Ok - aside from lets agree to disagree, im not equating the content are the same.

I am equating the manner pf discourse and conversation flow.

Its rather disingenuous of you to think people are claiming racism violence and child pornography here.

Besides, 4channel is now heavily modded to be sfw since it has been acquired from moot and the owner is trying to drive ad revenue.

It isnt 2008 - and please again, stop passing opinion as fact chris granger. I expect greater from hn posters.

I get some solid content here, but to downvote on disagreement and then ignote2a genuine attempt to exchange ideas is discomforting to see.

I dont anticipate you to understand and i thoroughly expect this to simply be downvoted.

drharby··on Who's Behind Huawei?
Because huawei is chinese.

It would make sense from a media perspective as they are trying to drive attention and thus eyeballs, and xenophobia sells page views

drharby··on Hackers News Is a Toxic Place
1 - i agree with that sentiment

2 - your comment is exactly why.

Let me explain, first you express your opinion as a matter of fact. Their opinion is nonsense? Why not pose a question as to why one may think that? Consider the culture of 4chans various boards and some of the herd mentality you see on hn.

I can tangibly see on a daily basis trite comments which add nothing of value be upvoted because it expresses commonly held approved opinions (ie. Anti amazon comments or issues with nimbys in sf)

However someone echo a concern about the importance of us military intelligence infrastructure by virtue of supporting msft contracts with the us military, someone is downvoted as a warmonger with little discussion.

The shitposts are real randy

drharby··on DHS, FBI say election systems in all 50 states were targeted in 2016
It begs asking at which election would this matter spring to true light. The last election was so crowded with attention baiting headlines that the real conversation wasnt had.

Then again, in the bush election the judiciary decided floridas votes and not a peep was heard. American poltical machinery is far from perfect

With all due respect, that appeal to pity only weakens the argument of his post is read from a persuasive writing perspective. However, in viewing this post in an exchange of ideas, it carries necessary information. OP cites the unpopularity not as an appeal to pity but as an expression of ideas. To require all posts adhere to a framework of persuasion is unnecessary speech censorship.
drharby··on First government survey of hikikomori
Right? Diversity in aspiration and life experience tends to be tolerated iff its within a publicly accepted manner.

The man living happily wired into the net meeting his financial obligations and not breaking any law is fine in my eyes.

Sometimes the net is preferable to the available versions of meatspace

I fear your military stat is inaccurate and taken out of context, making it meaningless for any inference on this matter.

Military population jas a selection bias for people with high thresholds of tolerance for difficult tasks amd by end of training usually have otjer confounding factors affecting their graduation, ie. Ptsd, lack of purpose, loss of fraternity, etc.

drharby··on How to pass a programming interview (2016)
I view it as industry moving the marker higher and higher for cult and loyalty marks and seeing if they get a steady manpower influx inline with their needs.

Jokes on them when they stop getting good devs and start getting good shortterm greedy puzzle solvers.

drharby··on Google employees can’t just walk away from ethical tradeoffs like Dragonfly
Ethical is nonstandard between people. It isn't so clearcut. Barring the whole 'investors, stockholders, etc. Fiduciary responsobolities' Its less about tech and more about business ethics needing a cleanup via legislation.

People think all debt is bad.

A mortgage is leverage. Exclude that from typicle debt.

Bad debt is anything nontaxdeductible and over riskfree rate. So consumer debt
