dschep··on What's new in TeX
> I do think that TeX & LaTeX are close to a local maximum, if not al the way there.

Funny you say that since TeX's version scheme (in part) is that it approaches pi. And IIRC will be pi upon Knuth's death.

dschep··on Guix-tox, a functional version of tox
AFAICT tox the python testing/virtualenv tool predates Tox the chat tool.
dschep··on Netflix Switch – dim lights, turn on the TV, order food, and silence your phone
The silence your phone step[1] is much easier if you use something like Tasker[2].

dschep··on Bye-bye blackboard
I've even found that to be the case before digitization. Everyone else switched to white(dry erease)boards. Mathematicians just love chalk.
dschep··on How I Hacked Amazon’s $5 WiFi Button
No need for Tasker: http://apps.getpebble.com/en_US/application/55123f98e28a6598...
dschep··on How I Hacked Amazon’s $5 WiFi Button
There was a 3rd party app(pushbutton) that got pulled (upon request by IFTTT).

You can still implement this yourself using http://apps.getpebble.com/en_US/application/55123f98e28a6598... and the IFTTT Maker Channel ;)

dschep··on Show HN: CSS Filter Effects
Firefox behaves the same way AFAICT. http://i.imgur.com/YCygCb7.png

dschep··on Intent to deprecate: Insecure HTTP
Chrome already blocks self signed certs out of the box.
dschep··on Firefox.html: Rebuilding Firefox UI in HTML
What about this (using HTML instead of XUL) would make it less customizable? If anything, it's at least more accessibly customizable because more of us know HTML than know XUL.

Also, I imagine if this truly the way forward, XUL will be removed from the FF code base, thus making a XUL based Pale Moon trickier since it would be so different from upstream at that point.

dschep··on Python 2.x vs. 3.x use survey
AFAIK -mvenv is still kaput in Ubuntu. I just this instead:

    sudo apt-get install python-virtualenv python3
    virtualenv -p/usr/bin/python3 <venv>
Yes, it'd be way cooler if -mvenv wasn't crippled in Ubuntu, but this still works fine.
dschep··on Skeleton 2.0 CSS Framework
Agreed. FYI it's MIT https://github.com/dhg/Skeleton#license
dschep··on Firefox Developer Edition
Oh, didn't realize that. I got it from FF directly for now, but was hoping there'd be an easier way to install it.
dschep··on Firefox Developer Edition
Will https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ubuntu/... switch to this new build or will there be a new PPA for Firefox Developer Edition?
dschep··on ITerm2 2.0
Fish is a shell & iTerm is a terminal emulator. Just use them together. Or am I missing something?
dschep··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
Any chance of jsonp or CORS for reading the data. It'd allow for statically hosted frontends that consume a feed.

Edit: nm. Added ?callback=foo and saw it's already supported!

dschep··on Hydra: A lightweight OS X window manager with a powerful API
I also miss awesome, and xnomad wasn't cutting it. Hopefully Amethyst is what I need.
dschep··on Introducing Swift
But without the NumPy/SciPy/etc. ecosystem?
dschep··on Humble Indie Bundle 9 released
Mark of the Ninja is an awesome game, well worth whatever you chose to pay for a bundle.
dschep··on Why I'm saying goodbye to Dropbox and hello to SpiderOak Hive
Any chance of a Linux client?
dschep··on Humble Comedy Bundle
K, thanks. I've definitely heard excellent thing about Live (mostly via NPR.)
dschep··on Humble Comedy Bundle
I've already bought Louis CK's show directly from his site. Is the beat the avg worth it for the Patrice O'Neal shows?
dschep··on Don't Get Pwned on Public WiFi: Use Your Own VPN
It was (and still is, IIRC) a CM feature.
dschep··on Don't Get Pwned on Public WiFi: Use Your Own VPN
Simpler, more vpn-like solution can be done via Sshuttle[0] or (albeit less simple afaict) with `ssh -w local_tun[:remote_tun]`

dschep··on ZTE Open Firefox OS phone is available on eBay
IIRC it uses a micro SIM.
dschep··on AnsibleWorks Raises $6M
I really want to use ansible (currently using salt), but I'm still waiting for the apt_repository pr[0] to get merged.

dschep··on Jimmy Wales: This is super cool. "I started to learn python..."
Click through. He's commenting on a 13 yr old learning Python.
dschep··on Wine 1.6 Released With 10,000 Changes
Change the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx option in about:config to deal with the zoom/dpi issue.
dschep··on Ansible Simply Kicks Ass
Awesome! Might be switching from Salt soon. I _really_ like that I can just pip install it.
