Olympic Games
Most humans would be hard pressed to get a gold medal in this one.
duck··on F-35 pilot held 50-minute airborne conference call with engineers before crash
The one piece of good news is the highest point in Florida is just 345 feet above sea level so I think they'll be okay. :)
duck··on The value of hitting the HN front page
That was from my newsletter: https://hackernewsletter.com/. :)

Here was the issue: https://mailchi.mp/hackernewsletter/672

duck··on Brut: A New Web Framework for Ruby
Another option is https://roda.jeremyevans.net/, which I've found is the sweet spot in smaller projects, but can still scale up. The plugin system works really well to extend and the routing tree is really easy to work with.
duck··on AI jobs danger: Sleepwalking into a white-collar bloodbath

I've been using https://github.com/sissbruecker/linkding and highly recommend it.
duck··on If nothing is curated, how do we find things
Thanks for the HNL mention and nice job with The Gaming Pub!
duck··on Why are there no thunderstorms in the UK?
Very rare in the PNW (or at least Washington) and Alaska. Thankful for that as the chances of a fire starting from them seems high. Last summer we only had one lighting "storm" which had a total two lighting strikes and one of them started a fire.
duck··on Meetings Won't Be the Same When the CEO Sends an AI Bot

duck··on Stoop Coffee: A simple idea transformed my neighborhood
100% agree! We had moved to a smaller community in New England and was eating an early dinner when we got a single knock on the door. Before we could get up, the UPS driver opened our door to place the packages inside (and out of the snow). He waved and welcomed us and then off we went. It was a bit odd, but then we realized this was a special place that we would come to love and we did.
duck··on Leaked VA memo calls for up to 83,000 layoffs to reduce workforce to 2019 levels
Looking at this the other day and found this helpful: https://www.pgpf.org/article/the-federal-government-has-borr...
duck··on Why kids need to take more risks: science reveal benefits of wild, free play
I worked with a Canadian about 10 years ago that broke his arm while visiting family in Winnipeg during Christmas. He waited 2 or maybe 3 full days to have it set and get a cast with no luck in seeing a doctor and finally drove across the border to have it done in the US. He was 60 or so and when he didn't even seem upset at that happening! That really opened my eyes on "free" healthcare.
