doubletwoyou··on <input type="password" maxlength="20"> prevents me from logging into Vanguard
1. For whatever reason, and a reason will come, typing out those extra characters will be an extra pain.

2. Stupid choices by services (like Vanguard!) making those extra characters a liability.

3. What are you protecting against? Even 16 characters with ~60 combinations is more than enough entropy.

4. It’s just cumbersome. And that, frankly, is the reason why the question is “why should you?”

This is a beautiful post, good work!

Really loved the examples of the math being put into action with those lovely little sliders

Sir Overstreet still seems insistent on having done no wrong on account of fixing user bugs taking priority over literally everything, so clearly there’s a mindset clash that’s gonna prevent a re-merging unless that Torvalds decides to change the same procedure he’s been doing for the past 2 decades or Overstreet knocks his own ego down a peg.

Edit: I think this makes for some good reading: https://lkml.org/lkml/2025/8/9/427

doubletwoyou··on Automattic's board forces CEO Matt Mullenweg into leave of absence
Good riddance! His neurotic public harassment of anyone who is remotely aligned against him (cf. Tumblr moderation and AspirePress) is simply childish and leaves much to be desired.

His behaviour has shown him to be unfit to be a CEO.

Mate, it’s a style thing that depends on which style guide you’re following

AP recommends spaces around them, whereas Chicago doesn’t

besides if we’re critiquing incorrect following of English orthography

—Sentences should be capitalized

—The word “don’t” requires an apostrophe

—End sentences with a period

—That’s incorrect usage of an em-dash at the end there — but what does it matter anyways ;)

doubletwoyou··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
One can only hope the government has some klaxons stashed away.

Side note: isn’t it crazy how Seoul is so close to the border that you can see North Korea on a clear sunny day? And the aforementioned traditional artillery-ableness of it all because of that?

As a person with an eye not especially trained for typography, these two typefaces appear too remarkably similar to be quarreled over. I’m sure those with stronger type setting preferences would disagree, but I find it funny how much humans can debate over things that appear minute and mundane to others (cf. https://xkcd.com/915/)

The funny thing is that the reason for me posting the long bet was looking through previous posts about Cool URLs. It comes full circle!

If we know ‘where it came from’ in the sense that the author couldn’t even bother writing anything themselves, why should other people bother reading this deluge of nonsensical strung together words?

It’s interesting to note what ‘cultural staples and customs’ are actually a recent invention (in the grand scheme of things) or likewise popularized through corporations that advertised so hard that they embedded themselves into the very cultural fabric.

Cf. hamburgers being maybe 100 years old; tomato sauce being only put on pasta in the late 18th century; ‘standard Italian’ not being codified until the unification of Italy in the late 19th century (one reason why Italian-Americans perhaps say capisch instead of capisci? Some southern accents dropping the -i! [really, they’re languages——languages are just dialects with an army]), the food that we call kimchi today only popularly containing peppers starting in the 19th century; and the whole thing with car companies in the United States tearing up tram tracks and lobbying for jaywalking to be considered a crime!

doubletwoyou··on Darktable
One way to get the AppImage to integrate better would be to install appimaged.

Another way to get the up-to-date version on Debian would be to use Nix (install nix, add the stable or unstable channel or whatnot, and make darktable installable)

doubletwoyou··on Ntsc-rs – open-source video emulation of analog TV and VHS artifacts
From what I’m seeing ntsc rs “just” emulates VHS and NTSC artifacts, whereas ntsc crt also does all the fun that has to do with CRT rasterizing

IIRC, it only officially supports CentOS or some other baroque thing, doesn’t support importing or exporting mp4 when free, and also (unrelated to the product itself) Linux hw accel of video is flakey.

False? No US state has an age of consent below 16 except in cases between minors (Romeo & Juliet laws), which this most certainly isn't?
