dojitza1··on Show HN: I removed politics from Twitter with AI
Amazing concept, if I may ask what are your usage costs for say 5 minutes of browsing for a single user on reddit?
dojitza1··on EU countries must implement right to repair laws within two years
I believe this is done partially to dissuade bad actors from gaining easy unverifiable access to hardware and software thus rendering anti theft technology ineffective. If you mandate all repairs to be done using a verifiable (and paid for) repair key which you supply to vetted people, it becomes that much harder to replace the anti theft module as a common thief. Even large scale operations would then be harder to run as they would require a fence of sorts to use as a repairman. Of course that fence would then risk their credentials and so on...
dojitza1··on The Denmark secret: how it became the most trusting country
Slow integration actually being enforced by uncomfortable laws is the only way we get to enjoy diversity and multiculturalism. The friction is otherwise too large. I would personally like an utopia where we all magically get along no matter the culture, race, ethnicity etc. but the real world is a different pair of shoes.
dojitza1··on 'Vampire drone' can leech electricity from power lines to live forever
Good. Phase 2 prep of paperclip production continues as planned.
dojitza1··on The best way to have complex discussions?
Tiny UI feedback, I could not figure out how to go back easily. It took me 1 minute to figure out it was the conclude discussion button on top
dojitza1··on London Drugs closes stores until further notice due to cyberattack
Reading between the lines it seems like it's some kind of ransomware.
dojitza1··on Why are most sofas so bad?
Second hand sofa market is surprisingly good in all cities ai lived in (Europe) You can get great stuff for less than 100eur. Good luck figuring out there transport and cleaning though.
dojitza1··on Pixar to undergo 20% layoffs in 2024
I know it's not practical because of select few bad apples, but giving a year's notice to the affected people, letting them finish up the work and mentally prepare, and all the while coaching them through the process of finding a new job seems like a humane thing to do.
dojitza1··on Paul Biggar removed from CircleCI board for pro-Palestine blog post
I always thought about the public discourse regarding wars in general

Let's say the majority of the population is simply 'anti war' and focus on these people.

Is it not sufficient to support this message?

Does not with with us = against us actually apply to wars (or maybe this particular war)

Wonder what your thoughts on this are.

dojitza1··on Ask HN: How is your early retirement working out?
I don't see a huge difference between a hobby and fulfilling and non stressful work that you take up voluntarily.
dojitza1··on Writing a GPT-4 script to check Wikipedia for the first unused acronym
An interesting solution to the blind spot error (taken directly from Jeremy Howard's amazing guide to language models - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkrNMKz9pWU) is to erase the chat history and try again. Once GPT has made an error (or as the author of this article says, the early layers have irreversibly pruned some important data), it will very often start to be even more wrong.
dojitza1··on Inclusive community activists are harming FOSS
I believe that people that advocate banning people with extreme and/or dangerous viewpoints from public forums and communities also don't want child rapists and murderers to be rehabilitated.

In my experience this is a relatively strong percentage pf people, which affects everyone, irrespective of the viewpoint axis.

In this case, we have an example of a sjw/progressive viewpoint person which does not believe in 'those' people having any food left in them.

dojitza1··on Ask HN: Location based pay is killing my motivation, how do others handle it?
I think about it in terms of how much money I'd have left after all my expenses are covered with my current lifestyle. This includes Healthcare, education and travel opportunities. Once you account for this, the differences are easier to stomach, if still unfair.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Any way to ban GPT-4 and others from harvesting my content and data?
Even if such a law were to exist, to be able to enforce it you'd need to abandon the idea of free internet.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Any way to ban GPT-4 and others from harvesting my content and data?
If we keep the internet free and anonymous, there is no way to stop people from reading your public data and using it however they want to.

That being said, put it in the ToS and pray for the best.

dojitza1··on Show HN: The Coinbase FOMO Calculator
The difference between gambling and crypto is in the timelines. Gambling has a high frequency where crypto is quite a bit lower. This allows some lucky people to 'exit the casino' by the virtue of being lucky enough to have won the bet, and being pressured somehow to cash out and not continue gambling. For some, it is a birth of a child, perhaps a purchase decision etc. Low frequency allows for these events to take place, betting on horses does not.
dojitza1··on San Francisco cops pull over a Cruise driverless car for no lights on
Remote override for authorities to stop the car, instruct it to pull over etc. Alternatively, passengers always having access to a pull over when safe button.
dojitza1··on Why Quantum Mechanics?
I'd go as far as to offer an explanation like this: The universe/multiverse is infinite in every (by our brains) comprehensible and incomprehensible form. Both on a macro and a micro level. Our existence is finite in nature, both in space dimension (objects have edges) and time (they change form). It is understandable we have trouble interpreting some of the rules of our universe that we are unable to comprehend. I say quantum mechanics (and perhaps natural science in general) are our attempt to make sense of something fundamentally not comprehensible.
dojitza1··on Switching to a four-day workweek (2021)
I agree. Async communication is hard. Humans are not equipped for this. We are limited in our focus and prioritization ability. It is the same reason calling someone on the phone gets you results and information 10x faster.
dojitza1··on Live demo of new OpenAI code writing technology tomorrow
Hope it isn't just a pr stunt and they adress the criticism that has accrued since the copilot beta launch.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
Thank you for the followup.

Just to clarify, you use your personal blog domain to stage websites for customers? That is an interesting use case. It does project your brand, since you are on your own infrastrucuture (at least visually, you still probably use a hosting provider) instead of github/heraku/etc

dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
I see that you are a talking about free blogging platforms. I was more interested in the free hosting + domain solutions with your own web page design.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
So you say being a paying customer gives a higher guarantee that you won't be locked out of your domain and be forced to switch to a new one, potentially losing a good chunk of your readership. It makes sense, and thank you for your answer.

As for the signaling, I don't view it as something undesirable. It is an innate human need and we rely on it heavily. I was just wondering what people found useful in addition to it.

dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
Thank you for your answer.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
So you do say it's mainly about signaling your independence and profficiency?
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
Limited traffic / static pages only / free advertising for other products that bring in revenue. Do you think there are more insidious 'catches'? I am struggling to come up with one.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why do you use paid domains for personal blogs?
I am aware of this. I am interested to know what value people find in owning a domain.
dojitza1··on Ask HN: What to focus on career-wise as an inexperienced professional
Thank you for your comment.

As for the professional remark - As far as I know, formally, a professional (as opposed to an amateur) is a person that is compensated for their work.

dojitza1··on Ask HN: Why don't apps allow you to boot hackers who got access to your account?
Once someone gains access, it is very hard to discern (without a human manually looking into it) who the legitimate customer is. This is in the domain of customer service and can not be done automatically.
dojitza1··on “Why We Sleep” Is Riddled with Scientific and Factual Errors
You are correct in that there are fundamental problems with a statement as simple as the one I made. Don't take it at face value though. If you ignore your surroundings and formulate an opinion that is obviously different, I'd argue your ability to recongnise scientific consensus is severely lacking - Distilling it into something like "Don't trust anyone other than the scientific consensus" might be better.
