droque··on Gcsfuse: A user-space file system for interacting with Google Cloud Storage
I don't think it is, instead each operation makes a request. You can use something like catfs https://github.com/kahing/catfs
droque··on Hiring Hurdle: Finding Workers Who Can Pass a Drug Test
Probably something like the FBI http://motherboard.vice.com/read/the-fbi-cant-find-hackers-t...
droque··on Show HN: Restdb.io – a plug and play database service
There's also PostgREST https://github.com/begriffs/postgrest
droque··on Why There Is No Hitchhiker’s Guide to Mathematics for Programmers
Some concepts can't be understood by drawing an analogy to an already known object. For example, the famous "a Monad is a Burrito" (non)explanation.
droque··on A Small, Nice Thing
You could also go all the way and declare a Num a => Num [a] typeclass, with (+) = zipWith (+).
droque··on Show HN: TensorFlow for AWS on a Real GPU
I tried with the Oregon region and it failed. I changed to the N. California region and it worked. (No comment about the GPU though.)
droque··on Why 5 x 3 = 5 and 5 and 5 Was Marked Wrong
It's pretty obvious the kid is incorrect because 5*3 is using the sum monoid and overloading notation.

Or at least that would make more sense than arguing the kid is wrong via Javascript and matrices.

droque··on Academic publishers reap huge profits as libraries go broke
Tim Gowers (and several other mathematicians) called to boycott academic publishers with The Cost of Knowledge (http://thecostofknowledge.com/), giving largely similar reasons. It had some success if I recall correctly.
droque··on How it feels to join an all-Haskell startup
The change they made was from a monad to an applicative, which is less "hands on", thus preferred. Kind of preferring map over hand-written loops. (Although the golfing is definitively there and in the community, see pointfree/pointless style https://wiki.haskell.org/Pointfree)
droque··on A beauty contest winner making Japan look at itself
While it means mixed, at least in Mexico the concept carries a different connotation. Rather than being an outsider, it's the national identity. See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaza_de_las_Tres_Culturas
droque··on In Silicon Valley, stories about failure are a form of social currency
It's similar in Mexico. It’s not a coincidence that FuckUp Nights started there. It’s a very traditionalist and failure averse country, so that “making it” means being a manager in a good position in an old monopoly, even in entrepreneurial circles (even then, is limited to family-sized stable business). (It also helps that the upper-middle class in Mexico imitates american ways of life). So it’s an antidote for that location.
droque··on It’s Comcastic, Or: I Accidentally Bought a House Without Cable
Seems to me that there could be a big market for an AirHelp-like service that focused on telecoms. A private, for-profit consumer protection company.
droque··on Show HN: The remaining unregistered one-word .com domains
The majority of them seem to be verbs.
droque··on A Scholarly Markdown
The way I see it, the main feature is being able to plug math formulas in, rather than formatting documents. It allows you to focus on your content (one feature of Markdown) while still being able to write mathematics.
droque··on The Man Who Tried to Redeem the World with Logic
I've taught in (Mexican) state programs for gifted youth and I can testify that a lot of the kids (many of them poor or almost) end up wasting their potential and having hard times, monetary wise. Meanwhile, significantly less hard working and less bright kids from private schools go on and get comfortable jobs.

A local think tank (http://pipe.cide.edu/talento-en-mexico) calculated the economical implications of not developing this talent. According to their model, on a 40 year span, developing it would give a 132% increase in the GDP per capita in comparison with staying at current levels.

droque··on Email Encryption Software Relies on One Guy, Who Is Going Broke
I wonder if a patreon-like (or even patreon itself) would be more effective raising donations than just one-time donations. I know enough people that swear by gpg, so it doesn't strikes me as hard finding a base.
droque··on Google Code Jam – Contest scoreboard
I think it is a feat to practice to the point of having seen thousands of problems and still know (or have a felling of) the way to go.

(Actually, most of the good sport coders that I know develop that knack of knowing where the solution is headed, without pinpointing a previous problem)
