It’s funny, the impact this had internally. It’s like we all believed in what we were doing even more when we felt that magic. I hadn’t watched this again since it happened, still gave me chills.
Brad Feld, who is one of the co-authors, led our series A and B at Mattermark and I learned how to run my board with his support. This book is a practical guide that demystifies how board are run, and very helpful to any founder.
CTO and cofounder of Firstparty here, just wanted to mention our trial comes with 1,000,000 events free so if anyone wants to kick the tires it should be free for a long time for projects that don’t do a ton of web traffic, and we would love your feedback.
I know HN has a predominately male audience, so it might be useful for readers to know that Autism spectrum behaviors have been shown through research to present pretty differently in women. This list didn’t touch much on romantic and sexual aspects of interpersonal dynamics. Learning about this has helped me understand myself better and support other women on the spectrum more graciously https://www.aane.org/women-asperger-profiles/
It has made me curious about my own mother, and also the developmental journey kids of my friends on the spectrum. I hope this will add to the conversation.
Wonder how many people did not skip to the end and then skim back
Our product does not include the tracking that is used on the marketing site.
My guess is that the departures will continue as unemployment rates grown and that when federal and state payments run out we will see a further decline.
I think companies will soon have to justify why they can afford to have an office with remote as the better (and cheaper option). Other than headcount, rent is usually the largest line item for a startup
In the meantime, one way to see more is to checkout our getting started guide: https://meltano.com/docs/quickstart.html and also our YouTube channel which has weekly "Demo Day" videos sharing our progress: https://www.youtube.com/meltano
Really appreciate you taking a look at what we're up to!
Our vision is to glue the steps from ETL to dashboard together in an end-to-end solution. We pick whatever we consider best in class and integrate it. So far, we've got Singer, DBT, Jupyter Notebooks and Apache Airflow and we're using VueJS for both the product UI and our website.
We're also working on a blog post exploration what other acquisition might happen in this space. We're adding suggestions to the spreadsheet as we hear them on Twitter, HN, etc https://meltano.com/blog/2019/06/10/first-looker-and-tableau...
It’s still very TBD while we get the product to a place where those opportunities start be more emergent. We definitely expect it to be an open core model though, similar to GitLab.
By remaining self-hosted we avoid the big expense (and risk) of storing users data, and they can pick whatever cloud they want. Our team is 5 core members working at GitLab, and we have about a dozen contributors. So it’s kind of a startup within a late stage “startup” (unicorn).
With all that’s happening we’re definitely looking to pick up the pace, and would love to work with more contributors on the free open source alternative at Meltano (www.meltano.com)
Edit: just wrote a quick post with some open questions I'd like to explore around this deal https://meltano.com/blog/2019/06/10/salesforce-is-acquiring-...
We have launched a new open source project to work on the spec and collaborators are welcome
Would love to collaborate, do you want to join our Zoom call https://gitlab.zoom.us/j/542273985? (Anyone else who wants to join in is welcome, the link is open)
If you have a distaste for lawyers, as a lot of people do in our culture, and try to put off deeply engaging and instead do it yourself you are going to get burned. It is better to pay someone their hefty fees and then ask TONS of questions, so that you will truly learn from everything you have them do. This is the unsexy part of running a startup that I wish I could tell every founder. You just have to embrace it, might as well get good at it.
