drewwwwww··on Petty Thieves Plague San Francisco. ‘These Last Two Years Have Been Insane.’
when the collective no longer seems interested in providing basic guarantees, the individuals will turn on each other. not because of a moral failing, but rather morality is a function of incentives.

the sf city government is a failed-state kleptocracy beholden to the inertia of the political machine and rich landowners who shortsightedly vote against their own interests, in a massive region with no regional governance, in a state kneecapped by antitax demagogues abusing the initiative process, in a nation whose already rickety performance under decades of neoliberal austerity and privatization was then intentionally reduced to rubble by a TV star, and his replacement has pudding brain.

them living far away from their jobs or preferred places to go were not values free choices made in a vacuum, and it is disingenuous to pretend otherwise to make some kind of point about how the status quo is a law of the universe.
drewwwwww··on Trapped in Silicon Valley’s hidden caste system
this is satire, right
drewwwwww··on Facebook loses users for the first time
i mean you can easily write the obverse joke and it has the same overall point - “hey, it’s me, your friend from high school that moved to brooklyn and got a tattoo and thinks he’s better than you. here’s an article about how big yogurt’s assumption you can use a spoon is Ableist” still underscores the fact that facebook is a pipeline to deliver brain poison.
drewwwwww··on Train burglaries in LA
a century of propaganda has led everyone to think that the police spend a lot of effort 'solving' crimes, but a cursory look at clearance statistics will reveal otherwise.

to the extent that police are an effective anti-crime tool, it primarily stems from their physical presence (racially profiled harassment) as a deterrent. outside of homicides & some PR-useful drug enforcement, police departments spend most of their time discouraging people from filing police reports after actual crimes, harassing poor people, and meeting traffic citation quotas

drewwwwww··on Train burglaries in LA
there has been no meaningful defunding of police in any major metropolitan area in california and no directive to not pursue property crime. police have not pursued property crime for decades. you are regurgitating authoritarian propaganda with no evidence.
drewwwwww··on Defund the Police meets the crime wave
i think it's worth pointing out giving the still semi-inflammatory nature of the headline, no serious advocate of defunding the police has ever suggested that simply doing that is the goal. the idea is to shift funding from cops walking around with guns killing people to things that actually prevent crime from happening, and as the piece points out, even in the few places that have actually reduced funding to police, that has not occurred in any significant way.

it's a resource allocation argument, not an 'everything would be better if police instantly winked out of existence' argument.

drewwwwww··on Apple requires account deletion within apps in AppStore starting January 31
this is one case where slack's insane identity model might be beneficial, as membership to any given team is its own "account"
drewwwwww··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
the lack of a strong public health response to the hiv epidemic was certainly NOT based from a place of respecting the rights of those who engaged in minority sexual behaviors, but the complete opposite - the mainstream culture didn’t particularly care if they, or intravenous drug users, lived or died.

to claim otherwise is ludicrous.

drewwwwww··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
the printing press did not induce algorithmically amplified radicalization in order to serve more underwear ads. youtube and facebook are different.
drewwwwww··on A Tunguska size burst destroyed Tall el-Hammam, Bronze Age city in Jordan Valley
the authors list as sponsoring institutions two quite small christian seminaries/universities - i don’t mean to impugn their fieldwork, but only mention it so as we may consider there to be some motivated reasoning in connecting it to events described in the Bible.
drewwwwww··on [dead]
at the end of this article, the common assertion is made that extreme left politicians are also getting elected, however, the the following paragraph, only examples of politicians moving to the right are given.

there are no extreme left wing politicians getting elected. the overton window is not getting stretched, it is moving to the right at an extreme clip. horseshoe theory is a liberal excuse to not do anything about it.

drewwwwww··on Google removes its head of diversity after 2007 blog post surfaces
look to see who is using 5th generation multi role attack fighters and who is using rockets made from the water pipes of the buildings destroyed by the air assault.

which side, forgotten by the world, receives almost four billion dollars a year in military aid from the global imperial hegemon?

it’s not that hard

drewwwwww··on Google removes its head of diversity after 2007 blog post surfaces
i mean, in context, that passage feels more like he is realizing the strength of his internalized homophobia but not justifying it.

but overall the existence of this blog is mystifying.

drewwwwww··on Sixth grader expelled after Zoom provided possibly inaccurate IP address
in the event a white kid was even the suspected perpetrator of this, it's exceptionally unlikely he would be given a 90 day suspension on completely bunk evidence
drewwwwww··on Blizzard has lost almost 29% of its overall active playerbase in three years
you're presenting this a little bit disingenuously. expectations were high that diablo 4 would be announced in 2018, and instead there was the announcement of a partnership to develop a mobile version of diablo. folks were upset and the presenter reacted poorly.

the following year diablo 4 was announced and much was forgiven. the mobile game is still not out (in closed beta rn) and early reports are good.

you can fault blizzard for thinking its core fans at blizzcon would be excited about a mobile game, but if you are a game developer with a popular IP you're making a huge mistake not developing for mobile, as it will be the majority of the global gaming market for the foreseeable future.
