1. If they have no issue with killing people.
2. have killed people
3. will continue to kill people
If all or even most of those victims being people who do not harm others then I'm alright with the murderers being used in experiments or killed themselves.
I don't care about them being found guilty or not, this is hypothetical and there are a number of ways that they could be found guilty when they haven't done it or not guilty when they have. Getting to the point where you can know without a single doubt that they in fact are serial killers is a different matter.
How is that a question? Of course it's justifiable. Valuing the life of someone who only sees humans as play things rather than a collective is silly. Remove them for the greater good.
>If an alien species were using us for their medical experiments, under the same circumstances and conditions, then what would I say?
This can be answered with the same logic. I say this with all seriousness, if you are not a speciesist with a heavy bent towards humanity and our continued survival as a group you should really consider scaling back your empathy for the sake of practicality.
It's an investment by the employee. Coinbase is being cheap and it will come back to bite them. Odds are they don't care for the lifetime of the company since they're so tied to bitcoin's success.
Precisely this. Coinbase has made it and now they want to keep employees from resting and vesting. Stripe did this too. they're just being cheap.
That's close enough for this to be a success if the purpose was to persuade or fool laymen.
He's a scammer. If you had actually watched the video and listened to the explanations by Snowden and looked up the court case that you're saying the scammer was not guilty in but WAS FOUND GUILTY then you would either delete your comments or edit them to say you're wrong.
Many times these things aren't black and white. This is one case where it is. Please don't defend obvious scams. Don't give any gap for them to somehow convince people that they're on the up and up because those victim will be hurt.
Snowden is using his name and appearance to out this guy and I'm very ok with that.
Digital notes are good for a lot of people and a lot of situations but not for my long term very general knowledge based tasks. For specific commands/documentation/syntax/techniques yeah digital notes are nice. For Brain storming, and connecting ideas though? I fully believe paper works best. It's more flexible.
My comment was meant to be hyperbole since I think if you're unable to ignore people online you should really just turn off your internet because it's really easy to ignore people online. I did not mean that you must make your code open source. I don't really care either way about that.
In other words if:
1. someone already has a photo.
2. No one interacts with it besides the current owner
3. Nobody knows or will ever know about it but the current owner
Do you think there is damage being done? Right now I don't think so. I think all of the damage is done when material is produced and spread, and then spread again.
I dislike talking about this subject so I'm alright with disagreeing.
You equate this: "Having a photo or drawing does not hurt anyone" to "child pornography does not hurt anyone".
Do you really think those two sentences mean the same thing? Really? This is the reason the following saying is a thing.
>Give me six lines written by the most honest man in the world, and I will find enough in them to hang him.
Stop being so aggressively bad in finding faults. I mean, just being realistic, Stallman has most likely been stopped and searched multiple times crossing borders. You'd think if he was a pedo he would've been caught by now. Instead he's speaking his mind about censorship and freedom yet people that will never have an iota of the drive this guy had at least once in his life are trying to tear him down.
Do you take some sort of pride in attacking him or something? Regardless of his flaws, what have you done?
Why should I use appsolite?
Removing any punishment isn't vague - just take it out of the hands of those who can currently inflict it:
1. Make it illegal to fire employees for any speech in the public square.
2. Make it so they have to be found guilty in a court of law in order to be fired or shunned for anything sexist or racist.
3. Make it so that any publicly funded institution (even partly) cannot terminate their relationships with individuals because of their speech in the past or the future.
Right now what we're seeing is extrajudicial punishment instigated at the will of anyone with a twitter account and following. The above suggestions reduce the twitter mob's leverage because they shouldn't have any to begin with. Anyone seeking damages should have to go through channels that allow some kind of defense. The court system is supposed to be systemized thoughtfulness so we should rely on it.
The way I see it playing out is that companies will force all employees off of social media with their own names or fewer people will attack companies because they know that the company can't do anything. Both cases are a positive change.
You're being optimistic about vengeful people online. I don't think you're being realistic.
Any behavioral modifications would have to start from castigophobia. Remove the punishment - that's the solution. Everything else is pointless.
It sucks but it doesn't make it any less true.
Have you read them? Every single one of them is freedom bent.
>I'm also rather uncertain how your 'caged bear button' example is relevant here. The only dangerous bear I can see in this context is the overuse of resources. In which case the example seems to be advocating that the best course of action is to expose people to the danger by default, unless people take constant action to keep the danger contained. I'm not sure how this argument is supposed to attack the "keep populations controlled" line of thought.
The dangerous bear in this case is our reproductive capabilities declining. A human that is prevented from coming into existence when it would normally be able to is the same as removing an existing one.
We will solve it, we just need to start and provide incentives for it.
Imagine you're standing in front of a bear cage. Imagine if that bear cage was going to open in the next ten seconds. Imagine there was a button on the wall that you could press to keep that cage closed. Would you press it? Would you want other people to be able to press it if they were your situation?
The example doesn't even have to be that drastic, imagine any good or bad consequence at all. It would be advantageous to have a button that controls whether it happens. Right now we are not in control and humans have always striven to have control.
My sense of self-preservation it not just for me - I feel it for all of humanity, present and future. If you still disagree with me that's fine but if you're going to be logically consistent while espousing the belief that humanity shouldn't exist because we use too many resources the generous thing to do would be to off yourself first. Please don't though, instead help the rest of us figure out a way for more humans to live happily while improving our current world. There is no reason we can't. None. We just haven't figured it out.
