dordoka··on Questions for TSA after reports of laptop and phone searches on domestic flights
I have been always asked to turn my devices on after a search for explosives (and whatever other substances they look for). They do that "to be sure you don't only carry the structure of the device to hide stuff inside". This happens in european flights.
dordoka··on Opinion: How Apple could have prevented the iPhone-slowdown controversy
Same experience: 6S started shutting down at about 20% after less than a year. I recall searching for this problem and finding that Apple acknowledged that "it's a bug" and that they were working on a fix. The fix came out, but they didn't explain in what way: since then I have an underperforming 6S (50% of average geekbench score) and nobody told me why untill now. Totally agree with your guess of the reason: it was cheaper to do that in software than to replace a lot of batteries, also avoiding the PR nightmare.
dordoka··on Show HN: One year devoted to open source and I've almost made $2 – horrraaaaay
That anecdote is quite interesting. Any blog post where you might have shared the experience? I will surelly learn from it.
dordoka··on Firefox is on a slippery slope
Thanks for your hard work. I'm onboard since that 0.4 Phoenix version. Left you for Chrome for some time... now back to Firefox thanks to Quantum project. You should learn from these kind of mistakes, but I won't leave Firefox, nor stop recommending it instead of Chrome or Edge.
dordoka··on Homebrew 1.4.0
I reckon they have not been removed from homebrew, just relocated.

For example, apache has been moved to homebrew-core. You can see that in the archived repository: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-apache

dordoka··on Things Many People Find Too Obvious to Have Told You Already
Which venues would you recommend for good discussions? Honest question
dordoka··on A Map Showing How Much Time It Takes English-Speakers to Learn Foreign Languages
Yes, poorly explained on my comment (not native english speaker, obviously). I just wanted to point out the region where basque is spoken. Thanks for the info.
dordoka··on A Map Showing How Much Time It Takes English-Speakers to Learn Foreign Languages
I'm basque and I can confirm that basque is quite more complicated than english.

In fact, if you check the map, there's a gray spot on the north of Spain/South of France. That's Euskadi (Basque Country area).

dordoka··on Startup Mistakes: Choice of Datastore
Thanks very much
dordoka··on Overlock – IoT Exception Tracking
Congratulations on your beta launch! Really interesting.

Some questions: FAQ reads that channel from devices to Overlock employs MQTT(S). I guess that means MQTT-SN, using TLS layer for authentication. Which auth methods do you support? Do you support validation of the client and the server? Can the gateway act as such also for Overlock or do devices need to open the MQTT channel directly?

dordoka··on Startup Mistakes: Choice of Datastore
What's the problem with a .io domain? Honest question.
dordoka··on CNN – 1996 Year in Review
I was curious as well. Set up a custom network profile in chrome dev tools (28.8kbps and 150ms latency), no cache: 3.9mins to load!
dordoka··on Debian and GNOME announce plans to migrate communities to GitLab
That is true. But I reckon those big players just said "let's go with the flow and move some stuff to Github, good from the marketing point of view, etc". My point being that is just a trend. If Github is not careful, that trend can change anytime. Debian and GNOME are well known, big open source projects. This helps them a lot and pushes that trend a wee tiny bit in Gitlab's side.
dordoka··on MailChimp vs. Amazon SES – How I Reduced My Monthly Bill
> It sounds like you have a human problem on your hands, not a technical one. I would think about how to get an updated SPF into their DNS. If the boss said "just make it work" then to me that means to call the clients and hand hold them through figuring out who hosts their DNS records and how to open a support ticket or reset their self-service web portal login password, or whatever else the client needs to do to get those records in there.

Exactly my point

dordoka··on MailChimp vs. Amazon SES – How I Reduced My Monthly Bill
That question was asked in the first comment of the article and the author posted a screenshot of stats from his latest campaign if you want to check that out.
dordoka··on MailChimp vs. Amazon SES – How I Reduced My Monthly Bill
I know that you said but I'm afraid a major part of a spam scoring is coming from DNS related checks (SPF, Domain Keys...). I would concentrate on that... offer yourselves to configure that on behalf of your customers, get those DNS things shorted out and your delivery rate will get higher.
dordoka··on Dropbox Professional
Apparently they now have problems too. Getting HTTP 500 errors everywhere...
dordoka··on Dropbox Professional
They quietly removed shared link controls from Plus accounts (previously Pro accounts). Apparently customers already in Plus will keep that granfathered, but new customers won't. That's a feature lost, as if you decide to cancel and comeback, you won't get it back unless you upgrade. They have also negated selective sync to Plus customers, ignoring hundreds of comments on their forum.
dordoka··on Equifax linked customers to my fake phishing version of their site by accident
I see the same thing, but from Spain
dordoka··on How the GDPR Will Disrupt Google and Facebook
Oh sorry. In that case, my understanding is that they are independent.
dordoka··on How the GDPR Will Disrupt Google and Facebook
Again IANAL and not english native speaker, but my understanding is that they are not independent.

Consent is presumed not to be freely given IF it does not allow..., OR IF the performance...

dordoka··on How the GDPR Will Disrupt Google and Facebook
I guess that sentence is referencing article 43. IANAL.

dordoka··on iOS 11 Safari will automatically strip AMP links from shared URLs
Chances are that extension is not yet ported to the WebExtensions API. It should probably be ported eventually, as precisely one of the benefits of WebExtensions is that it makes way more easy to port a Chrome extension to a Firefox one and viceversa. Regarding the shortcuts, I feel you. There's an extension for that as well (Menu Wizard) but it has also not been ported. I guess it's too soon yet.
dordoka··on iOS 11 Safari will automatically strip AMP links from shared URLs
Not to be pedantic, but you should switch Chrome too. Firefox 57 is pretty amazing (currently in nightly).
dordoka··on Show HN: TensorFire
It´s just a demo of an upcoming open source API that allows running deep neural network models on the browser.

Steps (disclaimer: I´m not related to the creators, so this is just what I understand it does)

1.- You upload your image

2.- Select an image to be the origin of the style

3.- Downloading Model: downloads a trained (on style transfering) deep neural net

4.- Colorful artifacts: the model is applied to your image. Probably the artifacts are a visualization of the network weights being transformed to WebGL shaders, or just a simple visualization of the internal hidden steps of the transformation

5.- You get your image with the style applied

dordoka··on Radiohead album hides an app that only runs on an '80s computer
Another older example: Out Run game for ZX Spectrum. You would load it from the A side of the tape and, when finished, you could play the game soundtrack on the B side while gaming. Double win: you get awesome music and you wouldn't need to rewind the tape!
dordoka··on Euro MPs back end-to-end encryption for all citizens
You just need to have different requirements per country, I honestly don´t see any conflict there.
dordoka··on Show HN: Vexlio – Create precise, beautiful diagrams
Me too!!
dordoka··on GitHub was down
You can set up another git server and webhook pull from the main one whenever someone pushes there, so you have a backup replica. Coders just need to setup two remotes for the repos and use the second one when main one is unavailable.
