drl42··on Neo is your own bot who attends team meetings for you
There are many startups in this area - Including the one that I am working on :) I would love to understand your particular use case, but we have typically seen that users do not want to pay to record, transcribe and generate summarized notes for internal meetings.
drl42··on Ask HN: Using non-dominant hand for mouse and dominant for note taking?
You can get a split keyboard (eg Kinesis Freestyle 2) and put a notepad in between.
drl42··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
The government has become pretty smart - their standard rates have increased quite a bit (since they lose tax revenue) Secondly, I don't think people are going to touch the old notes - just too much risk involved.

Infact, I would speculate that since a lot of black money is now worthless, we might see rates go down, especially for new constructions

drl42··on India's demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes
They are introducing new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes and they are going to control the circulation of these new notes

drl42··on Ask HN: Is there a “technological solution” to the Kashmir problem?
Paradoxically, water is one area where there is agreement between the two countries. I wish it were just an issue of water or agriculture!
drl42··on Ask HN: Is there a “technological solution” to the Kashmir problem?
You can find a good analysis of this problem from a Game Theory perspective by listening to Professor C. Christine Fair. She has written a couple of books, and you can find her talks on Youtube.

drl42··on More Than 40% of Student Borrowers Aren’t Making Payments
Depends upon the university, if it is publicly funded or not. Tuition for private universities ranges from $1000-$10000 per year. Public universities - Less than $1000 per year, in many cases no tuition.
drl42··on HTTP/2 Protocol for iOS Push Notifications
My guess is that they tie everything to the certificates used for signing up the App

drl42··on How do you document what you are learning at work?
Mindmaps, with notes. Allows you to organize the information in a visual hierarchy, so that you can quickly refer back to the notes. I use Freemind[1], an open source tool.

drl42··on Ask HN: Worth working on a project that you have no direct relationship with?
If the idea is a B2C kind of business - Run a facebook ad campaign with the target audience. You can direct them to a landing page and collect email addresses/ other details. Facebook pretty much has a global reach, so you should get some validation points.

For more of B2B ideas - You are better off talking to people directly. Mine you network. Look for conferences, meetups, tradeshows where you might find your audience

drl42··on Ask HN: Any open source alternatives to intercom.io?
For Live chat, there are a couple of options like LiveHelperChat/Livezilla. In the end, I ended up using Olark, since I didn't want to maintain one more service.

For support - It really depends upon your use case and volume. One non-open source alternative is Google Groups - You can configure a Google Group as a Collaborative inbox

drl42··on Ask HN: Any open source alternatives to intercom.io?
Serious question: What would you be willing to pay for Intercom? Which features would you use the most?

Intercom is a cross between a CRM, Marketing Automation, Support and Live chat. There are open source alternatives for each of these product lines

drl42··on In India, TinyOwl Founder Detained for 2 Days by Laid-Off Employees and the Police
This is in the context of a labor dispute. This is a tactic known as "gherao" or a Lock-in (vs a Lock-out) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockout_%28industry%29#Lock-in
drl42··on Ask HN: Mobile Data: On-Device Only or Remote API?
Another approach would be to use the Backup API's provided by Google/Apple. http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/backup.html
drl42··on Ask HN: OS X/Linux: Which helps to decrease mouse usage/increase productivity?
Here are my thoughts on this - After emacs and shell, I typically spend time using the browser. I am thinking of trying out Conkeror[1] to minimize my use of the mouse.

[1] http://conkeror.org/

drl42··on Ask HN: OS X/Linux: Which helps to decrease mouse usage/increase productivity?
Master emacs & shell. You can achieve a high level of productivity if you can get into the flow. Of course, this requires more training and you will be slow initially, but over time, it helps.
drl42··on Choosing a Web Framework: Django, Flask, or Pyramid
I think that Django actually has very little "magic", given the functionality that it provides. With respect to the ORM - For standard CRUD stuff, I think the ORM just works.

With respect to "Will someone else understand the code" - Having trained few engineers to use Django, the main issue always has been correct decomposition of the entire webapp into different submodules or Django "apps" - If the project has been properly modularized, then it is easy to find problems or add functionality.

In short, imho writing good serviceable code does not depend upon the framework - it depends upon the team :)
