dserodio··on Google Bans Disconnect.me from Play Store
Because developing for the alternatives (Firefox OS and Ubuntu Touch) don't allow people to make a living.
dserodio··on Google Bans Disconnect.me from Play Store
That's seriously messed up. There are tons of adblockers on the Play Store, why has Disconnect Mobile been singled out?

BTW, I'm currently using Freedome which from what I understand is very similar to Disconnect Mobile

dserodio··on HTTPS as a ranking signal
This is _exactly_ the kind of thing that only a player as heavy as Google can kickstart.

We need to "reset the net", encrypt everything possible, and Google's help is more then welcome.

dserodio··on HTTPS as a ranking signal
Why? The crypto is just as strong with a self-signed cert as a "name brand" cert. The only downside is teaching users to ignore SSL errors, which is bad.
dserodio··on HTTPS as a ranking signal
> available for less than 10 USD if you don't care about it's quality

A cert with a larger key is better than one with a smaller key, but other than that, what's the "quality" of a SSL certificate?

I'm glad they haven't added this creepy feature to Android yet
dserodio··on Mitro Releases a New Free and Open Source Password Manager
Apparently, it's just been open sourced but it's not a new project
dserodio··on Mitro Releases a New Free and Open Source Password Manager
Because it's open source, so it will be easier to audit, and probably because of the UI (Lastpass UI got a lot better in the latest releases, but still sucks).

AFAIK, the mobile apps only listen to the microphone when the app is open, not in the background

dserodio··on 19-year-old hacker reveals how he rigged voting machines and election in Brazil
Yeah, but the stories may be much more uncommon not because it's safer, but because electronic fraud is much easier to conceal then physical fraud.
dserodio··on Motorola cell phones are regularly phoning home
With unencrypted communication, any insecure Wifi network is enough to "leak" your information, it's much worse then "only" Google/NSA/etc having access to it.
dserodio··on Google Abandons Open Standards for Instant Messaging
I'm not so optimistic. If their intention was to open and publish the protocol and specs, they'd announce this intention and avoid (or at least minimize) this PR backlash.

dserodio··on 80 chars per line is great
> At Google, our Python style guide dictates 80 characters with 2 character indenting

The style guide you linked to says indents are 4 spaces. I sense the question of indent size hasn't been solved at Google yet :-) I find 2 to be too little, except for XML and HTML which are naturally indented many levels and there's no way to refactor into new functions or methods.

dserodio··on Application process energy consumption monitoring?
It's basically CPU + (disk) I/O + Wifi, but I think it would be a great feature. Android phones have battery usage monitor.

dserodio··on Coursera's Functional Programming - Cheating Discovered
Searching Github for assignments is pretty easy, but I wonder how they'd be able to detect duplicates other then when every source is 100% equal to another student's.
dserodio··on Why iOS 6 Just Turned Your iPad 1G Into a Paperweight
Android device's lifecycle is worse then iPhones: I replaced my (almost 2 years old) HTC Desire because it was stuck running Android 2.3.4 - thanks to Cyanogenmod, otherwise it would have an even older OS - which means security vulnerabilities like the recently found USSD "remote wipe by visiting a website" are exploitable.
