dnemmers··on Thieves steal Nvidia-labeled trailers – yields 20 tons of sand
Maybe I am extremely jaded in this day and age, but it struck me that the company may have faked the 'robbery' in order to gain attention to their company?
dnemmers··on U.S. House Passes Bill to Require Am Radio in New Cars
Using the government to force consumers to pay for a feature that I'm sure less than 1% use....seems wrong to me.
dnemmers··on US Military had close call after using AI for hallucinated intelligence report
And how many posts recently asked how AI was dangerous?
dnemmers··on US judge denies OpenAI bid to review X Corp's settlement with Apple
I'm surprised they just don't wait until someone uses AI to 'understand' the settlement, and the company can just slurp it from there.
dnemmers··on Revoy Dolly Turns Diesel Semi-Trucks into Hybrid EVs
Here's the big challenge:

"The 10-tonne dolly also eats into payload capacity—a non-starter for weight-sensitive loads."

Losing 20k lbs of trailer capacity completely changes the ROI. Only volume limited shipments would really benefit.

Additionally, these dollys have to be pre-positioned, and wait fully charged along the route, to enable the 5-min swap advertised.

Dead in the water.

dnemmers··on Unique, mathematical 60-sided dice go on display
It's a set of 300 numbers split across 5 d60s.
dnemmers··on Houthis used Anthropic to develop guided weapons
More evidence that AI can be quite useful!
dnemmers··on Claude AI used for missile, influence projects in UAE, Iran, Yemen: Anthropic
Whoops! Sorry about all of that aiding and abetting.
dnemmers··on How bicycle coaster brakes work (2018)
"The coaster brake also can be prone to locking up the wheels and causing the tire to skid. For kids this is an advantage, since they enjoy putting bikes into a sideways skid. This seemingly is a one of the requisite skills for youthful riders, especially but not exclusively boys."

Very accurate.

dnemmers··on Don't paste the AI, please
Having AI do the work for you doesn't increase your writing skills, in fact, the opposite!

Instead of seeing the errors and thinking about what changes the draft needs ('improving' your writing skills'), you're letting someone else tell you what changes to make.

Because you aren't internalizing the corrections, guess what happens next time: your writing gets worse, AI comes to help...rinse and repeat.

dnemmers··on Don't paste the AI, please
Fixing spelling, capitalization, and punctuation...that's just a spell checker, no fancy LLM needed.
dnemmers··on In the Shadow of the (Berlin) Wall
"While he managed to escape to West Germany and gain his freedom, he ended up losing touch with his mother, who, being a dedicated communist, rejected him as a traitor to East Germany and denounced his escape."

Ouch.

dnemmers··on Chinese bullet train breaks acceleration record by going from 0-800kmph in 5 sec
An incredible accomplishment, for sure; but I worry its relevance, as the passengers will surely not be able to handle that rate of acceleration.
dnemmers··on 92 percent of US adults are not going to the doctor – too expensive
What do you see as the biggest complaint against the IMLCC?

Are Democrat states working against the healthcare needs of their constituents?

dnemmers··on Tom Stanton's supersonic trebuchet breaks sound barrier with gravity alone
Would love to see some photos in action, but 2007..defense contractor...makes me think photos may have been frowned upon.
dnemmers··on How Golden Is Silence, Actually?
Even though the restaurant closes at 11, doesn't meant there isn't plenty of cleaning and 'closing' still left to do by the staff, often into the 'wee' hours.
dnemmers··on US Military asks troops for 'creative and unconventional' ideas to punish Iran
You say 'The Real Plan' like there was any amount of planning done in the first place. We've now found ourselves on top of a bucking bronco, with every 'exit' looking worse than previous status quo.
dnemmers··on Saying 'Google It' Makes You Sound Old
The term 'google' does a good job of saying 'internet search' with far fewer letters, and with much more uniqueness. That alone helped in the battle with 'Dog Pile' and Alta Vista.
dnemmers··on Galaxy Research Coldcard hack update: 1,158.81 BTC stolen from 2,673 addresses
Easiest move would be donate to political entity, it'll buy you plenty of jail cover.
dnemmers··on Ask HN: When a post of yours does well, do you know why?
Is this a fact finding journey to help your AI 'social media' startup?
dnemmers··on Everything that happens in a US airport is under duress
I believe this is correct, but at the airport you're really faced with the reality of the situation. Everywhere else, the same mechanisms exist 'under the sheets', but there's a thin veneer of society pasted over the machine.
dnemmers··on There's never been a better time to commit financial fraud
The real question is, will you : (a)get your pardon, (b) run out the statute of limitations, or (c) buy off a politician with part of the proceeds?
dnemmers··on A Trampoline
Somehow, my wife's co-workers managed to sneak a full size trampoline (with netting) into their Rental's living room; somehow the landlord is fine with the arrangement, having seen it in person.
dnemmers··on A Trampoline
I think the previous comment was more about second hand, and free options compare to running out to buy them new from a store; not if the parent should/shouldn't get them anything.
dnemmers··on A Terrarium iPhone Case That Houses Actual Growing Plants and Moss
One thing I didn't note from the article, was how much sunlight is required to keep things going.
dnemmers··on DEF CON bans Meta-style 'pervert glasses'
I'm guessing if 'surveillance camera' meant people they don't know, obviously recording their every motion from close by...they may have a different response.

It almost seems like personal Paparazzi.

dnemmers··on If You're over 40, You're Ready to Use A.I
If it's only safe for people over 40, it's probably better to just say it isn't safe for anyone.
dnemmers··on Skateboarding Forum on Wood Quality
Is this a situation where all the world's skateboards are made by a handful of companies, with labels slapped on?
dnemmers··on Jimothy the raccoon has a rare spinal condition. Here's what that means
If you haven't seen it yet, 'How to Drive In Ballard' is a great watch from Almost Live:

dnemmers··on Trump announces 2028 presidential bid
I'm not saying I agree with the sentiment, or think during the current discourse it isn't a very touchy subject to try and pull humor out of...but if there's any event to take the President's words at the highest chance of being a 'joke', this is that event.
